I'm from northern Illinois and it does get pretty cold during the winter. So far this jacket has been great. My only complaint is the pockets have a cloth material that doesn't feel good with very dry hands, kinda feels like a microfiber cloth. Other than that the fitment is great and gives you plenty of room for stretching and sitting. The outter material feels pretty durable. As for sizing I went based off shirt size and it fits perfectly with a little extra room.

Love the light-yet-really-warm feel to it! The Omni-Tech reflective stuff inside looks unnecessarily space-age until you realize it makes the coat half the weight of a comparably-warm wool coat. The outside is nicely water-resistant in a downpour, and the attached hood keeps out the wind and maintains the integrity of the waterproofing. This is my second Columbia jacket in this style, and the only negatives are the things I miss about my old jacket (which cost more and was more snow-centered): --this hood is not detachable --no snow-skirt on the bottom, and there's no elastic fabric built into the sleeve cuffs to keep out the wind --one fewer pocket on the left breast (there's still the outer one, but my old one also had an inner one which has been moved over to the right breast, which is not natural to reach for given I'm right-handed).

This item was a great buy, and product. My son works outdoors in all types of weather. This jacket keeps him warm, and looks great. Truly a great value for price, and Columbias product are ALWAYS a great buy for your money! Love Columbias product. They also have great Fleece Jackets!

Deceptively warm and keeps you dry. For the light weight, it is warmer than i expected on these cold 25 degree commuting mornings. Worn in a heavy rain and everything under the jacket was dry... great value and product.

Bought this jacket as an early Christmas gift for my son. He loves it. It keeps him warm and dry. I knew that I could count on the Columbia brand for a great product. And since it was Christmas time, the price was great too.
