These are superbly structured shoes. The sole is the most stiff and supportive I’ve found in any low hiking shoe, including Scarpa and Asolo; excellent for hiking, even with a moderately heavy backpack. The lacing system is very adjustable and the two layer tongue system keeps out dirt. Note*** these are sized small — low volume and narrow. The fit is totally different from the higher volume, wider “Mountain Trainer Lite” model, and this is a more refined shoe. (I wear a 12 in most American shoes, a 13 in the Mountain Trainer 2, and a 12.5 in the Mountain Trainer Lite).

I had high hopes for this shoe, but it let me down in many regards, and at the end of the day: I asked this shoe to perform for me, and it simply couldn't keep up. It is NOT a high performance shoe, and yet it's at the very top end of price.
For starters, the grip is substandard, and I found myself slipping on terrain I normally am able to traverse with ease. There just aren't enough lugs for good traction.
The fit is a bit tight in the toe box, but that's not nearly the biggest problem.
The biggest problem is something in the design that absolutely chewed my feet to pieces.
Let me be frank: I'm in phenomenal shape. I hike 60 miles a week. My feet are at the pinnacle of fitness and I've not had a blister in YEARS.... till I wore these shoes. In just 14 miles, these things ripped holes in my heels, from the bottom of my foot all the way up my achilles.
Over the last year, I've bought half a dozen other brands of hiking shoes (you can imagine I go through a lot of them), and NONE of them impacted my feet as adversely as these. So, something pathetic in this design, accompanied with the miserable grip, make this the worst brand of hiking shoe I have experienced. Couple that with the astronomical price, and I seriously regret this purchase.
I demand better in a shoe!

Love the shoe, it's narrower (sole) and tighter (Footbed) than other same-size salewa eg trainer Lite. Has fab elasticized cover over tongue holding the sides together acorss the top of the shoe - but that also contributes to the tightness. I wish it worked for me. I'm standard men's 7.5/ 40

Had to go to a lager size and still they are not comfortable, I find them very hard to keep laces tied plus the smallness of laces make them hard to tie
