The shoe felt very unstable while walking, running, and lifting. I felt like my feet were always on the verge of falling out of them. When doing sled pushes my feet did slip out of them even when they were laced tightly. When deadlifting, I felt like the upper did not provide any support and the sole/base did not provide any stability.

I need a shoe for walking on treadmill. Have had 3 previous pairs of Altras and I love the shape. This is the first time I bought Escalante. Yikes. Very, very soft, little support; like sweaters for feet! But, that's not what I need--I need support. I came back to web site to read again the description--nothing in description describes how very soft the shoe is, how little support. Also, the toe box is more tapered than on my older shoes--I loved the old shape. I am very disappointed--this is not an inexpensive shoe. Now I have to go buy another pair before my plantar fascitis comes back. I love my older Altra shoes. Bring back the old toe box shape, and provide a better description of the shoe on your web site.

I have neuropathy and there isn't enough padding in the shoe for my needs, so I couldn't wear them.

Very narrow on bottom, felt like walking on a tightrope or beam. Tow box was roomy, though not stable underfoot for my feet, which are not wide at all.

I so badly wanted these shoes to work out because my running buddy loves them (she's wearing the men's version because she prefers the color choices). I'd been running in barefoot shoes and wanted a shoe with a bit more cushion for longer runs. Unfortunately, I've purchased and return these twice because of a lumpy feeling in the sole of the shoespecifically the outer sole of the left shoe. I thought it might be something wrong with my foot, but two different people in my household tried them and confirmed the uneven feeling. I ordered the shoes a second time because I thought it was a defect in the first pair, but the second had the same problem! Oh well. Maybe I will wait until a new version comes out and try those.

I loved these shoes at first. They were so comfortable, a bit springy, and I loved the stretchiness of the upper material. However, after wearing them for a few weeks I began to realize that my feet were noticeably rolling inward even when standing still. I think this was the combination of the stretchy material and the total lack of arch support. I began developing posterior shin splint symptoms. I prefer running in low-drop or zero-drop shoes. and I've never had problems with this before! I tried an insole, but it just didn't cut it... ended up having to return them. I think these are perfectly comfortable for walking and maybe even short running mileage, but they didn't work for me for any kind of distance training.

I have purchased maybe 16 pairs of Altras and they all fit comfortably right out of the box. LOVED running and walking in them. Recently, to get a new pair I have now gone through 3 different shoes and I'm still having trouble. The Escalante rubbed the back of my ankle so badly I thought my Achilles was tearing. Returned those and got the Torin 5. I have loved the previous 3 or 4 pairs of these I have used. This new version is terrible. The tongue is stiff and the back, around the ankle, is stiff and maybe cut differently, as it rubs my ankle bone..both feet. Based on a chat recommendation, i tried the respera 2 (??) and they were super narrow, something I thought Altra did not do. Sent those back. I am using the Torins but will need to add bandaids to my ankles for long runs. I can't tell you how disappointed I am with the new versions of your shoes!! I don't feel I can recommend them to anyone anymore... :(

I wanted to love these shoes, but they just hurt my feet so badly! The outer sides have more support than inside arch support, so my feet felt like they were at a weird angle and after a run, muscles on the inside of my thighs were really sore from the lack of support on the inner side of the shoe. I also tried adding arch support inserts, which did help with the weird angle. But with or without them, these shoes were just painful to run in (and not because they felt they needed to be broken in more). My feet started aching horribly only half a mile into a run and it never got better. I wasn't sure if it was a sudden foot problem, so I went on a run with a different pair of sneakers and didn't have any issues at all. So I don't know what it is about these shoes, but they were incredibly painful to run in and I had to send them back.

Because my big toes are very crooked, this style just doesn't work for me. The big toe space is much more extreme than in the previous Altras I've tried (see photos). For me, the Altra Viho (discontinued) was perfect, and I think the Rivera (on the right) will be OK. But there would be too much empty toe box space with the Escalante.

I have four pairs of Altra running shoes and this one is so uncomfortable as compared to the solstice XT and the lone peak. The sole is rigid and stiff and thick. The laces are too short to tie. If feels narrow as well.

