I purchased the xa pro after 2 pairs of speedcross 4 and these are more comfortable, sometimes I wear them because I think they look cool. I only have about 125 trail miles but they are holding up well.

I normally wear a 10 1/2 and had to get them in 11. They are comfortable and suited for everyday wear although the arch support is not great.

The only reason I did not give these shoes a 5 star is I have only owned them three months. I walk daily with occasional trail hikes. So far they are the lightest shoe with extreme comfort. Well worth the price.

I have run on and off the trail in them and they are just what I was looking for. Maybe runs a half size small, though compared to a previous pair of trail runners I was replacing.

I can walk around in these shoes all day. They take a little bit to wear in, but they are durable and tough.

I love these shoes. I've been getting them or a similar version for almost 10 years. The only problem with them is they constantly split open near the inside tow.

These shoes by far were the best hiking shoes I've worn..until they changed the design. This will be my last pair. Go back to the old design.

I love the light weight and ruggedness of the shoe, but the toe box is just too narrow making it unusable (and I have narrow feet).

Looks good and well made but not for me. Even with my own orthotics instead of the rather flimsy supplied ones I felt the arch support was inadequate. Sent them back, regretfully. Fastening system is great but not enough to persuade me. Oh, and the refund is taking its time

Got my first pair around 15 years ago and at that time the XA Pro 3D seems last forever. However, I think the quality is degrading and both the sole and the surface of the shoes worn much quicker than it used to be. It still give me the comfort and I am reluctant to try something new. Though it was not durable now but I will still buy my fifth one.

I liked the shoe. Broke in easily, excellent under dry conditions. Had to cross a stream a few times and the insoles kept doubling up on themselves, forming a roll under the balls of my feet. Super annoying. As long as you don't come across some unexpected water, a fine product. Vortex wouldn't have helped, as my feet were submerged briefly.

I've had almost every version of this iconic shoe from Salomon but this v8 gives me blisters on the sides of my big toes. Overall sizing is right but the old versions never did this before. Seems like using less stitching and more welding/fusing also makes the structure weaker and too flexible and pulling the quicklace tight just squishes the side of the shoe right to my toe. I want to love these shoes again!

Bought these to replace a pair of 5yr old pair of 3D Forces. 1 year in and the sole looked nearly as bad as my old ones: lot of wear and cracks. Used on mixed surfaces including some asphalt...maybe better suited to soft/loam conditions. Very comfortable and stable otherwise. Salomon warranty and customer service was fantastic. Will buy another pair of forces this time.

Ran twice in them so far, but they are wider than standard D width. Also a little clunkier and heavier than I would like. The tongue on my right foot chafed a wound into the top of my ankle. Will have to wear a band aide when I run. I was looking for a companion pair to the Speed Cross 5, which is not as good as the SC 4, but these will most likely wind up as a walking shoe due to the weight and bulk. The Salomon lacing system is also annoying, but can be looked over if the shoe is liked. If I was able to try them on before buying, I would have looked for something else.

Been looking for a replacement for a 6yr old pair of Solomon's which I love. Thought these were it, but rather disappointed. It almost feels as though there's an entire area of shoe missing under the arch area. The whole platform doesn't feel supportive. I put arch supports in hoping it'd help, but I'm still not liking them. Still great quality, but this is one of those times I wish I could've tried them on first.

Salomon - please change this shoe and bring it back to the great shoe that it was. I have worn the Salomon XA Pro 3D from over a decade for hiking, trail running, and mountain climbs. It was a near perfect shoe. This v8 is not just an update to the original wonderful shoe, it is a completing different build and feel. Even if you talk to people at Salomon, which I have, do not let them fool you. This is very changed, and not for the good. I measured the shoe inside and outside. It is measurably more narrow and longer (enough that I felt like I would trip). The dimension changes make the shoe noticeably less stable and clunky. The outsole and lacing system are the same - which is good. But what does that matter if the shoe is clumsy. I am not kidding when I say it is more narrow and longer. And that is the inside, the outside and the out sole. My verdict is that this version is not useable I really loved that original version that I wore so long. Why to companies make changes like that to a great shoe? They also decided to make people angry by ending the Women's X Mission 3. Why Salomon? Why? I have one last pair of the originals on hand that I wear sparingly. They are so good. I have so many PR's with those. Salomon - again change this shoe and bring it back to the great shoe that it was.

I have owned and worn out 5 pairs of the XA PRO 3D shoes. I had never worn a better all around shoe for hiking, bouldering, walking and working shoe. For some insane reason THEY FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGED THEM! Completely different feel - more rigid with less support. Different sizing - narrower and longer so I'm constantly stubbing my toes. There is a more plastic and cheap feel to these. I am so beyond disappointed, and a complete waste of money. I now have to find and spend money on a replacement. Sorry Salomon, but after 8 pairs of hiking boots and shoes, I'm looking elsewhere.

I have worn the Salomon XA Pro 3D for many years. They have taken up many mountains, given me trail PR's and helped me summit 14ers. This v8 is not the same shoe as we are led to believe. I don't know why shoe companies seem determined to changed shoes that are loved, but they do. This v8 is slightly lighter as described. That weight loss is small and unnecessary. But it not the same. It felt different and looked different so I measured the shoe with my caliper. It is narrower and a bit longer. It feels a bit less stable (But that is only because the last version was amazing. So tough comparison.) Your toe will have more space, but it is not wider, so it would not work to go 1/2 size down unless you have narrow feet. That slight length in the front gives a somewhat clumsy feeling. It also makes the lacing a little less comfortable. I loved the glove like fit of the old version. The older shoes were perfect on the mountain. Great traction, fit, support, and ruggedness when scrambling. It v8 is not the same. They do not feel quite as stable and ready for the fast mountain climbs and descents as the previous version. That is my estimation based on what I need and what I do. Yours may be very different. I just wish companies would stop changing loved shoes. I would love to find the old version of this XA pro 3D.

The photo of the shoe is a grey/pewter mesh with black trim...says its grape leaf. I liked what I saw and what I got was almost a military green. Kinda disappointed. If you expect grey like the photo, that's not what you will get. The green is just ok, but does clash with some things, where a grey would work with about anything. Wish it was grey.

This is my 5th pair of XA PRO 3Ds, but first of the new v8 version. They still fit extremely well. They feel put together just as robustly as all the previous versions. I also think these look a bit better too. My problem is, as at least one other reviewer stated, that the lace that attaches to the toe box/front of the shoe digs in to my big toe. There's a constant pressure like someone is holding a wire over your toes. Never have experienced that with any Salomon shoe before and certainly not with any XA PRO 3D model. If I leave the laces loose it gets better, but then I'm walking out of the shoe. Just keep that in mind when ordering. The shoe still feels great on my feet, but once I cinch down the laces the pressure on my toes gets irritating.
