Bought these for my 12 year old daughter. I have purchased Keens for years now, for myself, husband and child — good construction, comfortable, waterproof (when applicable), durable. My daughter had Kootenays before - the original and the second edition. These, however, did not fit the same as the previous Kootenays. These boots kept slipping off at heel which meant her foot would slide out. This happened with the strap pulled tautly and secured. I don’t know if they have changed the design to make the strap narrower or the actual boot shaft shorter or both. This is how it looked (and felt) to my daughter. It should be noted that my daughter’s foot used to be wide and has now morphed into a slender, almost narrow, foot. This, too, could be the cause for a poor fitting boot. Either way, they must be returned. Too bad. They check all the fashionable and functional boxes. Hope this helps someone.

We have been buying this shoe for many many years. The changed the design and now fits differently. To stiff and narrow on the front as they eliminated the elastic band on the front of the shoe. It also slips in the back. Not sure why the made the changes but it is going back.

My daughter had a pair of these, wore them for 3 years, passed them on to my son who wore them for two, and THEN the fabric around the top ankle edge wore out, though the shoes were still in great shape! So we’re big fans! I will say that this new version is significantly narrower than past versions and we had to size up quite a bit in this year’s (and last year’s for my daughter). But for a solid warm shoe that can also be used for hiking—these are awesome.
