I've bought the Scree pant several times over the years and generally, these are 5-star pants. Most comfortable cool weather pants ever.
This year they have been put through some cost reduction exercise. The embroidery from the past is now some kind of iron-on, and the materials in and out seem just a bit lower quality than in years past.
Still an excellent pair of pants, but not at the level of quality I expect for this price point and just an overall huge bummer that a brand I love like Marmot feels the pressure to do this to their outstanding products.

I have two pairs of Scree pants that I bought about 3 years ago and I absolutely love them. I saw that these were on a steep discount so I decided to buy another pair w/out reading any of the reviews. What a mistake. Marmot has effectively ruined what was a fantastic product by introducing unnecessary changes. The three worst changes are:
- There was a zip pocket along the outside of the right leg on the previous scree model, and now that pocket is in the front of the left leg. It's quite possibly the worst pocket placement I've ever seen in a pair of pants and it renders the pocket completely useless. You literally could not put anything in that pocket without it bulging a few inches above your knee. Aesthetics aside, it is also terribly uncomfortable to have anything at all in that pocket. It is quite literally useless.
- There was a zippered back pocket on the right side in the previous model and they have decided to remove that. Why, I have no idea. Cost savings I guess, but I use that back pocket all time on my other scree pants. Huge disappointment.
- The bottom/cuffs used to be zippered and that has also changed. There is a drawstring on the model that apparently allows you to tighten the cuff, but I routinely unzipped my cuffs an inch or two on these pants to allow them to fit over boots. Again, cost cutting at the expense of the consumer.
- The Marmot name was embroidered/stitched in a thick fabric on the old model and on the new model that has been replaced with a heat stamp. It makes the pants look pretty cheap. I have some other (less expensive) Marmot items with heat stamps and they ALWAYS start to peel away within a year or so. I expect that will happen with these pants too, making them look like a complete mess.
All in all these pants went from being one of my favorite fall/winter pants to being something I'll only use to walk the dogs with. Totally disappointed with this new model of pants. It seems that the reasons behind the changes were to cut costs since these changes do not benefit the consumer at all. I have loved Marmot over the past decade but repeated experiences like this lately have left me feeling pretty upset. It's unfortunate.

I enjoy the pants greatly, and would wear them often if they had a back pocket like every other pair of pants I have ever owned. The construction is nice and they fit great, but the omission of the rear pocket has made these my least favorite pants simply by the lack of one small creature comfort.

Bring back the rear pocket, please...! This is the greatest pant, but we need the zipper rear pocket back. Who puts their wallet in the front pocket..?

I had one pair of Marmot pants like these that lasted for years with continual outdoor wear and no complaints, I love them. my wife bought these pants for me about 2 years ago and I've hardly worn them, with no real outdoor use - and the crotch seam split open. very surprised as I expected the same long-wearing quality I had from my first pair.

So disappointing to hear that Marmot changed the pants,I have a pair from 2015 that are still holding up very well.Hooefully they bring back the original design,as I was looking to purchase another pair, but holding up for time being.
