This is my first pair of Newtons and I am really happy with them. I ordered an 8.5 and a 9 because I am always between the two. I usually size up with running shoes but actually returned the 9s because the structure of the shoes. "The lugs on the sole compress and rebound...creating a responsive, trampoline like cushioning system..." The lugs do create a unique sensation when wearing the shoes while walking as if the sole of the shoe is missing at the toe end however, you get used to it and you don't feel it while you run. These are running shoes after all and that is what I use them for, running. The price point is pretty high but for me they are an excellent investment. I have flat feet (overpronate) and a knee injury and since running in the Motion 9's which are stability shoes, my knee pain is almost nonexistent. Newtons may not be for everyone but really like them. I might try the Kismet next.

They look cute. Felt small and very shallow toe box like my big toe was going to break through, thought about ordering up a half-size, but decided the blocky tread under the ball of the foot (not the toe, though) felt too weird. Returning. It kind of feels like you're standing on a block and if you rock forward on your feet, you'll fall off. Very weird sensation. I'm not a runner yet?) so maybe this provides some function that runners like?

I feel bad leaving a low review for this particular style of Newton running shoe because I run in the Newton Kismet 5 and really like that style. This newest Newton shoe, however, has extra cushioning of the shoe.....built by adding layers of extra tread on the bottom of the outside of the sole of the shoe. If you look closely at the photo of the shoe, you can see that on the bottom of the shoe, it is raised about 1/2 an inch, compared to the rest of the shoe....therefore, the bottom of the shoe is not flat. While walking, the shoe feels uneven, like walking over a big rock, in the forefront of the shoe. I wanted to point this out as when I ordered the shoe, I did not notice that in the photo. It was when I wore the shoe I could feel this big difference, then noted the bottom sole of the shoe not being equal. It felt like my foot was rolling over a big rock stuck in the bottom of the shoe. Newton is a great running Company, but this particular shoe is very different and I would like the buyer to be aware of the outer sole bed of the shoe.
