I use them for walking 3miles a day. Toe box is why I buy them, but the laces are too short always have to buy new one. The no drop is perfect for my balance, I do have to add cushion.

I love this shoe. I am transitioning to all 0 drop shoes but don't think I will be able to fully transition to barefoot shoes fully. I do not like the open mesh top. My shoes are filled with sand and rain. I don't think I will be able to use them in the winter because then my shoes will be filled with ice and snow. Theses shoes would be perfect if they has a more closed top.

I run daily. Treadmill and outdoors. After an injury I tried MANY other pairs of shoes, but had to return to Altra for the wide toe box. Love the Escalante racers because they are light. Though couldn't use coming off injury because not enough support. You need strong lower legs and ankles to run in these.

I have run in Altra before. Currently I am sidelined with an injury so just using for walking. I love the zero drop and that this shoe isn't super cushy. I prefer minimalist shoes but due to injury needed cushion for recovery. My only complaints are that the laces are short and as some complained the tongue curls up when putting on the shoe. It rubbed a pretty nasty blister on my foot so you have to make sure the tongue is laying flat. The toe box of Altra is great! I have a bunion and I can comfortably wear this shoe.

These were my first pair of altra, everything works out pretty well for with this shoe. actually looking to get another pair because i'm not personally interested in the feature other altra road running shoes offer, so REALLY would appreciate some colorways that are less i-put-no-thought-whatsever-into-how-my-running-shoes-look looking, if that makes sense. Also kinda wish there's an iteration of escalante that is the racer but with grippier outsoles? or a road-trail hybrid version of this.

The fit of these shoes is Amazing!! I have flat feet with a wide toe box area and have always struggled to find shoes that don't rub raw spots on the sides of my big and little toes! The wide toe box on these is perfect for me, I wish I'd known about Altra years ago! I would always be fit into wide shoes due to my unusual foot shape and complaints, but they never worked for me because my entire foot is not wide. They are also so light and flexible, they feel like I'm walking on air! Only complaint about this particular shoe is that the sole is pretty thin, but I knew they weren't a super cushioned shoe when I purchased. I find that my feet are a bit sore after a a few miles (and no, I'm not a heel striker). Also, I have pretty flat feet, and because of the unique shape of this shoe, I cannot wear my standard arch support inserts with these. But honestly, I'll take the trade off for the comfy fit! Looking into the wrap around arch supports as an alternative and thinking seriously about buying a second pair!

I've been wearing Altras (Lone Peak) for the last couple of years. Anytime I put on a traditionally shaped shoe with a tapered toe box since switching to Altras, I feel like my forefoot is so cramped. I was looking for an option that was a little more lightweight than the Lone Peak (5 oz vs. 10 oz) and more versatile. The Racer looks great and is stylish, I plan to wear for athleisure, but with this shoe, I feel like I could break into a run at anytime. For a comparison to anyone new to Altras, I purchased these as well as a pair of New Balance 996v2 and the difference was painful. For a visual, the Altras are on the left in the photo and the NBs are on the right - look at that toe box difference!
So why 4 stars? Similar to a few other reviews, I did find the Racers to be a bit more narrow than my Lone Peaks at the same size, it may be due to style/purpose (a road running shoe vs. a trail runner), but I like consistency in sizing when I commit to a brand. When fully loosened to feel comfortable, I have a small space at the front where the tongue isn't complete covered and my sock peaks through. I'm hoping they'll break in a bit. Since these aren't my primary running shoe (I mostly trail run), it wasn't a deal breaker. Still a huge win over any other brand of shoe.

Overall I love the upgrade in style of the Altra shoes over the years. This is my favourite par so far when it comes to the escalantes. The only 2 things I would critique are: shoe laces are too long and the sides of the tongue fold under when putting the shoe on which doesn't make for a smooth process .

I was having terrible neuroma pain. The wide toe box and low drop in the Escalante Racer made all the different. I wear these for running and for running errands. But...Your feet will get wet if it is wet outside. Please make better color combinations. How about a basic navy instead of another black with a crazy sole?

I was so excited when I opened the box and saw how awesome these shoes looked! Unfortunately I had to send them back because they were too narrow. I'm so sad they come in a wide.

