These are probably some of the most comfortable Vans I’ve owned and they look awesome. I also have some Chima Pro 2’s and a pair of Old Skools. Both look great, but they’re both pretty uncomfortable. My flat-footedness should be taken into consideration with this review.

I don’t skate but love the style. Grey is nice and mellow. Subtle sportiness but not as much as a running shoe. I get complements on them. Make sure to Scotch Guard the suede.

My only concern is the sticky sole. Is this sole that wraps around the shoe going to yellow and collect dirt like a magnet because it is so sticky out of the box? Almost as if it melted? I put these on and walked around the house and the sole was sticking to the floor, excessively. Maybe a cleaning/wipe-down will fix this but I have not had the chance to do that yet. Other than that the shoe looks really nice and fits well.

this is not a durable shoe. You have one bad trick on this and you can rip the mesh on the sides and have a hard time getting it back together. With that being said, this is my absolute favorite shoe.
The feel on this shoe is next level. There is no break in time, no stiffness, they come super flexible and ready. I recommend applying shoe goo on the mesh areas prone to ripping for you, i did this in place of shoe breathability as I dont really think that makes a huge difference unless its the middle of the summer.
Aves do have a shank in the middle of the outsole that protects against primo lands which has come in handy.
do not scratch up the mesh you will regret it !!
I like these tight as in maybe a half size down

Everyone's comment say the same thing...too tight and they rip up. Just swap the removable soles for thinner ones and then they fit great n wont rip.

This is my third pair of these shoes. I love this color combo. Lightweight shoe and comfy.

Really cool looking. Worn for everyday casual. Used during workouts and a chill skate session. The soles are a bit gummy, at least at first, so it helps to grip the deck. They are a bit snug. Hoping they will loosen up the more I wear them.

General casual wear, good looking shoe and fits almost perfect, just felt slightly narrow in the mid section but overall a good fit for my size 9.5s. Love the grippy blue colored sole

I was hoping had a little more support and the front part seems faded than the rest. Still like and am using them for work. Love Vans but these are my favorite

Love the shoe. I think it's biggest issue is durability.
Please release the original white with blue sole again, the new color ways are so ugly!

At first the shoe was very tight and stiff. After breaking them in and finding the lacing that fits for me. They are one of the most comfortable and stylish shoes I've owned. Vans doesn't make them in white anymore. Good luck finding them in white.

Once I got the lacing right on the shoes they fit perfectly to my feet. Just want to say they are one of the best shoes I've ever purchased!

These are the most comfortable Vans I have ever owned and I have been wearing Vans since 1986. I have them in a few colors. Only problem I have with them is after a bit of time they smell like cat pee and I don't own a cat.
Vans what is up with the cat pee smell????

Look great. The fit is not snug and feels a little loose on the heel.

Way too skinny and right shoe was far smaller but I’ve never had that issue in the past.

These are really comfortable, especially for Vans (comparing the original, old school models). They look amazing. Not using for skating at this point so can't comment on durability.

I have purchased 3 of these style and absolutely love the look and the comfort. I didn't realize how fatigued my feet were getting in the old school Vans style, but when I wear these my feet feel so good! And board feel is absolutely GREAT. Unfortunately, there is design flaw or materials issue because all 3 pair developed HUGE HOLES in the folding areas of the upper. HUGE HOLES. And this is well ahead of any other wear item on the shoe - the soles are barely 1/2 worn. I cannot recommend this shoe for that reason - especially at the relative high price. I love vans and will continue to purchase and wear them, but this style is not UNRIVALED DURABILITY as the description would tell you. Sorry.

I have bought probably 10 pairs of the ave pro, love the look and comfort on this shoe, but after 6months of normal use, the side mesh rips apart.

The shoes are really great and would be incredibly comfy but they are rather tight. I have had many pairs of Vans and I'm always a 9.5 in men's. I should've gotten a 10. I tried to make it work for a while, but the shoes just aren't stretching out after a few dozen miles in them. I'm going to have to donate my pair and buy another in a 10 because the shoes are fantastic, just the sizing is off.

