I bought this jacket about a month ago and have used it in many different ways.
Urban: Wearing this jacket while wandering around the city in the fall, it's super warm and looks goods.
Backcountry: The trim fit makes it very comfortable to wear with a backpack and the breathability made it so I wasn't soaking wet after 13km on a warm fall day.
The best thing about this jacket is the weight, before buying the Atom I always used a fleece jacket which is heavier for less warmth and I can say that you will notice the weight difference while hiking.
My one complaint it the collar, I wish there was a little bit of fleece (like in the pockets) on the part of the collar the rubs on your chin.

I bought my ATOM AR jacket for a recent adventure trip cycling 12,500 miles from Ushuaia, Argentina to Vancouver, Canada.
Over the 11-month period the environment changed dramatically and for prolonged periods the jacket would simply be packed down into one of my panniers, waiting for use. But when temperatures fell, such as in Patagonia, Peru, Oregon & Canada, it was invaluable. Its lack of bulk and great fit means it works really well with layering with a shell jacket if the weather turns really bad.
Probably the most impressive aspect of this jacket, apart from its amazing warmth to weight ratio, is its durability. Even after my trip it still looks and performs great.
My only minor issue is that the pocket lining sometimes gets caught in the pocket zipper and gets stuck. A little frustrating but overall doesn't detract from this being one of my essential bits of kit, whatever my adventure.

Honestly the best Jacket I have owned so far. I had the LT jacket and found I was constantly getting cold so I ordered myself the AR. And wow!! What a difference, no matter where I go or what I am doing this jacket is always my first pick. Its breathable, warm and lightweight. Packs small into any suitcase and I have never gone a day without it. Great for the chilly summer nights and warm enough for the cold winter days. I absolutely love this jacket!! If you don't own one yet you need this jacket....

Love, love, love this jacket. I'm using it all the time for fall weather and can't wait to try it out in winter when I go snowshoeing. Packs down to small size so will be my go-to jacket when I travel to Europe.

I got an Atom LT and loved it. I found it not warm enough for the Fargo ND winters so I picked up the AR. Both the Atom LT and AR are warmer than they look. The Atom AR is my go to coat for when it is above 0 degrees F. I often have to unzip the AR when shoveling snow when it is above 0 degrees F. Compared to the a similar weight down jacket the AR is much warmer. For those that live in cold climates it is worth spending the money on a good coat and the the Atom AR is well worth the money.

Recently I ordered the Atom AR hoody, size S, collor Neptune (and also the Beta AR, size S, collor Tui).
The Atom AR fits great. I've got enough space to move and it feels like I'm wearing a soft sleepingbag.
Last week I was walking to the supermarket, wearing the Atom AR, when it suddenly started to rain. The DWR coating worked better than expected!
So far I am very excited about the jacket. It's warm, it fits great and it is very comfortable. Great as a stand-alone piece, or as a mid-layer under my Beta AR.

Best jacket i own, i wear it from 10c to minus 15c.. i don't like wearing too much clothes, but i like to be comfy. If its warmer i wear only a tshirt under, on really cold days i use arcteryx gamma as a middle layer and im never cold.

I bought it as a mid layer for skiing and I discovered it's the perfect mid layer jacket for sailing: it delivers the wamth you need, without being bulky at all.
I'm the last memebr of the crew who needs to go down to catcht the external layer, when the weather turns cold.
I am waiting for the full lenght pants!!!

One of my favorite staples for daily commute during the more cold water.
I've used it in Iceland in Feb and it has held up very well against the cold winds.
It is warmer than the Atom LT as the side panels are also insulated.
If it gets colder, I can layer with a fleece and it still works pretty well.

I was looking for an all-around jacket to traverse the winters of North Carolina - where we get 4 distinct seasons, sometimes in a 24 hour period. Cold temps are never that cold, seldom below the upper teens and often in the 30s. This little jacket is perfect for the chilly mornings and cool afternoons of the Carolina winters. While it isn't waterproof - it does repel light rain nicely. Pair it with a warm shirt or sweater and you're good even in freezing temps.