I love this shoe. It's lightweight, feels incredible on my foot (even with bunions), and I can order my true size and the fit is perfect. My ONLY issue is that after 2 runs, I noticed some of the seams near the laces becoming separated. It's possible they were like that before I ran in them, but it's an obvious defect as it's only occurring on one shoe. I'm going to attempt to exchange and see if this was just a fluke issue.

I really like the breathability of the shoe and perfect for casual wear. I have worn size 9 in all other escalante shoes, but in this size, the size 9 was WAY too big.

The only reason I'm not giving these shoes 5 stars is because of the breathability of the mesh. As another reviewer mentioned, the mesh is totally breathable which exposes your foot to the elements. This is not the shoe you want to wear in rain, mud or snow as your sock will get wet/ dirty. I was nervous about getting a white shoe, but these were so cool looking, I couldn't resist. I usually wear a women's 8.5 in Nikes or other sneakers, but Altras fit me smaller at an 8. I wore these shoes right out of the box, running on a treadmill and weight-training - no blisters at all! They are so comfortable, functional and stylish. The perfect indoor training and casual shoe in my opinion.

These were so cute in the July 4th color. But I don't care for the tongue (no padding and too squishy when you put them on so you have to try to fish it out and adjust it. Upper was a little stiff as well.

I work in the hospital setting, always on my feet/moving around. I first had the Torin 1.5 but wanted something a little less bulky and came across the escalante racer '18. I got the NYC edition and was quite happy with them. Stylish and comfortable. Many people have commented on them. It was time for new ones and I am over the moon with my 4th of July edition escalante racer '19. A great design of one blue shoe, one red shoe, American flag and USA proudly displayed. Love this shoe! My only complaint is how open the mesh is at the toes for spills or other things of that nature, but love how breathable it makes the shoe. A little give and take. And they're so light!

I love love love my Escalantes. They are the first shoes I've bought to run in that I will get a second pair of. They fit like you aren't wearing anything and the pavement magically disappears. My only request is that you make the exact same shoe without dates. My Chicago 2018's are beginning to wear. I need new ones and don't really want an old date on them. How about navy or something.
p.s. I wear regular Escalantes too. They are good for casz wear and for shorter runs. I got black to wear to work. Happy feet.

Please bring back the original version but with the center midfoot width of this shoe! Check my image and see the blue pair in the center thats the original iam referring too. Im currently trying out the black racers in 9.5 which feel okay but if the escalante 4 is any indication of what this shoe will feel like after awhile of wearing I have low expectations. Just stop adding cushion into the bottom we like altra for the zero drop & the foot shape toe box bring that back plz!!! And the blue option as well

Please just black color with white or gray details if necessary for Escalante and hike shoes for women like before. Not all customers like colorings! Why not to keep colors and styles that have been a success?! Three stars because the colors option and I will not buy with the colors available.

I can't stand shoelaces!!!!!!! WHEN is Altra going to use velcro????? Not only do I not like shoelaces...but Altra's seem SHORT, makeing me dislike yours even more. What a shame to ruin these great shoes with yucky shoelaces. VELCRO is where it's at, Altra. When ya gonna get at it??

These shoes are great for HIIT classes but the tongue is barely big enough to cover my foot and the laces are extremely short. I have size 7 feet and have never run into this issue with other sneakers.

I love escalantes for weight lifting, and have worn them for many years, but the full mesh version is so impractical. My big toe broke through both shoes in about 3 months, and if I wear them outside, gravel and debris get inside the shoe. I really wish the uppers were a different material.

Gosh DARN it Altra!!!!!! Go back to your old designs!!!! This is the last pair I can trust with you. The new escalate SUCKS!!! My feet hurt! I'm a physical therapist and have always recommended you but since you've sold out and are clearly lacking on quality I can no longer recommend!! If you would just stop trying to ruin a good thing! Also why is there only 2-3 shoes with the original foot shape and everything is so narrow now? What are you DOING?! Please fix this, or this truly will be the last pair I buy for my husband, for myself and the last of altar I ever recommend. So sad!

I have been running in Altra Escalante Racer's for over a year now! I have always chosen Altra running shows for the zero drop, lower stack heights, and especially the original (wide) toe box. Right now Altra doesn't have any options that match the reason I started buying these shoes. There's still a lot of us runners out with wide feet who would benefit from having the original toebox option and the low stack-height. I have a really wide feet and the old Altra running shoe models were the best! I'd love to see these Escalante Racer's with an option to choose the "original" size toebox.
