I love this hip pack so much. It's not like something you wear out on the town or to the bar (but I guess you could haha) but for hiking, fishing, etc., it's super nice to have, especially if you like quick access to a few small things (phone, binoculars, writing utensils, fly boxes, snack, etc.). My mom was admiring mine, so I got her one for Christmas. Hope she likes it! Also nice to have so many color options. Not water proof but water resistant-ish. Nice zippers and synches.

I purchased the Hip Monkey for a trip to Europe. We toured around to three weeks and I took it everywhere with me. It was large enough to hold a 21ounce water bottle, sunscreen, sunglasses, and as Adam Sandler would say "Keys, wallet, phone".
I wore it cross body and was able to put the pack on my back when walking or in front when in crowded places like museums.
It has one compression strap near the bottom of the bag. It works great but I wish it had another one near the top too.

I love the hip monkey so much I bought 2. I use one for my Everyday carry essentials. And I use the other for Fly Fishing as it carries all I need for my Tenkara fishing as well as my rod. This is a great butt pack for light day hikes, and you can buy the mystery ranch bottle holder and attach it to the pack. This will be a good addition for anyone.

You can stick two nalgenes in this pouch, or one bottle and a pistol, friggin huge. Also, the support panel is absolutely what makes the hip monkey what it is the best.
A whole family of chipmunks could live in the pouch. Used it for every adventure on a week long boondock out in Bryce Canyon area. I left my day pack at home and was able to take my rain shell, a nalgene, radio, phone, headlamp it's just so much room.
With a pack on, I wore it at 3 o clock, and med pouch on belt at 6, with a pistol chest rig. Never became cumbersome. I will buy another for gifting. Awesome product. Glad I made the commitment.

I bought this with the intent for multiple uses, but thus far I've only used it for fishing. For that purpose it works very well, it'll hold 4+ fly boxes along with all the other necessities. Loaded down it's still comfortable and easy to get to the smaller pockets.
One critique I have is with the waist belt and buckle system. I hate having straps hanging around everywhere and the width of the waist strap makes this even more annoying. This product would be on the next level if mystery ranch included some simple elastic strap keepers with the product. I went out and procured my own to take care of it.

Used this for quick access items backpacking around Alaska.and it was perfect, durable, large, easy to access. Like other Mystery Ranch items I've owned, this one is just as well made.

This pack rules. The hip monkey is everything I hoped a Fanny pack could be. The straps are beefy and support the weight of ALL THE STUFF you can pile into it, because it's basically a small backpack. It also doesn't look like a typical Fanny pack, which is to say it doesn't look lame. It's the functional Fanny pack I've been looking for my whole life at a pretty reasonable price point.

I picked this up a couple of months ago to use for short hikes and turkey hunting and have to say it works very well and has tons of room for everything I need to take. So far quality appears great with durable fabric and nice zippers.

I use this product for working in sports medicine. It has been the best pack I have used. It is durable, most products made specifically for sports medicine dont seem to hold up. There is a lot of room, different spaces for organization (not as many as I would like but it makes up for it with its space). And when I am out of season I can use it to hold a 6 pack.

Had a trip coming up so took a look when Mystery Ranch's email advertised the Hip Monkey, and the sample shown was in the old British DPM, a favorite. Turns out that color was already out of stock but put in an alert; a few weeks later I got the "in stock" so jumped. I have used it as a cross-sling pack during my daily PT, an essentials pack in the pax seat on a cross-country drive, and as a waist pack walking around my alma mater (USAFA) at 7280' for a reunion, a bottle of water they 'issued' everyone on top of everything I thought I needed for several hours away from the car. There is plenty of room in the main compartment for a rain jacket or thin fleece pullover depending on their bulk; it's size is approximately 2/3 that of an old-school M1956 butt pack. I carried my ever-present notebook (two, actually), ibuprofen, allergy meds, sunglasses, and a few small items. The outer zip pocket has room to carry those small items you need frequently. The inner zip pocket covers the back wall, however it doesn't expand so best suited for thin things like passports, folded documents, or a spiral notebook and pen, etc. The waist strap and connecting panels are wide enough to keep the pack from pitching up or down. I would like to see either elastic loops or hook-and-loop straps added to secure the loose ends after tightening the belt and will fashion some of my own after this "field test." Worth the (short) wait, and well worth the price. As the British would say it's "good kit."

I bought this as a boo-boo kit to keep in my MR Sweet Pea. It had adequate organization, and is a perfect size. The only problem is that it won't stay in this setup for long, because I keep finding more and more uses for this bag. The belt will slide all the way open if you drape it over a shoulder, but holds tight when clipped on the waist as it should be.

Enjoying the large size but the straps loosen too easily.

Pros:
This thing is big enough to carry everything you need while your out and about. Codura nylon keeps everything inside fairly dry and a great front compartment to boot! Great for biking, city/park and hike treking and EDC.
Cons/needs improvement:
For being a primarily tactical focused company some things can be improved on this bag.
- needs a slightly bigger inside zipper pouch
- inner lining should be soft velcro compatible /attachable
- belt strap should tighten from the back not the front to give better lumbar support and a tighter more secure fit when you're fully loading the pack.
- MOLLE webbing on the front and or side
- small zip compartment on the side intermediary between pouch and belt
Otherwise a decent affordable pouch!

I like everything about this bag, except waist buckle. Adjustment friction is enough for when you wear it around your waist. When slung, it's horrible. Any weight slung slips the buckles from both sides.

The quality is most definitely a 5, but I took one star off because the strap is not the best. It slips very easily so I find myself adjusting all the time as it slips down my waist. I typically find my self just slinging it over my shoulder. I'd rather keep it on my hips, but it still a great bag overall.

The bag itself is great but the main buckles on the waist belt are terrible. They slide on the nylon with little resistance which means every time you pick it up, try to put it on, or sling it over your shoulder, the waist belt slides right through and opens to its widest size ...every...single..time.

I have 1 and it was fine. ordered another and the main compartment zipper did close the way it should I'll be returning it. ordered another but had the same problem, talked to company and was advised to call another department. haven't done that yet. Frankly, the whole thing is a pain in the rear. poor quality control

I debated purchasing this bag for a few years. I constantly rotate bags for work, biking around, fly fishing, and hiking around. This bag is sleek enough I love wearing it with just a few small things OR I can pack with a ton of stuff. I frequently carry a sweater, windbreaker, water bottle, nitecore battery pack, and other small items. Would for sure recommend!

Its pro and con is the size. I heard that it was going to be big but I didn't know it was that big. I want to buy another smaller bag in the future but as of now, this bag carrys my fullsize handgun comfortably. I love the quick strap adjustment feature.

The only think I would recommend would be a strap tail management system. I bought the little Velcro things that you guys sell to do that, so it's all good. It would be cool to see those sewn in more though. Tiny item of possible improvement. Amazing bag though!

I have used the hip monkey for a full year and love it. It's the perfect size to fit all my essentials - first aid kit, water filtration, tech gadgets, etc. readily available without needing to carry a full back pack. The one thing I wish it had would be molle webbing on the side flaps to allow for mounting a water bottle holder on one side a small pouch on the other ... but I knew it didn't have that going in so not losing any stars over it. Great pack!

I bought this bag before traveling and it was a good daily pack for essentials. Nothing too crazy but a solid hip/crossbody bag.

I bought this pouch/bag at Christmas for an upcoming Elk trip in New Mexico. As always, Mystery Ranch products are top notch. The materials, the zippers, webbing, and color choice are all great choices. I know I needed a new small carry pouch for my med kit and some other items. This fit the bill and will have years of service and memories. I could not be any happier. Thanks guys!