Great versatile jacket. Just purchased this for commutating to work during the week and biking or running on the weekends. Looks good over a dress shirt and tie, and is comfortable on the trail. I will also try it out as a mid-layer this season skiing in VT. Fits true, no extra bulk and is very light and appears durable.

Wear this jacket spring, fall, winter alone or under a shell. Wears well, washes well. Good high neck to break the wind. Great hoodie too. Company is excellent to deal with re: any warranty issues or concerns. Own multiple Arcteryx jackets plus other clothing. Great product.

If you are looking to wear this jacket without a shell, I would reccomend going up a size for a less "snug" fit. Other than that, great jacket.

This jacket is my favourite piece of clothing, hands down. I have had my same Atom for 6 years with no issues. I use it as a mid-layer for skiing, a shell for uptracking on really cold days, a belay jacket for climbing in the summer, or just an everyday jacket to run around town. I pretty much live in it for 200 days out of the year. The stitching allows for full range of motion in the shoulders which is fantastic for skiing and climbing. The hood fits nicely over both my skiing and climbing helmet while still allowing for peripheral vision. The inner material is more comfortable than most of my cotton hoodies. No need for a long sleeve layer underneath.

One of my favorites. I have been using it for 3 years, but it shows still no sign of any wear. Perfect for daily commuting or hiking in fall or mild winter. The fit is perfect, easy to layer with it. Very easy to take care of it.

Best jacket for mild winter and fall. I am from Chicago and you need a jacket for 7 months here. You can wear this jacket for at least 5 out of 7 months. Great versatile jacket.

In many ways this jacket was a decadent purchase. I don't snowboard, ski, or go mountaineering. I do hike around the hills in Wales now and again, and already own very warm down coats which are more than adequate at keeping me warm, but this coat is just in a league of its own, and here's why I think that:
Unlike the down coats I own, I found the overheating threshold on the Atom Ar much higher and so it becomes such a versatile jacket, allowing me to not only wear it out on cold winter days, but even sat indoors unzipped, I don't notice it on. I mentioned decadent, this will make it count as that, I like this coat because I can wear just a t-shirt underneath to the pub, in the freezing cold winter. No jumpers or fleeces needed. Not quite what the designers had in mind, I know, and not what I thought I'd use it for when I bought it, but there it is. You see, what's also great about this coat is its design and fit; minimalist and well tailored mean it's actually fashionable. Also, I like that it's not a down coat with its puffer appearance, this helps disguise it as a more casual coat. Of course it's not a casual coat, and when used on my photography excursions in the cold UK winter, the technical side came out and sat still or on the move I was warm without ever overheating. It's also an epic windstopper, and when those arctic-originating gusts hit, all I think is how cold my darn legs feel in comparison.
It's April, and this month in the UK we've had full on snow and a heat wave in the space of a few weeks, that's the UK for you. The heatwave has struck as I write this and no longer can I wear my Atom Ar. I put on my summer casual jacket, and it weights a ton in comparison. From the moment I bought the Atom AR I've worn no other coat, until now. So, for those UK summer days that need a jacket, I just ordered the Atom SL, it appears I've become an Arcteryx fanboy. Just to add, on a final note, is around waterproofing; while this jacket makes no claims to be waterproof (just resistant), I got caught on a hike in fairly heavy rain with no shell (my weather app lied to me!) for about an hour. I noticed damp coming into the pockets but nothing else, when I got back I took off the coat and looked for signs of water ingress on the inner side, nout to be found! While I know if I'd stayed out long enough water would eventually have gotten through, it's water resistant is very resistant indeed.
This review might not be overly helpful to those who actually 'need' such a jacket, but that said, I don't care, even for us more casual users, if you can afford this then get it, one of the best items of clothing I've ever owned.

This was the jacket that made Arc'teryx my company of choice. It is a versatile Jacket that is warm, soft to the touch, and packable. It is warm enough to function as an outer layer and trim enough to be layered. If I was forced to pick only one Arc'teryx item, this would be the easy choice and I know I am not alone.

Incredibly warm and well insulated for how light it is. I live in Minnesota, was outside in -45 windchills and only slightly felt cold on my chest and arms. It's not constricting at all, love the cuffs and the scuba hoody. It's done the job all winter long, easily the best mid-layer jacket I've owned.
