Arcteryx is a great company, when the inner pocket on my 10 year old Gamma LT gave up its seam they offered to replace it no questions asked and I paid to upgrade to the MX for a little extra warmth. I've worn it as a day to day jacket for the last year. I commute by bike year round and a few weeks ago I took a bit of a wicked crash - I was pretty banged up - my non arcteryx shorts were ripped through from sliding face down on gravel at speed. The phone and wallet inside my Gamma MX pockets were both super beat up from being sandwiched between gravel and my own weight. The jacket itself was dirty but totally good - only damage to the jack was two tiny holes from the chest zippers poking through after being dragged on the ground where the hard zippers wore through the fabric. I'm amazed this jacket is still wearable after that incident and will totally pay the extra for Arcteryx in the future.

Just purchased this jacket again! I've had a black one for 10+ years and it's been my favorite. I had to pretend like it was worn out and I needed a new one. I picked up a Gamma MX Hoody in the color called Orion and it looks and fits great! Looking forward to"wearing this on out as well"

I've had this soft shell for over 4 years now. Luck would have it that it was the first Arc. product I ever purchased. I don't have one stitch out of place. It still looks great, MINIMAL colour fade, just abide by washing instructions. It is still wind proof and water resistant. If you get caught in the rain for a short period you don't have to worry. I've extended the use of it in colder weather by getting some mid layer fleeces and base layers. The performance of this garment is the best I've had.Other brand name soft shells I owned have not had the longevity of this one.

I bought this jacket to replace my old climbing windbreaker 3 years ago and I am happy with my purchase since then. This jacket is wind- resistant and gives me some extra warmth at multi-pitch belay stations as it is lightly insulated. The fabric is amazingly resistant to climbing-related abrasion and damage. I also like to wear it durong my skiing backcountry trips on warmer days. This jacket also behaved well in light snow situations and I did not get wet. It is not one of those packable jackets one can compress to a size of a sock; this is a piece I try to wear throughout the whole activity. The hood fits both my climbing and climbing helmets. In general there is nothing special about the design or fit but it looks good and it is a true workhorse!

Great versatile jacket for all seasons. I have worn this down to zero degrees with my Atom LT underneath, which is a perfect pairing.
In warmer weather, it breathes well. While there are no pit zips, you can keep the pockets open to vent heat if required.
Overall, a well designed jacket with a lot of thought behind it.

This was my first Arc'Teryx jacket I owned and still wearing it 7 years later. Incredible quality and versatile piece. Wear it as a mid-layer skiing, an outer layer for higher output activities, and just around town.
Fit is trim / athletic.
Maybe my favourite Arc'Teryx piece I own. Certainly wear it the most!

I like the Gamma MX so much I have two, a black one about three years old and a new red one. It's the perfect jacket for where I live in southwest Canada. It's so light and soft I forget I'm wearing it.

I bought this jacket to replace a hoodless soft shell I'd had for over 12 years. This jacket ticked ALL the boxes of what I was looking for! It's the perfect layer for all of the activities I use it for (backcountry skiing, hiking and running around town). Excellent fit and beautifully made.

Love this jacket. Fits very nice. Light and warm enough with a T on under. Sort of water proof in a shower it's great. Heavy rain needs a more waterproof jacket. But great all rounder.

My go-to jacket in almost any conditions (probably wouldn't wear it in sweltering heat). With proper layering I've used it without any trouble in temperatures down to -20 C, and between 0 and +10 it's sufficient with just a decent wool inner layer underneath. As the title suggests, it's a very versatile jacket.
The size is a tad on the small side. I'm always between an XL and XXL, and here the XXL is definitely the right fit. It fits really well everywhere but the sleeves. I find them an inch too long, which is slightly aggravated because there's no tightening mechanism. The elastic sleeves don't really work that well. This, however, is a minor flaw.
Although it's not waterproof, it'll keep you dry through almost anything. I wouldn't bring it as my primary rain coat on a long hiking trip, but on a daily basis, it's more than sufficient.
I also really like the two chest pockets. Very convenient, especially with a backpack.

This is, hands down, my favorite jacket that I have ever owned. I have a difficult time finding jackets that fit my hips while not being too large up top. This is beyond perfect! I can't wait to add more Arc'Teryx items to my collection.

I'm 6'4" and 200 pounds. I first purchased this jacket in a size large. It seemed a little short at the waist, and snug through shoulders. I exchanged it for an XL. The length was much better and the extra room in the shoulders helped. It's a little big around the waist but I can comfortably wear a base layer under and still have room to move comfortably. The athletic fit should be taken into consideration when ordering this jacket.
I would not recommend it for frigid days without a base layer, or days with heavy rain without a Gore-Tex layer over. Otherwise a versatile, comfortable, well built jacket.

