A good garment for spring and early fall, or cool evenings, wearing around, but it simply doesn't breathe. So I don't wear this when doing any activity where my body temperature increases even just a little bit.

This is to me is a insulated windbreaker, perfect to bring with you on summer nights or use for hiking og commuting spring and fall if you are worm like me.
Very packable and easy to bring with you. Protects well from wind if it comes from the front or back. Very breathable with the stretcy side panels.
I would not call it small in size, but quite tight in the fit. I would be careful to choose this if I wanted to hide my waist. The side panel are not durable, they are starting to pill after not too many uses.
All in all a very comfortable jacket to wear, but not durable enough for the price

This jacket in my mind tried to achieve too much but ended up falling short while being too complicated. I was excited to see an SL version of the atom as the LT is an exceptional jacket. I was hoping for a paired down version of the LT that uses the same design but with a lighter insulation. The uninsulated hood is a missing element that to me is inefficient. I also find the mesh in the sleeves to be unnecessary. The result of these two design elements is not much more than wearing an insulated vest with a piece similar to the Squamish hoody, though you are locked into wearing this combination. I find the uninsulated hood to be uncomfortable while wearing it and find myself wishing there was insulation when I put it on. This would add comfort as well as additional warmth.
Overall I feel the extra design features here are frivolous and result in a jacket that I imagine is more expensive to construct. My suggestion, and hope, is for Arc'teryx to design a jacket that uses 40 gram coreloft that is wrapped in a Tyono shell throughout.
I am 6'2" 170lbs and a large fits well. A medium would definitely be too tight. I feel this fits small overall.

I bought these softshells for a team of us who run outdoor sports at a school. We are all pretty athletic but these fit no one very well
They are pretty long which is fine, but the bottom of the jacket is so tight it doesnt get round your bum so it just hitches up. Therefore lots of us had to size up to find one that went round the bottom properly. But it's then really baggy around the tummy. If you put anything in the pockets it bulges and looks very unflattering. Generally everyone's jacket just looks like they have massive tummies.
This isnt just me, but everyone who tried them.

This jacket is great for the purpose I bought it for. It was intended to be a (soft)shell to wear during spring, summer, and fall. I typically run hot, and wanted something that I would not over heat in when wearing a tshirt etc.
This did the job! It is quite tight fitting, so it was hard to layer beneath (atom sl etc.), but I did not buy it with that intention- so I cant be disappointed with that.
For a great soft shell, I dont think you can go wrong with this jacket. Like I said, for me it fits a bit tight but it has served me well!

First time I used it for skiing and it was perfect and to my expectations.
But recently I was in Lisbon. When it started raining I got wet - first in the most exposed areas that is arms and a head. That was a little bit disappointing.I know it is not waterproof, but I hoped it would stay dry a little bit longer (till I get to the cafe).

This is a wonderful jacket that performs as advertised. The problem for me is the cuffs. They come down loosely over your hands. I find myself constantly adjusting them. If the jacket had the same cuffs as the rest of the Atom line, or even the Velcro cuffs of the Squamish it would be perfect. I am going to have to return.

Briefly, I wanted an uninsulated soft-shell that I could also layer under for rock/ice climbing and hiking. My measurements: 5'9", 170 lbs, 31 inch waist, 30 inch pant inseam, 32/33 arms, 41 inch chest, and broad shoulders. I have a wrestler/boulderers build and am in pretty darn good shape these days. I purchased a size large after trying on the Gamma MX hoody at Arc'teryx Boston (they didn't have the LT in stock). The Large MX fit well - a little too baggy without layers, but perfect mobility layered over a Nuclei FL or Proton LT/AR. The Large Gamma LT Hoody was gigantic and comically long on me (again, I'm not very tall). The rear back hem came down to the middle my hamstrings and I could probably layer a belay parka under the Large. I considered ordering the medium, but learned that the rear back hem is only ~1 in shorter - still way too long. Lastly, the elastic wrist cuffs, which I love on my other Arc'teryx gear, were much too large and slide down to just below my knuckles.
The material quality was fantastic though. I own other of Arc'teryx kit and this is the first piece wherein the fit wasn't perfect - in fact, it was kind of terrible. The sleeve cuffs and length stopped me from ordering the medium. I was very surprised that, considering both are Athletic Fit, the Gamma MX Large fit well and the Gamma LT fit very very poorly.
I would recommend based on quality, but not on fit. YMMV.
I purchased an Alpha Comp Hoody in large and medium instead, and I'll report on that.

Wonderful, light, impeccably constructed garment. After purchase and wearing it for a couple of days, I found myself holding this in my hands and inspecting the stitching and construction. This is where you can determine quality. What I found was great detail and care in the stitching, cutting and overall construction. In itself, this justifies pricing before materials are even factored in. I'm 5'11 185lbs and size L fits like a glove. Just 2 pockets on this jacket but that's fine. Feather light weight but surprisingly warm on the cool April days I have worn it this far. The Serene Color pops and it's really nice. Overall, a fantastic jacket.

