It's warm and compact! Not super warm but good in rain! I'm 5'3 and 105 lbs. I bought an XS and can still fit layers underneath !

I want to love this jacket. The purple color is awesome and I got it on sale. Was excited about 800 fill power down but the number only matters of you know what the gram weight is. The jacket is very thin and light and definitely packable, but it’s just not very warm. Walked around outside a while at 33 degrees with my heaviest (A thick Kuhl) fleece under it and I could feel cool breezes. I don’t expect it to be a stand-alone jacket at this temp in the Rockies, but a tee + thick fleece + a good down layer should be sufficient at an above freezing temp. Also, the zipper feels a bit flimsy to me. I expect more for a jacket at this price point. Fit wise, I can wear medium but got large to layer under and it is roomy without being too ginormous. Great jacket for 40 degrees and up, or maybe as a mid layer with a good tech shell over it, but I wouldn’t choose a hooded jacket for that purpose.

So I searched and searched for a jacket this season I live in northern Michigan and it gets pretty chilly. I went to multiple local shops but couldn't find this brand to try on for sizing so I winged it and ordered a small. For reference I am 5' tall and my weight bounces from 117-120 pounds and I'm a 36 D. This jacket fits like a glove when I'm just wearing a t-shirt or long sleeve. But also fits perfectly with a hoodie without making me look frumpy! I'm not sure how it does it to be honest lol. I was worried about the "garbage bag" looking material, but in person its perfectly fine. Its not super shiny but not like matte. It's a perfect in between. I am one to ALWAYS be cold. So this year I was really on the hunt for a good jacket I could take out steelhead fishing on the boat but also be versatile enough to wear everyday. Ladies if you are one to be cold all the time THIS IS YOUR JACKET! I have not complained about being cold once since I've bought it! It feels like it knows your body temp perfect to be quite honest. Not too hot but warm enough. Now I do really love this jacket and especially since I caught it at a good deal, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have a couple flaws.
CONS:
-I wish the logo was on the chest area and not the sleeve (but I guess that's just personal preference)
-I have had several threads/stitching come loose that I've had to cut. Just little ones but still at the price of this you expect the best quality.
-Theres no pocket on the inside. (again personal preference)
-NOW my BIGGEST pet peeve of all... the FEATHERS!! You wouldn't believe the amount of feathers I loose from this thing! I have black cloth seats in my 4runner, and when I get out there is ALWAYS at least a dozen feathers stuck to my seat. My husband also has a down jacket from a competitor brand and he doesn't have this problem so it does make me worry a smidge.
OVERALL: I really hope this lasts me a while because I really do love the jacket and the warmth. I tried on quite a few and did tons of research before deciding on this one. But the warmth really is a huge important factor for me. I think I'm most impressed with that. I hope this helps someone else on the hunt :)

This jacket is best for temperatures between 28-50 degrees fahrenheit. For lower temperatures, a base layer works. I have not had a problem with the material tearing when I hike through brush/thorns. If I had a wish list for improvement it would be for an interior/exteror zippered breast pocket and perhaps to handle slightly lower temperatures. Overall I love this jacket and the fact they use recycled/responsibly sourced materials.

For reference I am 5'10", 145 lbs with a slim/ athletic build and ordered size Medium.
The bad: I so desperately wanted this jacket to work as it would have rounded out my sub-10 lb base-weight so perfectly. But, alas, I also experienced that awkward tight-armpit phenomenon that others reference. I am puzzled by this fit, as the arm length was plentiful, and width (both in the arms and body) was generous- to the point of being borderline too large/boxy/busty. I understand that this width accommodates layering, but nothing accommodates layering when you're binding in the shoulders and armpits. Length in the body is just barely long enough, and I imagine that while sizing up to a large may improve the length/ armpits, it would render the jacket so loose, that it would drastically decrease the garment's thermal efficiency.
The good: This jacket is light- as air and incredibly packable. The non- adjustable hood is perfectly designed to be snug and windproof, while also able to accommodate a hat or extra layer and not blind your peripheral vision. The lightweight elastic drawstring at the waist has a fantastic integrated toggle, and does exactly what it needs to do- simply and efficiently. If your build is slightly shorter with more narrow/average shoulders, look no further than this jacket!
Finally, this is an ULTRALIGHT jacket! Some reviewers have complained about the crinkle and shine of the fabric. If you want ultralight performance, you're going to have a crinkly, shiny jacket. It's just the nature of the technology at this point. I would advise you to not worry too much about style in the backcountry, and remind you that everyone will be crinkling away on their Neo-air sleeping pads anyway!

I've had this jacket for several years now and as much as I like it, it's also a huge disappointment in the following ways: delicate fabric (I have patched it numerous times) and hemorrhages feathers, especially on the arms, & no cinch feature in the hood. If you just think about coming in contact with a branch, or maybe some rocks, this thing develops a hole. And the same can be said for feathers - it started losing feather the first month I had it. It's a shame we don't see more welded seam construction because every place there is a stitch a feather finds its way out. I'm tempted to get another one though because the fit is good and it's a decent little lightweight down jacket. If you plan on casual town wear it probably will do just fine, I use my jackets for everything - hiking, walking, doing outside chores and so on - admittedly, I am probably pretty taxing on my clothes - I don't worry about getting dirty if the need arises. This jacket looks like a patchwork piece - lots of tenacious tape and featherless baffles. I also think it could use a small pocket tucked inside - like a reverse napoleon pocket. FYI: the zipper is a little brat.

Love this jacket feels like you are wearing a pillow. Super warm, super light.
It is fragile. Definitely not for bushwhacking, but perfect for chilling at the campsite. I haven't ripped it yet but i am terrified too.
I agree with previous reviewers that it fits small in the armpits, chest, hips. I'm smol so it fits my well but definitely try it on in store (other retailers sell it) before buying your size.
If you want to wear thick layers underneath, size up.

I am 5'5" tall, 120lb and a size medium fits me really well. This is my favorite jacket in terms of comfort. However, the material is really fragile. I have never had any of my other jackets tear but this one got a tear right away while closing the gate at a dog park. The outer material is very thin and it will likely tear if it snags on a branch.

I read a lot of reviews, compared a lot of down jackets out there and landed on this one as the best. Had everything I was looking for: excellent warmth/weight ratio, packs down well, etc. Was so excited to make this an addition to my to my backcountry snowboarding gear. Unfortunately the medium fit way too tight in the shoulders, prohibiting full range of motion (layering underneath definitely not an option). Tried to sizing up to the large or even extra-large but the tight fit in the shoulders remained while the torso became increasingly too loose. I hope Mountain Hardwear tweaks how they scale up their sizes in the future. I have slightly broad shoulders but not THAT broad. If you are a woman with an athletic build I would recommend trying this on in a store first if you can before purchasing.

A year ago reviews noted the tight armpits on this jacket and obviously Mountain Hardware has NOT listened to its customers as they are still too tight! And I am a small, slight person. There were also several feathers coming out which again is a long-standing issue. I am a jacket enthusiast who owns way too many and honestly this one's not worth the price. Very disappointed.

Poor fit and inferior quality. Armholes are too tight so the skimpy amount of down compressed after wearing it only twice. It looks terrible now. I really like the fit otherwise, but I can't wear it around town now. It looks dirty.

This jacket tears very easily. It is meant to go under jackets, so if you plan to where it on its own, it likely won't last. Do not recommend buying.