Love this thing. Wear it both as an outer layer for winter hiking as well as my go-to shell for wearing around town. When it's colder out, just throw on a micro down layer underneath and you're good to go. Highly recommend.

This jacket is a perfect all year casual wear jacket. I wear this almost daily in the wintertime and use it for the cold Fall/Spring days in Colorado.
My only complaint is that in the winter time, the two abdominal pockets do not keep your hands warm due to the venting material in the pockets. this is also a pro when it gets warmer out and needing some vents without unzipping the jacket.

Good shell for unpredictable shoulder season weather. It's been a chilly fall with lots of windy mixed precipitation days and others that have been down right cold and snowy. The Gamma MX hoody has done a fantastic job of keeping me dry and subsequently warm. The fit is nice and allows for comfortable layering underneath, which paired with my Cerium SL has kept me warm while walking in near single digit F temperatures.
While I wouldn't count on it to keep me dry in a heavy or prolonged rain, it's done the trick for me in cold misty weather and days with scattered precipitation. It's nice to have good protection from the elements with out the sound and stiff feel of gore-tex.
My 2 small complaints:
1st, the inside of the lower hand pockets does not have insulation on the backing of the hem draw cord. Minor, but it makes for a noticeably cooler, less comfortable feel.
2nd, I prefer the Velcro cuffs to the stretch-woven cuffs because of the improved compatibility while wearing gloves. If I'm not wearing gloves I'd have no preference, but these cuffs leave a little area between the cuff and glove that is just a bit open / exposed.
Overall it's a great shell and I'm really glad I picked it up. I hope to get many years worth of use out of it.

Overall I think this is a good jacket. Has proven to be super durable for a softshell, I beat on this day in and day out for work in the winter as well as my backcountry adventures and neither the elements nor my washing machine has made a single scratch. Another A+ piece from Arc!!

I should start by stating "I don't really see the point of a soft shell", but this is one of the best pieces of kit I have.
From the start the jacket is super comfortable, and a good fit. I found the design to be perfect. Large hand warmer pockets will fit a OS map, and the mesh lining allows ventilation to keep me comfortable. The chest pockets are great for smartphones and guide books.
The Fortius 2.0 textile works extremely well and has kept light rain and drizzle off repeatedly. Wind resistance is excellent. The jacket has kept me warm on these Autumn days.
If I had one quibble I would have liked to have hook and loop adjusters on the sleeve cuffs, to allow ventilation.
Yes this is an expensive piece of equipment, but the design and construction are excellent making it worth every penny.

Comparing this jacket to my previous jacket (made by another company), it blows it out of the water or off the crag I should say.
It's considerably lighter then my previous but don't let that make you think it's not going to be warm. Even with the the harsh winds up in North Wales I've been warm and that was with a normal t-shirt on underneath. It's even nice to wear about casually if the weather is proving to be harsh.
The fit is very true fit and has an athletic cut to the jacket. There is a bit of length to the sleeves so don't be worried if you're going to climb in it.

This is a well-made jacket that I plan on using as a mid-layer for alpine hiking. I've also used it around town running errands as an outer layer.

Has proven to be super durable for a softshell, I beat on this day in and day out for work in the winter as well as my backcountry adventures and neither the elements nor my washing machine has made a single scratch, ding or dent. The freedom of movement and breathability are outstanding and with the pockets open you can really vent excess heat to avoid removing the shell. I wash it weekly and after a full year it still beads rain like the day I got it. Great zipper, hood and weight! For me it was on the smaller size of the Arc trim fit, I wasn't able to layer under this one in my normal size Medium. It does fit well so I can't justify removing a fitment star but felt it was worth mentioning. If you can try one on it is probably a good idea before purchasing. Another A+ piece from Arc!!

This jacket is probably one of my favourites now in my closet and in line with my Atom LT hoody. It is fitted, yet allows free range of movement. Warm, but not suffocating. Water resistant, but highly breathable. This jacket is going to be my go to backcountry and resort ski coat now for all days that are not truly requiring GORE-TEX. Additionally, it's perfect for a chilly day of sailing to cut the wind, high output winter hike, and even just walking the dog year round. Also a perfect aprs anything jacket to keep the chill off while reminiscing about the sick lines that were just schralped. It's a sick coat, Arc'teryx!

I seriously love this midlayer! I've wanted it for months and finally decided to buy it and I absolutely love it! I have nothing bad to say about this jacket! I will probably buy it in every color! I do like this jacket more than the LT version just because the inner fleece liner is so soft on comfy. Definitely worth the money!