No shoe is perfect especially at this price point... though I'd be pretty upset if I paid full price on these.
That said, I want to cover the pros and cons of my purchase
Disclaimer: I am NOT a skater. I buy Vans because they are flatter and I can feel the ground better ("board feel" I believe is the term). I appreciate this for every day use but especially for my job. Sometimes I'm on ladders and I hate being on clunky clumsy running shoes, even though I do prefer their more flexible & breathable uppers.
That said, I was attracted to the Ave because of its mesh paneling. I know cotton canvas is breathable but they seem to hold onto sweat rather than just let it evaporate. I find them to "stink" more than other materials, and become a complete soggy mess if I was in rain or mud. I prefer synthetic mesh.
Ok, now Pros and Cons
Con:They are very snug. I ALWAYS order a half size up because most shoes are too narrow for my wider feet. Vans are not so bad but I still order a half size up. For the Aves, I had to order a full size up.
Also, I removed the removable insole... It would had suffocated my feet with the insole on, even with a size up. Fortunately, there's built-in cushioning within the Ave model so that suffices. By removing the insole, I obtained better "board feel" akin to regular Vans (I typically wear Old Skools or Eras for casual non-work occassions); however, not as cushy. The Aves definitely felt stiffer in the underfoot.
Con: The upper is not very comfortable. It's very stiff and sometimes rub against my feet in an irritating and sometimes painful way. Then again , I did order a size up; however, comparing it to my Old Skool that is only a half size up (compared to a whole size up), they are nearly identical; the Ave being surprisingly only 1mm longer and practically the same width.
Pro: The lockdown is very good and accomplishes this, at least for me, without rubbing the back of my heel, which many of the Pro models do to me; for example, the Old Skool Pros for some reason rub the back of heels; however, regular Old Skools do not (the back is lower & more comfortable).
Con: There is a moderate break-in time unlike traditional Vans (which I feel like only takes a day or two, if not instantly "broken-in feel"). It took about 2 weeks for these shoes to break in. I can now say the underfoot cushioning is not so stiff and feels more natural, with greater board feel, but still not up to par as my classic Old Skools. The upper is more comfortable too but still not necessarily comfortable.
Pro: the mesh paneling definitely helps with breathability. I approve
Pro: the tongue is attached to the shoe so the tongue doesn't bunch down when wearing them, like classic Old Skools. That's the one thing that drives me CRAZY about Old Skools. I wish the Pro version (which has an attached tongue) was more comfortable and had a lower heel.
Pro: the easiest Vans to slip-on. The heel cup is rigid which helps keep the shoe in place as you slide your feet in. I typically have to wrestle a tiny bit to slip-on, even w/ my favorite Vans, but the Ave is seamless.
Initial impressions: 1/5 stars. I was immediately regretting the purchase; however, I gave them a chance because finding some breathable skate shoes are hard; and though there are a handful of skate shoes that utilize mesh, its typically the more rugged, less breathable type of mesh. Ave's mesh is on the thinner side so perhaps that's a con, that it may be less durable, but I don't know; I've had no issues (though I don't skate). Nonetheless, the thinner mesh is very breathable which I appreciate.
How this shoe could be improved? IDK what this new design is all about w/ the underfoot cushioning but I don't care for it whatsoever. I find classic more comfortable and with better board feel. Another improvement, replace the stiff uncomfortable "smooth' leather (feels like synethic leather but not sure) and replace it with suede. I think suede is more flexible and comfortable in comparison.
The rubber outsole is grippy and I've always appreciated Vans for that. Surprised its as grippy w/o being "gum" which I've read is grippier than other variations of rubber (but don't take my word for it). However, the outsole, who knows why but its EXTREMELY slippery when wet.... so I don't know, perhaps develop a formula where it's not so darn slippery when wet. Walking outside to inside, or getting morning dew on your shoes right before climbing a ladder, is like BAM! ice skating! But fortunately for me, I'm usually inside and dry... so I'll keep wearing these shoes.

Unusually tight and narrow, mainly around the toes and front half of the foot. These should be advertised as an extra narrow shoe because it is unusually narrow.
