This is an initial, out-of-the-box review. The leather will wear and stretch and fit better with time, so I'll continue to wear it despite the following points: It does feel very narrow, and I have narrow feet. They squeeze around the top and around the balls of my feet. They do support my higher arches pretty well, though. There's also a closeness in the heel in the 'cup' that makes getting them on pretty hard that I hope will soften with use. I normally wear a 7.5 or an 8, the latter especially especially in boots, but they only had a 7.5 and an 8.5 left. I'm glad I went with the 8.5 because there is only a little room left in the toes. That combined with the aforementioned squeeze means a 7.5 would not have worked. Also, I'm a chubby person who rides bikes, so I have swole calves. It took some wrestling and compromise to get them to zip closed over mine--until the leather stretches more, I won't be able to wear the top eyelets laced when wearing boot socks. That said, the laces are a bit short, so if you don't have skinny lower legs, be forewarned, because even if they fit well, the laces will only barely tie. Also, I read previous reviews about badly-finished and sharp eyelets--knowing that, I looked and found one that had been smashed out of shape and bent so the edge curled up instead of down. I could press it back down, but that's something to watch out for, in case the metal tears and forms a point. All that said, here are some positives: the leather feels like good quality (and smelled heavenly opening the box for the first time). The heel height makes me feel taller without being unsteady. Once these wear in, they'll be good walking boots. They look great, very classic adventurer sort of looks. I hope they wear well, since these are an investment piece for me. I don't know much about repairing shoes but I did some research before purchasing and it *looks like* to me, an amateur, that the soles can be replaced by a cobbler. I know some cobblers mention Frye by name, but they may be talking more about the work lines. So far, I'm pretty happy.

I love these boots!! I was searching for a boot with a post apocalyptic style; a rugged combat style with fashionable possibilities, and these are it! A great distressed brown with a blackish finish. I initially went with a size 8, but that was too narrow in the calf. Heads up, if you have muscular calves go up at least 1/2 a size; I went up to 8 1/2. To put these babies on and see if they fit you'll need to completely unlace them all the way to the ankle or at least make them super loose, and then tighten and adjust a bit at a time. These fit great in the foot and ankle overall. I was able to lace them all the way to the top. Possibly see if you can buy longer laces if you need to. The leather is high quality; of course-they'e Frye! A great, solid, well-made boot. I would suggest boot socks for these. Definitely an investment. I have had several Frye boots over the years and they've lasted over 5 years; with some re-heeling by the local Cobbler. I'd say worth every penny. I have had several compliments already. Super comfy to walk in, I took them for a decent walk around the neighborhood and wore them the rest of the night around the house and they felt great. Possibly use an insole for more cushion or arch support if necessary. Definitely a great look, a keeper, and another winner from Frye!

I love the boot I did have to exchange for a bigger size in all boots I wear a 6.5 (regualr shoe size is a 6) however in these I needed to have a 7. it was tight in width and length. Leather quality is good.

The listing says this boot runs true to size, but in fact it's at least one full size smaller than I expected. I'm disappointed that they don't have the size I now need in stock.

Well I thought I would send them back because I couldn’t get my foot in the left boot...they are so adorable I couldn’t give up. I redid the the laces and made them looser by my foot,that did the trick ! They have a thick leather lining that sticks to your sock. I will say I could not get a fat sock on with these but I don’t think I’ll need one...they are well made and comfortable and like I said adorable...fool around with the laces and you’ll have it made !

Love these. I was looking for a pair of combat boots that didn’t end right in the middle of my calf (widest part of my lower leg) and these were a god send. The color is more a very dark brown leather with some lighter spots but from a distance they do look black. They are fully adjustable which I love. I tightened them around my ankles and then loosened them so they’d fit a pair of skinny jeans inside. For reference I’m 5’2”, athletic, and about 120 lbs and these fit my legs perfectly. The shaft came up to an inch below my kneecap which is exactly what I was looking for. I feel like I can kick butt and look cute in these! And the sale Zappos was having made it much easier for me to splurge on these (even with their great discount, spent a couple hundred).

Oh the smell of the rich leather. These boots are beautifully made. I feel like they will last forever. I absolutely love them.

Beautiful but they fit really strange in the heal. They would kill the back if my heal and give me bad blisters if I wore them. Sadly have to return.
