I love almost every thing about this shoe.
The weight to cushion ratio is fantastic. Forefoot is wide. The midsole has a great balance of plushness and energy return.
I really wish I can love this shoe. But when I began to walk casually in my office, the tongue of the shoe began to move sideways from where it should be, AND IT MOVED A LOT.
the tougue cant stays in its place and it can move far away.
Dear Altra, please bring the gusseted tongue in Hoka clifton 7 and adidas adios 5 to the Torin 5.0. Please.

Great shoe but they didn't last very long. For comparison, I rode my Instincts for 350 miles and retired them due to compressed insole...the outsoles had many miles left on them. 6'2" and 185# so I dont get the greatest mileage, but this is ridiculous.

99% awesome shoes, but the 1% makes it unwearable for long runs. Shoes feel great and looks great. The only issue is the bottom of the shoelace overlay where it meets the toe box creases downwards when shoe flexes on toe off. Every step I take the crease bends downwards and rubs on the top of my feet. It is annoying and will create a blister. Wanted to love this shoes for my next marathon. I would recommend the shoes if you don't have this issue, but for my feet type it was a thumbs down. I do have a higher arch feet.

Of the dozens of Altras I have owned and walked many miles in I have never had a pair deteriorate so quickly, not only so quickly but in the Plush case, wear through the upper on either side of both fore feet and large toe. Will likely look to the Lone Peak Alpine and hope that Altra corrects the design problems inherent in the current Torin.

I have a high instep, and this shoe doesn't work for me as well as previous Altra shoes. There's not enough space across the top of the shoe, and the laces dig into my foot through the thin tongue padding. This causes numb feet after a few miles. The lacing system of the Torin 4 worked much better for me.
Other shoes that fit me well: Torin 4, Torin 3.5 (plenty of space), Lone Peak, Escalante, Instinct

I am wearing my 7th pair of Torins. I have continued to buy this particular style due to the toe room it provided. They have changed width in toe area. Too narrow. Unfortunately I will be looking for another brand next time around

I have run in Torrins for years and I am quite disappointed in the new 4.5 plush. There is less cushion compared to previous versions. One of my friends purchased them and his toes have popped through the top of the with less than 200 miles on them. My 4.0 have almost 800 miles and there is barely any wear on the upper. Go back to the old upper and give some more cushion for an easier ride. PLEASE!!!!

Good: Cushioning is excellent, the lack of a rocker or drop is not an issue - shoe feels great on push-off
Bad: My feet would go totally numb after 2-3km's, both feet. It became unbearable after 10k. I tried tying them the lydiard way like the other person suggested and it helped a little but the overall numbness persisted.
I asked customer service how to alleviate the numbness issue, they recommended purchasing SOLE insoles (another $40-$60).
It's unfortunate as I really liked the cushioning and roominess.

Yikes, what happened to the toe box? I have hallux rigidus and bone spurs on the top of my big toes, and these put tremendous pressure over the top of the big toe joint. Not like my older Altras. Length is correct in sizing, but the fit is just too tight (and I have narrow feet).

I LOVE Altra shoes, I've been wearing the torn line for years but, as many other folks have stated they've changed the sizing on the toe box and this changed the support. Bring back Torin 2.5, PLEASE!

Very comfortable and I liked the way they looked
But you cannot wear these with orthotics as their depth is too shallow. It forced my toes to poke through the terribly designed knit uppers. Soles started to wear down rather quickly.
Not durable enough, needs a redesign ASAP

I was in love with my Torin1.5's, but badly in need of new ones. Unfortunately the new Torin's have less of an open toe area, to the new one does not feel any where near the same.
Really disapointed in Altra messing with a perfect shoe design with the old Torin's.

Im an RN. I walk a lot. When i first started wearing Altras i was immediately hooked.
Recently that has changed. The toe box is much smaller and the shoes dont feel the quality they once were.

I owned a pair of 4.0's and loved them. These are much much smaller than the previous generation. Narrow through the whole foot, tight in the toe box. Disappointed. I sent back. I wouldn't recommend

I've been running in Torin's for years and have loved them, however this new model is terrible. They are very narrow in the forefoot and very loose in the heel.I've never had this problem before. Please please please bring back the original toe boxes. These are the only shoes I am comfortable running in and this change is not good for me :(

Up to 200 km I believed these to be the best running shoes I've owned. I then noticed the small tear in the upper along the outside where it meets the sole. By 400 km these were 10 cm tears in both shoes. Loved the shoes, but they fell apart.

