Older versions were great, not so much with the redesign.

The VG4's were the first pair of Merrell's that I have tried. The feel in those were good however the toe box was a little small for what my toe's would naturally spread to. This is way too small. It's actually painful. I bought these because other minimalist shoes tend to be narrow like New Balance or Inov-8s. This is a common complaint that I have heard many times that they are ignoring. Very strange. You would think a minimalist shoe would err on the side of a large toe box. I'll give them props for increasing the durability but I can't wear them.

Other things to note are that there is no longer a tongue and the laces are now rounded instead of flat. The lack of tongue doesn't bother me but I prefer the flat laces of the VG4 as they are less bulky when double knotting.
