This backpack is exactly what I needed -- for work, travel and everything in between. I love the sleek, compact design that doesn't compromise on space. I can fit everything I need for the day without the bag appearing overstuffed or bulky, an issue that I've had with other, lesser backpacks. This is my second Timbuk2 bag, so consider me a lifelong customer.

This looks like the perfect personal item for flying with a laptop. I can't wait to try it. Big enough but not to big. Roomy enough but not to roomy so it gets over stuffed. I think it will be great for a weekend bag.

I bought this bag to my commute to work. It looks great and has several smart, functional features. The only drawback is that it could be bigger in size, particularly so that I could fit my lunch box within the bag.

Finally decided to buy a Timbuk2 backpack after years of wanting one! Love the color and how spacious it is. Got it for work and commuting. The straps could be more comfortable and I wish the laptop pocket was a little tighter, but overall a good buy.

I like the look of this pack. It's really small and minimalist. I feel as though you can fit a laptop or a large textbook, but not both items at the same time. Quality is great.

Great, as I needed a new cool backpack. I love the color! Only problem maybe is that the straps need more padding in my opinion and its not fully waterproof. Otherwise its great!

This bag is very good looking, with the promotion I paid for, it's totally worth it. However, I do wish it had more organization inside the main compartment. Also, the straps are not comfortable. I use it daily as a work bag that contains a 15" laptop, a notebook, and a bunch of necessary smaller items. The straps already feel like cutting into my shoulder. If I add one more DSLR camera or something weighs equivalent, it would be very uncomfortable.

I use this as a commuter bag to/from work. The size and amount of organization offered is perfect, and it's also a really comfortable pack. Fits my 15" laptop nicely and leaves plenty of room for other items (i.e. gym shoes/clothes) in the main compartment. Front pocket offers the organization I need without overwhelming the bag. I keep my phone, keys, wallet, badge in there and still have room for a couple other small things if needed. The water bottle holders can be a little frustrating because my bottle (YETI 18oz) digs into the main compartment of the bag, but I'm okay with strategically packing if it means I get a well made pocket that doesn't look like a saggy diaper or give off jetpack vibes when not in use. All in all, this bag does exactly what I need and it looks great while doing it.

I really like my new hero backpack. It fits a lot of stuff including a padded pocket for my laptop. I love the color and fabric, only issue is the shoulder straps don't have enough padding. I would suggest that a future version beef up the straps for a more comfortable carry.

I purchased the all-black one, and its quite close to what I was looking for, but fails to become an all-purpose backpack for me. I'm a petite 5'-3" female runner that enjoys running on my commutes to/from work. I'm also an architect, so this review is coming from a designer's personal perspective on balance between aesthetic, function, resilience, and flexibility.
The size is just right for my frame, and the all-black minimalist aesthetic works for my job. However, I wish it came with sternum and waist straps, or the ability to attach the Timbuk2 sternum straps to create a closer fit so things don't jostle as much when I run. I also wish this was waterproof as it rains quite randomly here in NY. Obviously I haven't used this for running yet as it's not suitable, but if Timbuk2 would like to improve the Hero for a wider demographic, I think this would be a great next step.
On the flip-side, I do find this helpful to carry the hefty Lenovo laptop and wires that my company gave me when I need to travel, but again I wish it had a sternum strap or two to distribute the load more evenly. I find my shoulders keep getting pulled down and back, to the point where it's actually quite painful. I do like the roll-top function though as it affords flexibility to store groceries, bulky jackets, etc, but it would be nice to have two buckles to effectively pack down the items. The side pockets are pretty helpful for carrying my water bottle and umbrella, but they don't have any drainage holes and I think it would hold on to water when it rains, even though the fabric is permeable. Similar observation for the front zipper pocket- its a place where water could puddle and permeate into when it rains.
Overall, it's not super great as an all-purpose hard-working backpack for an active, petite, female who lives in rainy climate like myself. However, if Timbuk2 made the simple improvement of adding sternum traps and drain holes, that would elevate it immensely.

I transferred my usual daily items from my North Face to Timbuk2: a 14' HP Spectre, cable bag (all my cables, adapters, USBs etc) personal booklets - Senior citizen booklets, coins, paper money, house, office and car keys, mini-box of medicines and some. Timbuk2 is deep, really deep but lacks the pockets on the sides and back plus all the compartments, pockets inside. I am a regular columnist with the Manila Times, the Philippines oldest and respected daily. I need the functionality of my North Face.
The good news is I can put an extra shirt and towel. But I have a gym bag for that since I cannot mix the sweaty gym apparel with my daily items. The strap and back are not padded. When bag is heavy, the strap digs into my shoulders. Deeply disappointed. Will check comparable Timbuk2 bag next time.

The backpack looks fantastic initially, everyone would agree it's a stylish bag. However, immediately upon opening my package and feeling the bag, I was disappointed in the quality and durability of the bag. The material feels very thin and cheap. There is hardly any padding on the back, straps, and bottom of the bag. While there is plenty of storage space inside, there is absolutely no internal storage or compartments except for the laptop slip. There is plenty space, but no compartments for functionality, and without the durability and padding of the bag, it feels risky filling it up and taking advantage of all the space. There is internal storage in the front pocket, but it's quite small. Overall, if you're looking for a sturdy and functional bag, I recommend passing on this one.
