The expedition version is the only way to go with plastic boots; that's gospel. I've used both variants for years and I take the view they're almost perfect with one caveat: they need a zipper in front which would be zipped and then covered by the Velcro flap. Why: 1.) When putting on the gaiter, a zipper will line everything up perfectly straight whereas the Velcro by itself invites getting things crooked - especially if you're sitting on the ground, in the dark, with cold hands and too little caffeine. 2.) Velcro gets tired over time and this happens LONG before the gaiter is worn out. A zipper as the primary closure means that the thing stays closed no matter what and the Velcro flap is just a back-up to keep snow and dirt out of there. The existence on a zipper could allow the Velcro strip to be narrower than at present and this would reduce bulk.

Great for ski mountaineering or wet bush forest hike. Yes, they are very comfy, fit good and breathable. No they are not so durable, as I need to. The buckle and foot strap were damaged pretty quickly. This little velcro shield also pretty quickly stop working fine. And shin material Just one careless movement with you crampons and one, or tho, or three big holes in my Crocodiles. :( Very sad, that I can't buy and replace metal buckle or strap.

I got this for my son as he was going through other gaiters. He wears them for backcountry backpacking excursions in the fall, winter and spring mostly with micro spikes. He wore them last weekend for ice climbing. He got a little nick in the gaiter when he was climbing but didn't tear like others. The only way we'll get away from nicks and tears would be if it was made of Kevlar. But this was perfect for just getting out to do some outdoor adventure.

Used daily in wet weather for walking to save washing trousers. Easy to put on, effective. After about 8 years one of the buckles broke. Now buying another pair.

The Gaters are very tall, and I'm a bit concerned that the buckle location for under the boot strap is too low and will receive considerable abuse. Plan to put these to the test. :)

Great for mountaineering and snowshoeing for when your buddies don't wanna go skiing ;) keeps snow out of the boots quite well, but like all gaiters, gets a little sweaty inside while exerting on the uphill. No frills, gets the job done at a good price.

Gaiters are a must when bushwhacking, and these have been through a lot and have held up great. My one complaint would be at times the buckle at the top has come undone. Not a big issue but if I had to do it again I would have opted for the Expedition version as the buckle appears more secure.

1. I wear a size 10 boot/shoe. Large was to big and they slid down regardless of pant style or how much I tightened them. I exchanged for the Medium which fits just right. 2. Too much name placement on the gaiters. Maybe twenty somethings are wowed by name brand all over their clothes but I can do without it. 3. I don't understand the point of the Velcro closure over a heavy duty YKK zipper with a protective flap. Perhaps it's to adjust the circumference of gaiters depending on changing pant style? That being said listing the true measurements would be helpful in purchase decisions. Circumstance and length are far more important then boot size. Quality product overall!

These Gaiters are stellar. They provide protection from the elements where it is most necessary and will keep everything out of your boots. The three layer Gore-tex is hard to beat and keeps the feet dry. I do have a few nick-nacks that could be improved to make this a excellent product. 1. The draw webbing on the top of the gaiter is very flimsy and will often twist making it hard for the clamp to shut or stay shut. This is not a big deal, but it does create an annoyance having to always spend 5 minutes fixing it every time I put my gaiters on. 2. These are made for some pretty harsh conditions (snow and heavy rain), but I have found that these do not breath very well and if I am wearing a pant that is keeping my upper legs warm, my calves will be burning up, causing sweat and then my legs get wet from the inside. Which contradicts the reason that I wear gaiters (to keep my feet/legs dry). Over all these are well thought out and I do prefer these over any other type of gaiter. But there could always be improvements. My experience with these are: Hiking for 3+ years and a 90 day excursion with NOLS. I have mountaineered, hiked, backpacked and canyoneered. They have been put to the test and from all other standards; passed.

These were all that I expected. They were ordered with the step-in snowshoeing package for men though I am female. Had the size 7 boot and 25 inch snowshoe. I ordered medium thinking that with the length of my legs I would need the height to my knees (I'm 6 foot). Turned out I was wrong and could have gotten away with the small which would have allowed the bottom to fit tighter. They are fine and I have not had any issues with use but if I bought a second pair would go down a size with a men's size 7 boot. Velcro is super stuff makes for a very secure fit.

Bought the gaiters primarily for snow shoeing. Gaiters go on easily, keep pants very dry.

I use these in conjunction with my LL Bean Cresta Hikers. They fit great in the sinch style straps of my pack for quick deployment and to let them dry between uses. They are very tough and rugged and the material is very waterproof. Only two notes here: 1. They are too loud for hunting. The material is very firm and won't snag up, but it's to dense for stealth. 2. Snow tends to pile up between the boot and the gaiter and can creep up the inside. This might sound extreme, but if you are going to be in the field in extreme conditions and can't afford any loss of heat, use duct tape or some para cord to sinch them down horizontaly around the top of the ankle to prevent this. Excellent product.

Worn with most of my boots, they leave a gap that allows deep snow to pack inside the gaiter against the ankle of boots while hiking. They are also too long. realizing some of this is down to sizing, but the only sizing guide bases it off of shoe size. They do keep the bottom of my pants a lot dryer though. If the bottoms of these are only meant for mountaineering boots, the description should say so.

We hike every Saturday summer and winter. Bought 2 pairs of these gaiters because they were expensive amd hopefully the best. The buckle has broken on 3 of the four in less than a year. Other features. Front opening is a better feature of these amd other gaiters. They are stiff and don't slide down easily. However the stiffness means they also don't tighten at the top as well as lighter gaiters. They don't fit as tight against the boots as some brands and will let snow in from the bottom in deep snow.

I would rather have a zipper than so much Velcro. The Velcro is unwieldy. Otherwise I really like the gaiters

These gaiters worked great. simple to put on and take off. The top of the gaiter has a strap to cinch the top tight but it doesn't work very well. Your calves need to be the size of your quads for it to actually tighten down. If snow levels were higher than the top of the gaiter, I would have had some issues.

Feel like very waterproof and sturdy gaiters, but never had the chance to wear them as the sizing seemed way off. I wear size 12 shoes and have normal size calves, but found the XL (recommended for 10-13) far too big. They couldn't tighten enough at the top, the entire length was very loose, and the bottom formed no seal with my tall hiking boots. I then returned them and ordered a L (recommended for 8-11) and still found them too large at the top, loose along the leg, and not tight fitting like against my boots at the bottom.

The prong on one of the gaiters broke on my second outing. Was descending Mt Michener through the bush and noticed one gaiter riding up. Was surprised about the nature of the failure. I've rigged it up was some zip ties. Holding so far.

Im new to ice climbing. So I'm still learning to walk with crampons.. unfortunately I miss walked and did a hole in my gaiters.. I guess that's why they are there to prevent it from doing a hole in my pants. Still I tough there were tougher than that.. just a little feed back. Have a good day

A couple of things I don't like about those gaiters: they are too narrow at the calf. I am tight in them, and I don't have a particular big calf. The clip at the top mean you have to take your gloves off in order the thread the strap into the clip. Why make it more difficult than it needs to be? And the little Velcro double-flap at the bottom of the gaiter seems more like a nuisance to me. Again to manipulate it I feel I need to take my gloves off.
