Nice smooth leather that's well-constructed. Not too soft, but has a bit of stiffness that I like as leather typically softens over time. I was looking for a bag that wasn't too big, has a zipped top, outside pocket, zipper/pockets inside, and had a light interior so that I am able to find things. If you're looking for a bag that's bigger depth-wise, this won't be for you as it's an overall narrow bag. However, for us petite gals, this would work perfectly if you are one to not carry so much. My only criticism is the strap. I wished it was just a bit longer as it sits quite snug under the armpit especially if you are someone who likes to wear thicker or oversized jackets/coats.
