ZERO VENTILATION. Fits and looks good. BUT that mesh at the top is woven with a polyester material behind it and believe me you cant force air through it, much less vent out heat or let ANY fresh air in. Definitely pass unless your looking for an UN-ventilated winter hat. I took it out on a beautiful day 72 degrees wind blowing and was sweltering in it. I tested the mesh for airflow and there is nothing going through that material it is purely for looks.

Love this hat. I lost my Outdoor Research full brim hat and was on a quest for a new one for a few months. The Compass is exactly what I was looking for. I got the cream color which is very cool in direct sun. The dark under-brim means no glare. The convertible vents work nicely to allow a breeze in. My head is shaved and I can definitely feel the ventilation when they're up.The sun protection is very good - I was out from 10-2 in southern California sun with no sunblock on my neck or face and was not burned at all I'm an avid paddler so love that it floats. I was playing in the surf and got knocked over by a wave and lost my hat. I went into shore, climbed on some rocks, found it floating in the rip current and was able to retrieve it! nice. My only complaint whatsoever is that the chin strap is exactly over your ears which is a horrible place for the strap. This flaw is common to many brands so its not the end of the world, but a hat maker should know by now to put the strap forward or back of center, not right over your ears! That said, I will happily buy another when I loose or wear this one out. Highly recommended.

I have the Charter hat in Florida and liked it so much I purchased one for here in New Hampshire. I believed I was ordering on line the same hat color but the "Chaparral" color is much darker than the "Sand" color that I have in Florida. I think the color chart on the web site is misleading. However, I decided to keep the "Chaparral" since I like the hat so much!

I bought this hat for myself and liked it so much I showed it to the company I worked for and they adopted it as part of their uniform for outside workers. Nice design, not hot to wear and travels well if you have to pack it. I have several now and love them

Great hat, stays put even in strong winds without tying under the chin due to it being adjustable sizing. I have told at least 5 women about my hats, have both colors of the Havana hats as well. They immediately hit their phones and verify they have the right site and hat. Love it!

Bought this hat for first time trip to Burning Man. I had been warned about all day, no shade sun on the Playa. Hat offered great protection, was cool and provided secure place to comfortably carry dust goggles when not worn. It is now my favorite hat.

Love this hat! Helps to keep me cool, comfortable, and protects my fair skin (and scalp) from UV rays and burns. And it looks good, too!

I just got my Charter Hat yesteday and I absolutly LOVE it . I am about average size and I found it to fit perfectly, I bought a mediume. I wore it outside in the sun about 5 hours and never did my head sweat like it does in other hats. The venting is great. I had cancer on top of my head and have to wear good hats. This will be my favorite one that I will wear daily and not worry about the sun rays. Will buy another one of these in the future.

I love the Charter hat. I've been using it for over 3 years, and it still maintains it's shape (with a few more wrinkles). Great for a hiker or golfer who wants to protect his skin from the sun.

Nice hat. I also have a similar style Tilley and I think I like this a little better. I like the stiffer brim as it holds its shape better, and the size adjustment feature. Also like the sunglasses holder.

After losing a Tilley I searched high and low for a year until I discovered this most effective and comfortable lid. Vents let plenty of oxygen through. When I lose this one, I'll invest in another. Bravo!

My Charter hat has saved my follicly challenged globe many times in the sun. The venting is also a plus with an engine that runs hot. Add one to your hat collection and it will become your go-to head covering.

Best sun hat I have ever tried in ages. Not over priced for its features materials and fit. love the cream color and grayish bottom color for glare. The only other type hat that worked good for me was a straw hat that didn't hold up to the test of time. I love the brim style they use here. Looks great and functions very good. UPF 50+ rating is excellent. You will like this hats features fit materials and finish.

Absolutely the best hat I have owned for golf and outside work. Looks great and I get compliments on it's styling continuously at the course. Really wish they could make these in white also.

I have been able to find the hat to fit my head,until now the large charter hats fits the bill, or Billy in my case. Great for the Arizona sun where I live, it offers great shade without melting your head as do baseball hats. Recommend it to everyone, stylish, priced well and durable.

The charter hat is the best hat I have ever owned. Great hat for golf and very stylish. I have the cream color and would love for the company to make this hat in a white also.

I bought this hat for my husband and he absolutely loves it. We live in Tanzania and he works in villages so is in the sun constantly. The hat is fantastic and cleans up easily. Unfortunately he lost it so we're buying a new one. He loved it so much we bought one for my dad and father-in-law and they also love their charter hats.

I'm a girl with a big head, I measured it at 24.5".The size chart shows my head circumference at the top of the size range. I took a chance on the Large size compass hat and I'm glad I did! It fits me loosely and with the adjuster I can tighten it if needed. I'm so glad to have a sun hat that doesn't squeeze my head or ride up on my huge noggin.

The compass hat is such a nice hat!! I bought 2 one for me size medium and one for my husband size large, fit is perfect, can be adjusted, great cover, comfortable, and will pack well. We're going to Costa Rica and that's why I bought them, but they are so great, we'll be wearing them to mow, garden, hike, everything outdoors. Not sure why the two other reviewers only checked off one star?? They gave the hat a great review, but didn't check off the stars correctly. Don't hesitate on this hat, Very nice quality!

I stumbled across this hat a little over three years ago looking for a good fishing/kayaking hat at a local outdoor shop. The flip up vents looked interesting so I bought one. There are few items I've purchased in my life where I truly felt the product provided more than I expected. I love this hat! I keep it in my truck for anytime I may need one and I've worn it countless hours. It has always kept me cool no matter how hot it got here in FL. Thank you!

Best sun hat I have had. The side fabric has a lining, the top has 2 layers of fabric and the vents have a second mesh backing. The brim is stiff enough to stay in place and not flop in the wind. Bought the first hat for golfing in the Texas sun - liked it so much bought a second for fishing. The search is finally over for the perfect sun hat. Just wish my golf game was this good.

I bought this hat for a month-long trip to Indonesia. It is very well made and held up very well. It kept the sun off my face and back of the neck, and it is very comfortable to wear and very light in weight, which is a nice feature in the intense heat of the tropics. It packs flat in my suitcase, so it was very easy to travel with. I put it in the washer after my trip, on delicate cycle, and it cleaned up well. Very happy with this purchase, well worth the price.

I was introduced to your brochure in the waiting room of a Dermatologist. I had skin cancer on my ear and was waiting for surgery. The pictures and descriptions on your brochure made me investigate your company and products further. After visiting your website I was convinced your hats were worth trying. I decided to order by phone because how a company treats their customers on the phone can tell how much that company appreciates it customers. I was again impressed! The person you had taking orders was very knowledgable about your hats and helped me immensely through the order process. I ordered your Charter Hat and couldn't wait until it was delivered (which by the way was very quick). The Charter Hat was everything it was described to be. Sizing was great. I like its light weight and the way it can be shaped. Another great feature is the way it packs flat for traveling. My primary use for this hat will be for golf but I am sure I will find many other uses. Thank you so much for making such a great hat.

This is my favorite hat from Sunday Afternoons. Its got a really nice shape that seems to be built into the hat, so the crown is never floppy and always looks great. I also like the brim because it is wide and has good sun protection, but not so wide that it looks dorky. Overall its just a great hat for looking good and staying out of the sun. Highly Recommended. PS: I noticed that the brim looks better if I give it front to back right before I put it on. Also, this hat seems to run kind big so you might want to order a size down if you are on the border.

Adjusts easily. Looks fantastic. Inside surprise pocket is bonus. Great find.