I returned my first pair after less than 2 months due to squeaking coming from the front of the sole every time I pushed off with my forefoot. The squeak is ridiculously loud and can be heard throughout my whole 1500 sq foot office. I thought it was a defect and I've read other reviewers that experienced the same thing with these. Luckily the store I bought them from was kind enough to exchange them out as a factory defect. Less than a week later, the squeak is back! I love everything else about these shoes, but I shouldn't have to try different "hacks" like putting a paper towel in the shoe or switching the insoles to make this work.

I got a pair of the gray plush 4.5s that were amazing... for about a week. All I did was walk in them hadn't even jogged or run yet and the traction piece on the bottom started to come off. They didn't even last long enough to actually get active in.
But wait! The warranty! I held out hope I could get a new pair or something else to enjoy... a month later the warranty department is sending me a pair of blue shoes I didn't ask for and that I'll never wear.
I will say the warranty was relatively easy to get emails back from and send back my information so it's not all negatives. Just bummers.

Well first and foremost I really don't ever see wearing another running shoes other than Altra but in recent years your Torin has been hit or miss with sizing mostly too small and narrow which is the case again with the Torin 4.5 plush I just bought. I've had so many Pairs of Torin mesh or now plush including the pic I attached of the 3.5 which is the greatest shoe I've ever worn. I bought 4 pair and every one just pull them out of the box and go!! So, I'm trying to figure out what to do with these 4.5's I'm running in I probably should have just returned them but I was hoping they would give with some wear. Looks like others have the same issue hopefully future models improve.
On a more trivial note the color schemes are lacking for the Torin 4.5 but that's just me.

Lovw the extra cushion. I have run through 4 pairs of the Escalante. Decided to go for extra cushion and have enjoyed. I have barely 60 miles on these shoes and I have holes in the toe box area. I didn't have this issue w the Escalante. I think it has to do w the new breathable mesh. Will send back for replacement not refund. Other than that an incredible shoe!

First, I really love the feel of the cushioning for easy pace runs, although I could use either more flexibility in the forefoot or more toe spring. The toe-off feels kind of labored, like you really have to push your way through and not in a good way.
As far as the fit goes, I have wide feet in the forefoot and through the midfoot as well. Altra nailed the shape of the toe box but it immediately narrows on the way back so that the area just behind the toes leaves the lateral side of my foot hanging off the edge of the sole.
Altra, please get rid of this upper for version 5.0!!! This is terrible. The back half of the shoe isn't bad but everything from the midfoot on forward is awful. It feels rough, scratchy, and irritates the top of the toes, especially around the pinky toe. The area at the bottom of the eyelet chain presses down on the toes like crazy. Give us some more height there. If I want it pulled down super tight, that's what the laces are for. But when the upper pulls so tightly without any lace pressure at all, there's nothing to work with there. Speaking of the laces, they are horrible. Please just give us some normal cotton laces, or those nice oval shaped Sof Sol ones. These are really just the worst.

These shoes started squeaking after a day of wearing them. I thought/hoped that a few runs would break them in and it would stop but it only seemed to get worse to the point where I sounded like a squishy creature from a cartoon when I walked. After a few all out baths (inside and out) in baby powder it finally stopped for a couple weeks, but it's back and worse than ever. I would absolutely love the shoe if it weren't for the unbearable squishing squeaking noise.

My wife and I are HUGE Altra fans. Altra's are all we wear so Altra Mgmt. please take this in a positive but constructive manner. I see you are eliminating the regular Torin and moving to only the Plush. Huge mistake. The regular 3.5 was a much better shoe. The 4.5 Plush exterior material looks and feels cheap. It's too narrow at the top of the laces resulting in top of foot pressure. All the nice tongue cushioning of the 3.5 is gone. The light grey sole next to the cheap-looking black looks and feels like Goofy from Disney. Consider simple Black on Black and lose the cheap Plush model. Please bring back something like the regular Torin 3.5 in Black on Black. Everyone knows Altras look a little goofy but this shoe accentuates it. Tip: look at Allbirds styling and color concepts, keep the Altra zero drop and you will sell twice as many shoes as you do now. People won't be embarrassed to wear them out to a casual dinner (yes, you can make a running shoe that you can wear anywhere-you're all-day shoes are horrible). It's all they will wear! Once again, love Altra's and just hope you will convert the suggestions to profits. I'm looking for a leftover 3.5 from a third party for now.
