I bought an 18oz bottle with a flip lid for easy drinking but realised it doesn't keep the water warm for very long when I went trekking in the Himalayas a few years ago. So i just started using it as a normal water bottle for warm water in the office. Then a few months ago, the gasket fell out and I didnt notice until a few days after. Now it doesn't keep my water warm and it leaks! Had to dry out the contents of my teaching bag the other day after a leak. Man... You got to make sure the gasket stays in. Not gonna recommend this to anyone.

I have two Hydroflask 40 oz bottles. One bottle I have had for about six years. One day when I opened the car's door it rolled out on the pavement and the cap broke. Unfortunately the cap was no longer manufactured. Shame since the bottle was still usable. I found online this "universal" wide mouth flex cap and purchased it. To my shock and disappointment it leaks and when I carry the bottle holding the handle the bottle falls on the pavement, cap stays in my hand! Constantly. I cannot be without water on a trail or a hot summer day. Water ends up on a side walk. The cap simply does not hold the bottle full of water and it's not secure to use it with this bottle. I have no issue with the wide mouth flex cap, that came originally on my other bottle. My conclusion is: if the cap is not an original, it is not fitting on the bottle. Claiming that this is a "universally" fitting cap on most of 40 oz bottles is not correct. I will try to return this cap and put the bottle for recycling. Shame, such a sturdy bottle and nothing is wrong with it. Do not loose or break your caps, cos if it's not an original cap purchased on the bottle, this one will not fit. Have to find some other company cos I need a second bottle. Disappointed.

i was so excited at first to have a reusable bottle to keep my water cold for long periods but now I feel stupid for buying this product.. I should've read the reviews first. The lid design is horrible. The bottle leaks, and it's almost impossible to take that rubber gasket out to clean it thoroughly. oh well, lesson learned I guess

Bought my first hydroflask to replace a thermos i lost. Even though I was diligent in handwashing it several times a week, it still had a moldy smell. I realized that water was getting trapped underneath the gasket thus growing mold. Disappointed that there are no maintenance instructions for cleaning the gasket as I thought the gasket was built into the lid and not removable. Also, since it is removable, hydroflask should offer instructions how to remove or sell removal accessory tools. I had to remove with thin knife and paperclip. Other features of the lid are good including handle. I originally bought wide cap for ease of cleaning...

I brought the hydro flask bottle after a friend have recommended it. I was thoroughly disappointed. I usually use it for hot water but the temperature retention is poor. It does not hold heat hat well, not as long as they claim. The worst part of this product is there is no seal and water leak out from the cap. You have to tightened the cap so hard to prevent the leaking but makes it tremendously difficult to open. Do not buy this flask. Not worth the money you pay.

It's a nice looking but horribly dysfunctional lid. I've just bought a wide mouth double-walled Hydro Flask and while the flask seems very well-made, the lid is poorly designed. I don't get the 'Reddot design award': is that just an award for looks? Because otherwise, I don't think this jury hasn't used the lid for a little while... The gasket inside the lid comes easily loose, sometimes gets back into position after screwing the lid on, and then...comes loose again. Not to mention that this is potential food safety hazard: if you pour juice into the Hydro Flask and some juice gets beneath the lid...hello mould! Remember, I just got this for a couple of days and it's not like I've been treating it unkindly. I dearly wish Hydro Flask will come up with a new lid soon enough, one that's reliable. I can really see myself growing very fond of my Hydro Flask with a better lid!

I have many hydro flask products: -true pints, 22-oz cups, the 21-oz bottles (with sports and standard lids), 40-oz wide mouths (original lid), and two 64-oz (the newest, and previous versions that use wide mouth lid) They all work great! I used to think that the bottles were retaining the smell but it turns out that the LIDS are the problem. all the lids I have for my hydro flasks retain smell and mold. I have bought many extra lids and they cannot be cleaned either. the plastic seal came off one of my lids and I threw it away to get another one. There aren't any helpful tips on cleaning instructions. I have tried everything to clean my sports cap, standard, and wide mouth lids but they all have a sticky mold-like substance on them that is IMPOSSIBLE (even with a mascara applicator brush) to clean! -provide a video or something please...

I have had the rubber seal/gasket fall off super easily when I open my drink. I have to adjust it every time. It is supposed to be taken out so it can be cleaned behind it, but cannot be placed back properly - leading to many spills and leaks on my clothes and backpack. I have tried the flip lid too, but that seems to pop up too easily and spills all over as well. SO OVER THIS PRODUCT! Make a better option please - and replace my lids.

My 14 year old daughter uses this hydroflask almost everyday. Even though I wash/rinse it every morning and refill it because the hydroflask is almost always wet it gets mold growth inside the cap and it's impossible to clean inside the deep grooves. Since this is such an expensive product I would expect it to be made better so that you can completely clean it.

I have two 40 oz HydroFlask insulated water bottles and discovered this cap seal comes apart when hot water in the container. I was hoping to use these insulated water bottles for winter hiking in the White Mountains, NH. As a result of the leaking lid, hot water leaks out of the container, leaks hot water over my back and then freezes bottle to the backpack. I have tried several times to reset the seal in the lid but continues to come apart and leak. The lids are adequate with cold water.

Have older HFs for comparison. These newer lids with the smooth plastic and rubbery handle make it difficult to get a nice grip on opening and closing the lid. The slight texture on the older caps made it much easier to open/close. Hope you can address this as it poses a problem for baby-boomers/older users and disabled. Thanks