Escalante 2 was my absolute favorite shoe and I'm so disappointed in 2.5! The 2 was a life-saver for my very picky, recovering-from-a-torn-tendon ankles. A quick 20 minute walk in these left me with incredible pain for days on end. I'm not sure exactly what change may have caused this (admittedly, they felt great when I tried them on!) but I would caution anyone who also loved 2 to think twice about purchasing 2.5.

I had 2 pies if the 2.0s. I LOVED them. The 2.5s I can't get snug enough now that they removed an eyelet. I had to clench my foot while I was running to keep them from sliding around which was incredibly uncomfortable. These have become work shoes because I can't run in them at all. Please bring back the 2.0!

Didnt like at all. Was very difficult to try to get my foot in sneaker. Once in, the top of sneaker was very tight on top of foot. They are wide but i didn't find this sneaker comfortable. Decided to return

I bought these at recommendation from my physical therapist and was very disappointed. I'm a barista and on my feet all day with foot and ankle pain. I did not find the relief I was looking for in these shoes. They have a weird shape too. My big toe is in the middle of the toebox.

I have loved my escalantes for the past two years and this new version is terribly uncomfortable! They have completely changed the footbed. My foot doesn’t stay in neutral with this shoe but instead it forces my feet to the inside at an awkward angle. Please go back to the old version!

I had the previous version that were AMAZING!!! These feel cheap, and are falling apart with very little miles on them. They are loose and the sole is
flimsy, would not recommend for running. Fine for leisure and just walking around but poor for running.

I bought a pair of Escalante 2.5 which I liked it. Therefore, I ordered another pair ~ 2 months later, same size only different color. The 2nd pair feels filmy, as if they are made of thin cardboard. Ultra really should work on having a better quality control!

I am trying to replace the Escalante's I had about 3 years ago. These are not the same. The base is a bit narrow and hits the ball of my foot all wrong. These have no where near the same cushion/soft footbed as they used to. I have to send them back. Altra, please please go back to making the Escalante as you did a few years ago.

My feet felt very unstable in these. My foot was moving side to side and front to back, even though the shoe length (size) was right. Downhills were terrible because my foot jammed against the front. They are very uncomfortable and give me blisters. I have Lone Peaks that I love, but these ones are not for me at all.

Read the reviews and loved them, bought the shoes and hate them. Knit like material feels too stretchy and I can't get the laces tight enough to make them not feel like floppy gloshes. Laces too long and they hit my ankles when I run-did two longer (9+mile) and 4-5 shorter runs and still don't like them. Would not buy again, wish I could get my money back.

I ordered a 10.5, the size I normally wear in Altra's. It's way too small, toes crammed in the end like it's an 8 or 9. So I tried 1/2 size larger in a W's 11 and it's way too big!! Since when does a half size mean more than 1 inch difference in length? I am left concluding the 10.5 is a mislabeled 8.5 or 9. See pic for difference in sizing of the "10.5" vs "11".

I had 3 pairs of Escalante 1.0, which I loved, loved, loved. they felt like walking on clouds, and I wore them all day long, both in the home office and out in the woods or garden. They substantially healed my fasciatis. Finally, the soles showed so much wear that I figured I should get some new ones. What a disappointment the 2.5 are! They actually hurt my feet. I can't tell you the difference technically, but I do know the arches are built differently. the whole shoe feels stiffer and less responsive. If this is supposed to be an improvement in what I thought was the world's perfect shoe, they are so wrong. not only has Altra lost my interest in this shoe, one pair of which I have returned, but they have lost a customer. Because I had to wear it for a while before I could be sure of the fit, and now I can't return them, and I have a 165 dollar pair of shoes that are only good as bedroom slippers for walking to the bathroom during the night over a cold floor. shame on you.

I have had three other styles of Altra shoes before and this is the only pair that actually hurt my arches. I have been very disappointed with this shoe. While it may be one of the best looking designs it is not good to support even a 3 mile run or standing multiple hours. Use for very short distance only. My old worn out shoes are still much better than this new one for support.

I love my Torins as a daily trainer, so I had high hopes for these shoes. Unfortunately, they felt stiff & each step felt like I was running barefoot on hard concrete. Never experienced this with any other shoe/brand
