I've owned Chameleons since the first model. The 8's fit snugly and narrow which is a good fit for me. However, the squeaking noise is loud! On the trail or in the office they hear me approaching. Hopefully, future models will be quieter...

Alas, I had to return them. I am older with stability issues and found that qualities of stretch were comfortable, but made for less stability than more traditional shoes.
I love Merrill shoes and ordered a pair of 'work shoes' from them to replace them.
The return was well handled, thankfully.

Love the shoes..hate the laces..they are way too long..and since there are a single loop..you cant adjust them. I've got at least 6 inches of extra lace..that has to be wrapped around all the other lace at least twice..and looks terrible.

I have worn these stretch shoes for over a decade but it seems both the 7 and 8 have a problem with the inside heal stitching tearing apart. My v7 lasted only 6 months and I was hoping the v8 was better but after just a month they are showing issues so I added some shoe goop to try and keep the seam together. They need to re-examine the placement and materials, the heal black fabric and stitching is not holding up like the versions before the 7. I would normally wear the soles out first, but on the v7 and v8 it seems the heal inside the shoe is the weak point. Going to have to look into something different I guess.

These shoes are great looking, built well, and very comfortable. The sole -- that is, the walking surface -- is 1/2" narrower than previous Chameleons. Almost all of the time that's no problem. But I've had these shoes for a couple of months now, and on a few occasions when I change directions quickly my foot keels over outward almost 90 degrees. Luckily my ankle doesn't sprain easily, so my foot twisting just causes a misstep. But for a hiking shoe company, this change in the sole width is a surprisingly poor design change.

Shoes fit great in the store, but after 2 weeks of wear they make a squeaky noise while walking, and feel loose on the feet as if they stretched. I also love the speed laces concept, but these are way too long. After tightening the laces, I'm either walking on or tripping over the excess laces. What makes matters worse, there are no replacement or shorter laces available that I know of.
I'm on the fence about these shoes, I want to love them for their comfort, but it's hard to get passed their faults.

I love the design of these shoes they are great looking, and comfortable. The issue though is they creak very loudly which can be rather embarrassing when walking in a quite area such as my office. I think the sound comes from the insoles as they are compressed, I have tried various remedies mentioned on the Internet, talcum powder, Vaseline, but to no avail.

It is much darker than in the photo. This model looks cheaper than the old Chameleon Stretch II from about ten years ago.

I absolutely love the look of these shoes and they are very comfortable. However after wearing them every day for about 5 days my mind has become completely fixated on the loud creaking that comes from them, even with the slightest movement. When I walk through a relatively quiet environment like my office they are embarrassingly loud. Unfortunately I didn't keep the box, plus I've been wearing them for several days otherwise I would have returned them.

Not the previous Chameleon 2 Stretch which I stocked up on years ago immediately when it was discontinued. I'm on my last pair and was happy to see that Merrell brought this style back to life. Unfortunately it wasn't even close to the original. The leather is not of the same cut and quality. This is a softer less structured version and did not hug my feet quite the same. Not that it's bad, just that it had a tough act to follow. The Vibram sole appears to be just as good. I'm waiting on version 9

I LOVE this shoe. I have been buying this same shoe for over 10 years. I'ts comfortable, wide and has a low center of gravity that help keep your ankles from rolling over. BUT I have one major disappointment... The rubber at the toe always separates from the leather or shoe material. I was excited that the Chameleon has a rubber strip across the front that should help the rubber stay down as well as add toe protection. When are you going to start adding these rubber strips to the Chameleon Stretch?

I LOVE these shoes so very much! Remind me of the great Chameleon Hex that i cannot get any longer. Just purchased two pair but sadly may have to return (verdict still out)because Im just not sure I can deal with the long laces any longerget hung over things while driving and other stuff. Im very sad.

These shoes are quite comfortable, and very well made , typical Merrell. Only problem is the tongue is connected to tightly to the rest of the shoe, making them hard to get on and off.

Shoe is comfortable but from the moment I first walked in them, they squeaked. I sounded like Squidward from Sponge Bob when he walked.

Bought 3 weeks ago, sorry I did. First few days, AMAZING. After that less so. Still very comfortable, but they developed a squeak with every step, both shoes. I felt like a clown. Reading online, I found that lots of people say the same. It's too bad, because they felt amazing on my feet.

Like so many others, I have worn Chameleons for well over 10 years. I currently have 3 pair. The most recent pairs I bought at the same time (black and brown colors). These newer ones have an obnoxiously loud squeak. I drive everyone in my office crazy when I walk around. Merrell has advised folks to pull the insole and sprinkle baby power and reinsert. This did not work, and when you remove the insole and walk they still squeak. I would like to continue buying, but I don't want any more noise.

I bought my first two pairs of chameleons in 2007 and 2008. I wanted to get back into chameleons again as they were the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. The last two pairs 2021 and now Dec 2022 were narrow and the stiffest and after a month both pairs squeak so bad I am embarrassed to wear them around work. Quality has defiantly changed from the first generations to now.

Major disappointment! Have worn Merrells's for years - Moabs. Toe box too narrow resulted in sore feet. All other Merrill's' have been true size. Have worn size 14, medium width. These shoes disappointed!

The elastic draw strings have no place to be secured. The fact that they are Elastic means they will stretch and pinch in places they shouldn’t. The keeper broke within days so now I’m left with a loose sloppy shoe on one side. I am on my feet a lot and I’ve found these to be the worst shoes in their price range that I have worn. Absolutely terrible.

Purchased these a couple months ago and although they are decently comfortable, the elastic ties are way too long to properly tighten around my feet without having way too much excess after. There is almost 14 inches of excess tie left over when I am able to tighten them properly.

I previously purchased a pair of these Merrill shoes. However this latest pair of Chameleons proved to be narrow along the toe area. I'm was very surprised to use the newer pair versus the older pair I still have. I used them hoping they needed to be "broken in" but to no avail. These chameleons are defective in the manufacturing process. Buyer beware of this occurrence
