I have another pair of ALDO leather boots that have 8" tops with a traditional welt and heel, that I use for motorcycle riding. I thought I would give these shoes a try as a replacement for my old and beloved Converse Jack Purcell leather high-top sneakers. Since this shoe does not come in half-sizes, I first ordered it in a US 10 (I typically wear a 9 1/2). The size 10 was way too large, especially since the shoe is wide. So I exchanged it for a US size 9 and that actually fits OK. Good in the length, and still a bit on the wide side, but with a partial insole it now fits acceptably. Once they get a bit more broken in, I believe these shoes will be very comfortable. I really like the style and the two side zippers in each shoe enable you to get a very snug fit and keep it that way each time the shoe is worn. There is not a lot of shock absorbing material in the heel - another reason why I put in a half-insole. I have not had occasion to try out the waterproofing features, but the shoe seems well built to repel minor amounts of water, including a thin rubber covering for the zippers. I am 5' 10" and 170 lbs.
