The backpack itself is very top-heavy due to the front pocket. All I carry in the front pocket are a couple of chargers and a battery pack, causing the entire backpack, which carries my laptop and several binders, to slouch and even fall over at times. Very annoying.

Bought this since it is being marketed as easily accessible and easy to pack since it stands on it's own. This is totally false. Also, the front pocket is useless and if you have things in it the whole thing flips over. Additionally, the packing and unloading of the backpack is really hard if you chose to put something in the front pocket. Really a big disappointment.

Love this backpack! We ordered another backpack (not NorthFace) for my 15 year old (first year of high school) and it broke within the first month. I was hesitant to purchase this one because I didn't think it would be big enough. Low and behold it is perfect! He is able to fit his laptop, folders, binders, and any clothes/shoes for extra-circular activities.

This is an excellent pack and I like the rectangular shape. It fills out nicely and makes for a good carry-on. The FlexVent system is comfortable on long walks between terminals. The padded laptop sleeve is a perfect fit for my 13" MacBook Pro and the side pockets work great for a thermal cup and water bottle when heading to campus.

I uses this backpack for 1 year at a school and the clip broke on the front and a strap broke. I imagine if this was used as intended it would wear out much much quicker.

I bought a new Jester to replace one that was 10 years old and heavily used. The front pocket in the new one is half the size as the front pocket of the previous model. The main pocket is the same. I kept the new one but had the old one refurbished. I can't imagine why this change was made.

I got this backpack because of the padded straps and back panel. I needed a chiropractic backpack for high school because my Jansport backpack wasn't cutting it. To give you an idea, with 2-3 textbooks, 7 binders, 4 folders, a computer and its charger, a notebook, a reading book, etc. my Jansport backpack weighted ~30lbs and I could fit additional items including gym shoes, gym clothes, snacks, and loose school supplies. It was so heavy that I was having back problems.
I have to say, the Jester backpack is very comfortable and the weight of what I can carry now is tolerable. I am happy with its simplicity but the back support is the only reason why I'm keeping it. I can fit a Chromebook, 2 textbooks, 7 thin plastic folders, 1 notebook, and one reading book in the main compartment. I can't use any binders for AP classes because they don't fit. I will have to bring a lunch box and gym bag separately to school, which is exactly what I wanted to avoid. As a busy student who takes everything to and from home every day, I need all of my supplies in one space.
There are design flaws as well. Due to the small front compartment for loose knickknacks like pens, there is more weight on the top of the backpack. This means that 1) the main compartment is harder to access because of its bulkiness, and 2) with both compartments unzipped, the front one will fold over and all of my contents will spill out because the mesh pockets are too short and loose.
That being said, I like the zippers. They are quality and I knew when I received the bag that the zippers were going to last a long time. There isn't any zipper cover that's going to get stuck or caught. I also like the laptop sleeve, but unfortunately it doesn't fit my older 15" long Chromebook. However, 13" computers will fit perfectly. I like the double water bottle pockets as well. I cannot emphasize enough how comfortable this backpack is carrying between classes. Unfortunately, it is not as useful as I hoped and am going to have to look for something bigger next year. If you are looking for something that will hold the entire amount of contents I mentioned regarding my old Jansport backpack, please look at the Patagonia Refugio 30L!

Wouldn't buy again. Could use at least 1 more (small) pocket. Very top heavy/falls over forward if anything is placed in small pocket. Bigger compartment is not big at all. Once I put my laptop in, it feels full already. It does have a nice/design look to it.

Worked well for hiking, but I intended to use this for school; but found I could only fit two notebooks and a laptop inside. Not enough room for everything I needed. Could barely fit a binder inside if I had any books in the main pocket. All this being said, it has a nice design and was pretty durable, just not what I needed.
