I've been buying the old version of the XA Pro 3D goretex for over 12 years, wearing them for work, play, and day to day. Great shoes that took lots of abuse and travelled up and down many mountains with me. Picked up a pair of these new ones a few months back and keep trying to give them an honest shot, but they're just not as comfortable. I find the one piece construction (over the tongue) to put pressure on the top of my foot which is painful over a couple of hours. Unfortunately the goretex has apparently given out on my last pair of the old model as they have started to leak, so I guess I will be giving these some more wear time and hope they begin to feel more comfortable.

I bought this model thinking it would solve the problem with my last Salomon shoe purchase. To my dismay, it didn't solve my problem. I have a wide foot. I usual buy one size wider and they fit fine in most shoes. Not so with this model even though they are advertised as "wide." Not enough room at the toes. Another issue is the zip tie laces. They are ridiculously too long. I see no reason to have this ridiculously long lace. It flops and gets in the way or I need to painstakingly tuck it under the front because the lace pocket has become so small you can't easily tuck it away. The whole reason I love the zip lace is to move quickly. Now I lost my reason for having this type of lace! These are my 4-5 consecutive XA Pro model for the past few years. They will be my last.

Re. XA PRO 3D v8 GORE-TEX While I like wearing these shoes, I am very disappointed in them. They are a warranty replacement. The original shoes (XA Pro 3D CS WP) have been discontinued. Salomon replaced those shoes because the soles began to separate from the shoe at the welt. That was very disappointing since I liked wearing those shoes as well. The problem with these shoes is that a lace eyelets tore out. That renders the shoe useless. They are still under warranty and Salomon has offered me a replacement. However, the shoes are not currently available in my size so I must wait. I have now been without the shoes for a month. Pros ----- Comfort Traction on snow and ice Quick laces are convenient but not worth the hassle of replacing them. Waterproof Cons ---- Tongue is shorter than on the original shoes I bought. It frequently gets trapped inside when putting on. Heel loops are smaller than on the original and too small for my fingers. Quick lace frayed after 4 months of wear. Replaced by Salomon. Note that quick laces are very thin and not like ordinary laces. You cannot replace with any ordinary lace. Lace eyelets are frail. One tore out less than 6 months after receiving the shoes. I have never had this happen with a traditional lacing system. I will never buy shoes with a quick lace system again.

I've had many of these trainers over the years . I wheats go one size above as they are a tight fit . They are very comfy but the quality has gone downhill , the goretex wears out very quickly and the trainer upper material perished after only a year of light use . Great customer service but Salomon need to stop buying cheap materials .

Great support and prettier look but awful insole. Opposite of comfortable! No cushion. I can't wear then more then half an hour and can't even think of going to a hike with these. I think it could use a more cushioned layer.

I've been a loyal wearer of Salomon can xa pro 3d gtx. This new update is not as good, the gore tex liner can be pulled out of position if you tug on the tongue, the tongue falls into the shoe whenever you remove the shoe. It also seems a little narrower than the previous model.

I usually have wide feet so the wide was the go to choice for me! The width is perfect however the length is frustratingly inconsistent. The 12s were boats and the 11.5 are to short. I ended up keeping the 11.5s because my foot didn't slide around in them. I had the speed cross 4s in 12 and another pair of boots in 12 and they were perfect. These not so much. And also I've only had these shoes for a few months and the left outside side wall has already teared. I want to love these shoes so much but I cant. I love salomon and their customer service but these shoes are far from perfect.

I could tell soon as I put them on that the mid sole was far too narrow, even though it was a wide width size. Too bad because the styling is different and I wanted to like them.

Have been wearing salomon boots for work and trail runners for hiking/running for years. Bought this pair for a vacation in Asia where I will be walking in alot of rain. Within 3 days of use, the upper lip by where the speed laces tuck in and the side where the zigzag design is started to fray and tear. If this is the durability of the shoe from walking on pavement a few km's a day, I cant imagine how they will hold up on an actual hike/run.

