It's hard to find well made clothes these days but I can tell this top will last for a long time! I bought it for my mom to go to Alberta in January so hoping it will keep her warm!

my wife is a hard person to buy for, and I've been enjoying Smartwool so much for biking that I decided to give her some for Christmas. She likes it's so much that she bought a couple more for herself and wears them every day. Winter in the Pacific Northwest requires a warm layer against the skin and this stuff is the best there is. I'm totally sold on it. It's worth the price

I'm 5'6" and weight 119 lbs (for a fact). I wear a Small in base layer tops (for certain- unless it's the Black. The Black base layer tops are cut too tightly- just look at the video of the model wearing them and compare to the other colors, and you'll see what I mean. I tried them once and found that to be true. The Charcoal is truer to size and roomier. So, unless you absolutely NEED the Black, I would just order the Charcoal if you are so inclined for dark colors.) For bottoms though- I find that the Mediums are more comfortable because the waist band is a bit roomier. They do shrink (very nominally) in the first couple of washes (I absolutely do not put them in the dryer, nor do I recommend it), so just order the Medium for the bottom base layer if you want comfort unless you are an absolute 105 lb stick figure.)

It was a gift for a sibling. It doesn't absorb moisture so it keeps them dry and warm. Beautiful design. It's worn as a base layer..

Great quality and very comfortable. Very cute and easy to wear after skiing since it hardly looks like a base layer if you get a solid colour. Very warm, went skiing in weather below -20 degrees Celsius and was comfortable.

It does tend to run a bit small- so be mindful of that when ordering. I love the flower design of the one I ordered and have gotten so many compliments on it. Great for winter running!

Have 7 of the merino base layers in different colors and wear them every day in winter. Comfortable, breathable and easy to wash. They are my favorite!

These base layer long sleeve crew shirts are great! I bought one during a sale and ended up liking it so much that I bought 2 more. Smartwool's website offers several more colors than local stores, so from now on I'll go straight to the source. I just wish I'd also bought the base layer pants during the sale, especially now that it's colder!
Fit / Quality
The fit and cut are good and accurate for wearing as a base layer that isn't loose, but neither is it uncomfortably snug. I'm 5'3", 117 lbs, B Cup, athletic build and wear the XS. I could probably wear a size S by itself, but the S might be too loose to work well under a sweatshirt/sweater, cycling jacket, etc.
These base layer shirts are warm, soft, comfortable, and good quality. One of them felt scatchy once on my upper back, but I suspect it was due to dry skin. Normally they are not itchy/scatchy at all. It's late December and I'm wearing at least two per week since buying them in mid November.
Care
Easy care with machine washing and drying. To save electricity, I usually hang my clothes to dry for a few hours before drying for 10 - 15 minutes in the dryer, but I've completely dried one of these in the dryer and it did just fine.
Use
I wear these at home, running errands, shoveling snow, hiking, and biking. They are nice enough that I wear them under an open cardigan sweater or jacket for dinner, work, etc.
Recommend
100% Reccomend! I will definitely buy another one when needed! I love these shirts!

I love this top as it fits close to the body for additional layering and warmth. The colors and design go with a lot of my pants and tops, making it very versatile. It is go to base layer for me.

Getting older and love my wool sweaters and cardigans to stay warm, but cotton tanks and pullovers just don't add any warmth. It's hard to find something 100% wool and not a blend. I don't wear plastic fibers so this is fantastic. And yes, I did the burn test on some fibers from the seams and it IS 100% wool. I once purchased something that was even stamped 100% wool and it was 100% synthetic (another company), so I am very pleased that this is the real deal and a great weight. If I win a gift card for writing a review, I'm buying another one of these first thing! Great fit and comfortable. No itching at all. It says machine wash but I hand wash and drip dry. Easy peasy.

Every Smartwool product I have purchased to date has more than lived up to its description. So - when planning an upcoming winter backpacking trip, I splurged on a set of thermal base layers. After my first day of below freezing temperature hiking, I came home and promptly ordered another set. My base layers kept me warm without making me hot and sweaty. Looking forward to being comfortable on my January hike.
