Very comfortable however the metal clip reinforcing the top two lace eye holes broke over time causing the lace to get stuck. This happened on the top outside hole on both shoes. Maybe I'll try leaving the top hole unlaced.

OK, I order this because it was made in the US. While the size is the correct, the shoe is uncomfortable after wearing for any amount of time, like over 3-4 hours. I have a high arch and tried wearing it as it came, but did not find the support I needed. I removed the insole and replaced with a custom sole with arch support. While it made the fit better, still after several hours I needed to change shoes. Sadly I have purchases New Balance for years, but this shoe is not working out as well and after several months, it is my least favorite to wear.

The plastic eyelets at the top of the laces have all cracked. The tongue rides down despite running the laces through loop on the tongue. I have had 990 series before and was happy up to now. The V5 is poorly designed. It is not worth the premium price.

An investment grade runner that has superior ankle stabilization. A bit narrow towards the toe. Great for road runners. But I much look forward to putting on my 1400s instead.

since this is the only running shoe available in your lineup I wear them all the time. they squeak terribly with my orthotics. the overall quality has declined from 10 years ago and keeps going down. making an inferior design in the u.s.a. does nothing to inspire loyalty or increase business

I read a lot of great reviews about this shoe. I was disappointed when I wore them for the first time because they just did not feel right. I thought it might need a break in, but so far they are just not comfortable on my feet. There seems to be a high spot in the construction under the arch of my left foot that I am guessing my be a defect? I tried to message them to ask about it but their reply was very slow (several days) and they did not really answer my question. The Reebok shoes that they replaced were much more comfortable for me.

I have worn 990 series for more than 25 years. The V5 is the first to disappoint . The heel is not properly cushioned and the toe is WRONG. I got blisters. This is a real letdown from NB

They are comfortable, but not enough arch support. The styling and arch support of similar SAS shoes are far superior, even if they are a little bit heavier.
I'd also recommend:

For a walking shoe it is to heavy , I thought it would be lighter

I bought these shoes as a gift for my husband. I can't even speak on how comfortable they are because they made my husband's feet look really weird. Wish I could have gotten past how they looked to see if they were fabulous, but they looked so goofy we had to return them.

Ridiculous to plaster your Name and Made in the USA on the visible tongue Not very attractive...I did not think I was buying a shoe and have advertising all over it...the NB is fine and you make a good shoe but stop the free advertising

I use for walking. It simply does not feel as comfortable as another brand that I wear. Your advertisement is what sold me on ordering these. Had I gone to a store and tried them on, I would not have purchased them.

I appreciate that these shoes are made in the USA. Good fit and seem to be made well.

I use New Balance inner sole inserts, with the originals removed. But that should not cause 'the issue'. When you're walking through a quiet lobby and the only sound you hear is sound of your left shoe, "cweak, cweak, cweak, ... " that's pretty disconcerting and, frankly, makes you feel rather CONSPICUOUS. The footwear more impervious to this annoyance is the dark gray MW877G Walking. But I'm looking for good higher limb protection from real activity impact. I'm not sure the MW877G is fully up to that.

I have been buy 990 v4 for years now. Three pairs a year. 8.5 4e. The 990V5 are now two wide. The toe box is wider. I took them back and got 8.5 2E... the heal lifts and is not as nice.

Was well made but I was hoping for an upper mesh that was breathable, it wasn't, and that's what I needed for work. I would consider it in the future for personal use.

I like this shoe. It's very stylish, and grey fits with everything in my wardrobe. The quality of the shoe CANNOT be beaten, I will stand by that. The materials are very premium, and I love the attention that New Balance has put in regarding suede placement, shoe laces, etc. I will say I wanted to like this shoe more, but I have some gripes; the mesh it's purely aesthetic. From my experience, it does not make the shoe more breathable, as there is a somewhat thick inner liner that surrounds the whole inside if the shoe regardless of mesh/suede placement. That being said, it is a warm shoe; not a lot of breathability. Second, it is a little heavy and can be stiff as well. If you can look beyond those two, then you will love this shoe. I know I do. Also one little not on the fit; all NB MiUSA models fit me a half size large; I am a 13 in the 1080v10 but a 12.5 in the 990v5.

The 990v5 I ordered in 6E width but it seemed more narrow than older New Balance 6E width shoes and definitely narrower than the 6E Dunhams, so I returned the 990s. Also the heel is quite elevated-- some will like that and others not. Otherwise, it was quite comfortable shoe and well cushioned, especially in the forefoot/ball of the foot.

They are ok at best. Only offer a couple colors in all sizes and width. The only place i seem to be able to get shoes this wide or i would leave New Balance in a minute. way too pricey for the quality.

worn NB 990 for 10 plus years . I wear a 10.5W. Have a stability issue that requires this shoe all the time. I do not run, play tennis or go to the gym. BUT I DO WORK. I need an all black shoe which NB no longer makes in the woman's 990 (only the men's version (gender bias??).I don't wear sweats to work so why do I want a shoe with silver details or a big white NB on the side. I was told that the black men's equivalent size was 9.5 regular width. The length is fine but the width is too narrow across the ball of the foot. The difference is quite apparent visually.

The tag wore off my old pair so I didn't know what size. I remembered they were wide-wide so ordered the 2E figuring that was double wide. But when they arrived I couldn't even get my foot in. Back they went with a 4E order. Why not change your sizes to W and WW? No confusion then. The E's just confuse the issue.

Bought these for my son. His shoe size for Nike is 8 and ordered these in size 8 (based on recommended fit by Zappos) and they were too big for him. Will return these and get 7.5 instead.