I have been running and wearing Salomon shoes for about 15 years - this is the first time I have been disappointed. The lace design caused huge toe pain after just one short walk. The shoes felt good in the store. I returned to the retailer who have declined to follow up the Salomon warranty sadly. What can I do to restore my faith in Salomon shoes?

Fit a bit narrow compared to my other shoes that I usually wear but I still have comfortable wiggle room for my toes. Unfortunately, they're starting to hurt the arch of my feet real bad when I was taking them out for a walk.

Had the shoes 4 months and had several holes in the inside of the shoe. Parts of the shoe are plastic. Exterior looks fantastic. Only wear them to the gym, so unsure why the inside of the shoe didn't hold up. Had the exact opposite with Brooks. I will try a different style of salomon's.

This is at least the 3rd pair of this model I have bought over the recent years. They all look great and are super comfortable. However, the durability has been poor each time. They all tend to fail a bit too soon on pretty much the same spots. The slim plastic shoe string simply cuts through the fabric on top surface of the shoe with normal wearing. Just from the normal friction. Right above and behind the toes. In addition, the shoe cracks on the side way too easy. Right where the rubber components meet the fabric. The current pair I have is relatively new and hasn't even seen rain nor a real sunny and hot day. I have a few pairs of different shoes so this is not my only pair of daily shoes. This shoe has not been on any trials or rugged road yet. Simply disappointing!

Been a fan of these shoes for several years. This version did not last 4 months before fraying and loss of water protection. Soles started separating at less than 6 months.

These shooes only lasted 4 months. So return them to the store. This is the 2nd set of Solomons that have worn out in less than 6 months.

I received these shoes as a warranty replacement for a pair of X Ultra 4 GTX that failed after a couple of weeks of use. To my surprise these XA Pro also failed in the same way in a matter of few weeks. The stitching on the inside of the heel failed exposing a hard intrusive seam and allowing the foam stuffing to come out. These have only been used on flat smooth trails and paths of 2-3km when I walk my dog, and probably have less than 50km total. I have almost exclusively used Salomon footwear most of my adult life and have had many pairs of X Ultra, XA Pro, Quests all GTX and regular, and I have been extremely happy with them, my current Quest 4's are fantastic. My wife also uses Salomon footwear (X Ultra 4 GTX, X Mission, Quest 4) and swears by them. However my last two pairs have been very disappointing in both comfort and durability. I don't know if its a material, design or manufacturing issue, but I feel the quality is no longer what it used to be.

I ordered these in the hopes of them being a "wide" width shoe. You might as well go and remove any thoughts of what a wide width h shoe is. These fit me like a MEDIUM width. Very bad decision to purchase.

All these shoes separated at the seams with medium use. At first they start our great then slowly come apart. Salomon has been no help and only gave me a coupon after my second pair failed. On the 3rd pair and both have come apart. See pictures. Salomon needs to spend more money on improving the quality of their shoes and less on advertising. I just wish they would take better care of there customers

This is my fourth pair of Salomon shoes or boots that have needed to be replaced under warranty. I concur with other reviews that the quality has gone steadily downhill across the whole footwear range, but this is the worst pair yet. This pair was delivered in June (as a replacement for a different pair) and has been used sparingly for walking the dog for perhaps 3 months. They are now letting in water so that my feet are completely soaked after walking through dewy grass.

I have purchased these shoes for many years but this latest iteration removed the forward most plastic cord slip which allows the cord to slide directly against the fabric loop, causing it to cut prematurely to the shoe's wear. After being cut there is no real repair option and the shoe is ruined despite having plenty of tread left. Salomon, bring back all of the cord slips to protect the loops from cutting!

I probably went through three pairs of the previous generation of this shoe and loved them. The new "V8" version has been a disappointment. Perhaps it's due to their effort to make them lighter, but the quality is just trash. Bonded fabrics & materials have delaminated after very little use, and in non-typical areas where abrasion would normally occur.
