While I was in the Army Nike rolled out their boots that were 670-1 compliant and it was a game Changer, and these boots remind me a lot of those Nike "boots": Light - light - light and very comfortable especially in warm weather, but where the Nike "boot" was under supported, and you'd roll a little on the sole, these are more sure footed, and have a confident boot tread, and in that way reminded me of my - more formidable - Garmont T8 boots. These Palladium shoes have the added advantage of being actually waterproof; they have a fully gusseted tongue, and keep feet dry in the wet. I haven't stood in a river or anything cocky like that, but they've worked as well as any of my goretex boots, and I've hiked with them in the rain a lot. I do use an orthotic insole inside them, because they are a little bit bare bones, (which I also did with my Nike boots). Frankly, they have the abilities of a boot with the weight and comfort of a tennis shoe, and that's a win for me.

The waterproofing lasted for about four hour-long walks in the rain. They are still drier than sneakers, but I saw dark streaks appearing in toe area today, indicating places where the water is soaking through. I'll try applying some wax there. At least I didn't spend a lot of these boots.

I've only worn them once and stayed in my bedroom. They need an aftermarket insole and are too large. I already have the canvas Palladiums (which I really like) in size 10 but the toe box is a little tight and as there is no wider size 10 I went up to a 10 1/2. The Palladiums in general need a Dr. Scholl's to be wearable which I did for the canvas model I wear almost every day. I haven't made up my mind yet on returning them.