I am a medium in some Arcteryx jackets, but this one in an M was tight around my hips. I tried the large, which fit around the hips (was even a little big) but was too big in the chest and especially the shoulders and upper back. The big shoulders (and excess fabric in the back) was especially odd, as I have broad shoulders (and I'm tall). In my experience (and I've seen others to the same effect), the gulf between women's M and L is too big, and they don't fit hourglass figures well. It's so frustrating because the bottom can be cinched, so it makes more sense to make it a little bigger relative to the other parts of the jacket. The inconsistent sizing between items is also frustrating, as I end up having to order multiple sizes.

Bought this in the fall. The jacket overall is amazing but really disappointed with the zippers.
I find when I hike, ski, run in it, the zipper slides down until it's totally open. Was expecting better quality for the price.

Great jacket except the front and back length is like absurdly long, it's like 2.5 inches longer than my Atom LT. Super frustrating.

Was very excited to receive this jacket and I really did like it! Wore it on a 1.5 hour hike 4 days after I received it and came home to find the back piled and frayed. I was wearing a light water backpack with all the straps clipped in so minimal friction occurred but this product did not hold up. I am very disappointed, I really wanted to like this hoody. Arc teryx products should be designed to handle much more than a casual 1.5 hour hike.

I was surprised when I received this Atom SL by the fabric quality. Very different feel from the Atom AR and Atom LT. I understand it is light weight but the fabric feels very inexpensive, noisy and will tear easily. The drape is stiff and for this reason, even though it's SL, the quality is lacking for the price and so I will need to return it. I don't feel it is Arcteryx's level of quality I expects. I will purchase another Atom AR which I love. It is light in insulation and the feel of the fabric seems of better quality.

The sleeves on this jacket (and others like the superlight version) are way too long and wide at the cuff with no way to adjust them. There is no elastic that cuffs them at the wrist or small tabs to make them tighter, so the sleeves hang down and cover my hands, which makes this really annoying to wear and try to do any task. I am average height and I've never had this problem except with Arcteryx jackets (multiple jackets have this issue). I wish they had more elastic cuffs (not just a tiny useless strip) or better yet, a way to adjust the cuffs - the lack of functionality is disappointing. These jackets would be so amazing/practical/useful if the cuffs were fixed.

I was really disappointed by this after reading so many glowing reviews. The fact there is NO lining whatsoever inside makes the jacket scratchy and uncomfortable, with rough seams poking at you. Also, the sleeves are strangely long (I have normal sized arms and rarely have this problem) and there is zero way to adjust them. They just kind of end with no way to tighten the cuffs or even elastic on them. The only option would be to fold them over, which looks ridiculous. I am really disappointed in this and am returning it.

Even after 6 years, the Atom LT is my favorite jacket. I wear it more than any other insulated jacket in my closet. So I decided that I needed the Atom SL for warmer conditions. I love everything about the SL, but the cuffs on the sleeves, or actually the lack thereof, is a total deal killer. Why does this not have the stretchy cuffs like the Atom LT. The sleeves on the SL are so big that they go completely over my hands, leaving only about 1" of my fingers exposed. The sleeve is the proper length when I reach out, so the sleeves are not too long. They just need the stretchy cuffs like the LT has. Now if this were a winter jacket that I'd be wearing gloves with a lot, it might work. But this is just a lightweight spring/summer jacket and I would probably never wear gloves with it, unless I was on my bike. The Atom LT is perfection. Why did they not copy the design in the SL? Very disappointed. I do sew a little, but I'm not sure I could fix this properly, and it's just too expensive of a jacket to try it, so I'm returning it to the store I ordered it from.

Bought an SL for travel to Argentina and Uruguay for three months. Worst piece in my kit the SL was daily go-to under a 3-layer Gore shell. I froze in Uruguay with its high humidity cold nights and days. When it drizzled it wetted out in couple minutes. But to its credit did not wet through.
My daughter has used her Atom jacket and lives in it. I thought this piece would be the perfect insulation layer. After South America trip, I won't even bring it along into the SoCal desert. This SL is too narrow temp range and wind resistance fails in a breeze. It contributes to the $700 clothing budget above the waist design brief holy grail.
Go for it you have the moula and baggage. I travel too light. This piece doesn't earn its way into my bag.

Great jacket, but terribly poor fabric. The jacket fabric cannot withstand external wear and tear. This is not a sustainable product.

I own 5 Arcteryx jackets and all are top-notch quality. However, this one is disappointing and extremely poorly made. I exchanged one, but the same deal, so I think it is the manufacturer general problem. Share some pictures. If you are expecting good quality, I would not recommend it, but if you can live with it, good design jacket.
