These shoes did exactly what I needed them to do - they are very warm, water-proof, and comfortable. I used them for a trip to Scandinavia in December and January where temps were usually around freezing or below and snow and ice were frequent. My feet were the one area that were never cold... never... even when everywhere else was. The sole did great on ice and snow, and in addition, was really comfortable on the uneven cobble stone streets prevalent in many old sections of some cities (unlike my other boots where I could feel every stone). We averaged 8-10 miles of walking daily while sightseeing, were in and out of buildings/museums, and stayed outside for hours at a time including overnight for New Years celebrations, and through it all these boots remained comfortable. Though they are chunky, they were stylish enough to wear with slacks and skirts given the location I was in where everyone else sported similar sensible fashion. I did size up one full size so I could wear super thick wool socks. In addition, they are very warm, too warm to wear now that I am back home as my feet are getting way too hot now, so I will need to save them for the next extreme cold trip (Chicago in February!).

I really wanted to keep these -- they're slip-on Danners! But the small inflexible opening made it difficult to get my foot in (even with a thin sock, which isn't how I planned to wear them) -- and when I finally got my foot in, the sock was pulled uncomfortably against my toes. I can't imagine trying this with thick socks. Also the shaft height stopped at a spot above my ankle where it was actually painful to flex my foot. The style looked great (a little clunky just as I wanted) but maybe this style requires a zipper to help with these types of comfort issues?

This is a serious burley cold weather bootie, for snow and ice. It is a little on the heavy side, but i think will keep my feet very warm and dry. Danner makes a little lower profile bootie for winter, with a thinner sole, called mountain chelsea 600 but I decided to order this stockier version for big snow events. I usually wear 8.5 or 9 in boots/ hiking and run, but the 8 fit just fine, so they run a half size large.

The fit is perfect. This is my new favorite boot. Clunky like I wanted, warm but never feels hot. My feet stay dry. A very stable foot bed for hiking, walking in snow and ice. The ankle is tight to get into but once in the most comfortable shoe I own. I find I do not need thick socks since the support is so good. I have taken several long hikes and never a moment of uncomfortableness . With the tight ankle snow does not get in the tops so another added bonus!

They are snug, but not uncomfortable. I have taken many long walks in them. Getting them on and off is a bit of a struggle. The reason I'm writing this review is to help you decide whether you need boots with the Vibram Arctic Grip soles. The verdict: I still slip and fall on ice-skating-rink-type ice. My mom did notice that I was walking more sure-footedly than other people on a 32 degree day when a mixture of rain and snow was falling. If you already have a decent pair of boots (as I do - KEEN and ECCO) then you probably don't need these. If you need new boots anyway, get some of these.

The fit, just right. The size, 8M. Not used to wearing ankle boots, so it took sometime to getting used to, about 10 miles. Have worn it for 50 miles trailing, hiking and walking, so far. Make sure to have the right kind of socks to test its true quality, not too thin or too thick, just the med thickness, and preferably ankle length socks. The quality and functionality of the boots are superb! Of course, the Zappos customer service exceptional, knowing that I can truly test out the shoes to my hearts content, in particular, the policy of worry free return; however, these pairs are for keeps. Thank you, for the quality product, and outstanding service!

Sizing felt a little strange. Kind of a boxy shoe. It's very comfortable to walk in, nice cushioning, and very warm in cold weather. I wear heavy socks. Too warm to war in the house. Good lugs on the soles. Have not walked on snow or ice, so can't review that. Can be a challenge to pull on, but I put my foot in twisted at a 90 degree angle to the opening, which works well. Not a stylish shoe, not pretty or fashionable. But it's a keeper because it does what I need it to do, and it's comfortable.

This shoe has good lugged sole. Overall, the shoe feels stiff, not "soft" so is not the most comfortable shoe. It's not pretty, but it's for walking the dog. I ordered 1/2 size up so that I could wear heavy socks, for cold weather walks. Rubs a bit on front of ankle, wearing wool socks. Will wear heavy socks of softer material in future. Am ordering 2 pairs of other brands, as dog-walking boots, and will return these if I find a more comfortable boot.

Holding off on reviewing for the reason I bought these shoes - warmth. Hopefully they live up to their arctic rating, as they are light and stylish for a winter boot. I payed attention to other reviewers and ordered 1/2 size up for an easy on-off and comfortable fit with a bit of room for a thicker sock.

Nice boots, but without a zipper I found them difficult to pull on so decided to return them.

Comically small opening for my size 6 foot. Once I finally got my foot in, they fit perfectly but the small opening cut off my circulation. If the opening didn't feel like a blood pressure cuff, I would have kept them but back they go.
