I just bought my second GW. My first lasted 5 years and is still actually going strong except my dog tore a slit in it and I am losing down. I would agree that it can be fragile but I have backpacked with it continually and I am not very careful with my gear. It has never torn on branches and I even did a tumble into a cactus patch while wearing it and the jacket came out unscathed (I did not). so not sure I would call it very fragile. I love the fit and the look. It is not too puffy - no marshmallow man look. It keeps me warm in temps low 40's and I layer if colder. It packs down so small in my pack and it weighs NOTHING. I can't say enough good things about this jacket. Proof is I bought it again and love my new one too!

Incredibly warm and light. Medium fits well (I have a small frame but large shoulders). I do wish the sleeves had a little more stretch in the wrist as they're a bit loose and I imagine that will be a little drafty. Love the color and very lightweight. Worth the price IMO. The medium weighs 193 grams.

Extremely warm puffy jacket that fits well and isn't too loud (fabric noise). I liked it so much that I purchased a second jacket. One missing feature is a zippered chest pocket. Great jacket!

This jacket is my go to at temps 32' to 40. It is so light. Slightly fitted. I am 5'5" and 135 and the Medium fits fine with a light sweater. Can add a baselayer. Sleeves long enough. I am gentle on the zips.

I can't speak highly enough about this jacket! It's the perfect light weight coat for the woods, backpacking, camping, or just around town. This is my go to coat and I've convinced almost my entire family to get one also! Also easy to wipe off when muddy paws get all over it.

Love this jacket, as it is the second one I have purchased. I love it for fall and spring chilly days and it packs perfect for backpacking trips.

Xmas gift to my daughter, she will absolutely love. Fit is perfect including fitting inside shell and enough room for a baselayer. I use my ghost whisperer on all my trips where a trechnical puffy is needed. It absolutely is my favorite even more so than my EE Torid Apex jacket, a name I can never remember.

This is my third jacket from mountain hardware. I purchased my first one in Colorado on a ski trip. I was hooked. I bought a vest and another jacket recently and I wear them everyday.

Fit runs a little small or snug. Second one to own.

I bought the original which was reversible. Great jacket but beware as the thin material easily gets holes in it. Then bought the next edition, but the price was more and the fill less.

This is really a 3.5. Love the fact that this jacket is super light weight. Also love the color (mystic purple, which is sort of a silver gray). But, hate the fact that the fit is a bit odd. The medium is a bit too big and the small is tiny. I kept the medium, but feel a bit like I'm swimming in it. If t had not been so light weight, I probably would have returned it.

I got this jacket a year ago. I love it forlayering and for travel. My only complaint is the zipper catches cloth about 50% of the time. I would have returned it but i didn't want to go without it. I just try to be very careful when i zip it.

I've had a ghost whisperer that I wear daily (in my house! - I am always cold) for maybe the last 5 years. I decided to buy a second to wear out. The warmth of the new one is INCREDIBLE, the fit is good (the neck may be slightly higher? I prefer the lower neck of my old one). However I'll be returning this one because I'm not a fan of the green color. On the website it looks super neutral, olive or camo green, dark-ish. In real life it's a somewhat lighter green, very shiny, and it just won't be as versatile color-wise as I hoped. FYI for sizing, 5'8 120ish#, XS fits great. Would love if you'd make this in other neutral colors and possibly without so much shine?

After a lot of research, I ordered this and the Torsun shell. I like both of them except for 2 things, both of which have to do with the fact that I am well-endowed. 1) The pockets are placed higher than on any jacket I've ever owned. I have no idea why Mountain Hardwear places their pockets so high, but I hope they read this review and re-think that. On the Ghost Whisperer, if I have the jacket zipped closed, it literally looks like the zipper toggles are hanging from my boobs. I like to keep a pair of liner gloves in one pocket and a beanie in the other pocket. Because the pockets are placed so high, I end up with the bulge that the gloves and hat make right under my boobs, instead of down closer to my waist like in all the jackets I've ever owned before. 2) The chest is a little tight. With a thin Icebreaker base layer on, I can zip the Ghost Whisperer, and zip the Torsun on over the Ghost Whisperer. But if I had anything heavier on as a base layer, it would be really tight. Even though I am only 5 3 1/2" tall, I did order XL in both because of my big chest, yet I still experienced both of these problems. I like everything else about them, but am considering returning them for the pocket issue.

Lightweight, packable, warm and versatile for all your backcountry needs, but the Ripstop fabric is EXTREMELY fragile - I've had 4 tears in 6 months, including one from running the sleeve against part of a vehicle's storage compartment, which wasn't even that sharp. I have a synthetic puffy from another well-known outdoor retailer that has held up better for more than a year. Purchased in "Icelandic" colour, which looked blue on the website, but turned out to be more green.

Too terrible After wearing it for less than two months, there are two places where the thread has opened, and it has not been washed. The quality is really bad. My other light down jackets have not been opened for five or six years. I will no longer consider buying mountain hardwear in the future.
