perfect for cold weather, extremely warm, not too heavy

It was -9 degrees today. This coat is warm without being too bulky.

used it unill now in 10 - 20 degrees and no rain. was warm. comfterball. i'm 6 ft. 175 lb. and avg. size. bought size medium and fit me fine.

Bought this parka as my cold weather coat although it rarely gets cold enough for me to wear it in the part of the country I live in. I am 6 ft 220lbs and I bought the XL size. It fits me quite well. I took it with me on a trip up to Yellowknife, Canada in January. Temperatures averaged around 0 Fahrenheit (it was unseasonably warm during my visit). It was great for hiking and snowmobiling. I have never been cold in this coat! I believe that with some layers this coat will handle just about anything. Considering its size the coat compresses down pretty well in a stuff sack or compression sack for packing. A couple of minor complaints: It could use some more velcro on the sleeves to allow a tighter fit around the wrists. My wife sewed on another couple of inches for me to correct this. The inside chest pocket does not have a pull string or tab on the zipper making it difficult to open and close, particularly with gloves. This too was easily remedied by adding a string. Although I have had no problems with the main front zipper, the only other improvement I could suggest would be to add a larger/beefier one. This might make it a little easier to zip up and perhaps make it more durable. Overall I love this coat and believe it will keep me warm for many winters to come.

I have worn the original North Face McMurdo Parka for many years and it has held up remarkably well. The three weaknesses that it had: zipper failure due to mis-zipping, catching the thin lining in the zipper, and difficulty adjusting the hood when I don't need it fully down around my face, have all been addressed successfully with this new version (see PROS above). The build quality is still superb. I use my parkas under below zero temperatures in high winds with blowing snow both when working hard and when sitting for many hours. I am always warm and anticipate that this latest edition of their parka will serve similarly (given its apparent build quality and the fact that it kept the best design features while addressing the prior weaknesses).

I must say that the coat we purchased exceeded my expectations. The parka is warm, snug and a stylish, perfect fit for the coldest and windiest of days here in New York. Finally, I am proud to own protective wear that both shelters and is sleek.

a great buy. If I had any advice, buy a size that would be snug on you. Very stylish and warm. The hood contains a face mask that is great for high winds.

This is the best cold weather coat I've ever owned and I've had many over the years from different manufacturer's. We are just now getting the weather where this coat shines. The fit is perfect and it's not too bulky. I prefer a winter coat with a little heft to it so this one fills the bill. I have not tried it's rain proof capabilities as it has not been cold however, I have another North Face which I am also reviewing. It's really windproof. I'll be taking many more train photos in the cold weather with this coat. This was one of 2 new North Face jackets/coats that I purchased as a Christmas present to myself.

Finely a warm, good looking coat. I am toasty in 15 degree weather and lovin' it.

This is an amazing jacket! Even tho its a bit costy it keeps you warm at any temprature( as i live in norway where it gets horridly cold in the winters and spring/autumm its guaranteed to keep you varm no mather, while you look stylish! It also dont make you sweat. So its deffinitly worth the price.
