Used the fit guide, measured my head to be 58cm, chose the LXL size. When I tried it on the hat was so big I could pull it down over my ears and it was not tight to my head. I was really disappointed because the hat was very lightweight and the feel of the wool was a new and nice experience. I have seen other reviews saying the SM size was also too big so I'm a little hesitant to try that.

Nice looking cap but S/M size is too large needs to have a form of adjustment designed in (like most other caps do)

I normally struggle to find hats or caps for my big 60cm head and was l was very much looking forward to this LXL cap which according to the size chart is suitable for 58/60cm size heads. The cap arrived OK, but it is way way too big and any wind will just blow it off. It is so large I could spin it around my head with the lightest of touch or if I dip my head it would fall off. There is a lighweight elastic hem on the cap but this doesn't seem to reduce the hat size or add much needed grip or live up to the "self adjusting" fit. Unfortunately, there is no visible size adjustment to allow tightening according to the wind or head size so this is impossible to function as an outdoor hat. Also, the cap seems lighter than expected and although made of wool, it is quite thin. One more thing is that there is no loop on the hat or any way to attach it to a backpack. Would make a great hat for indoor social occasions but not really up to wearing outside in real world conditions IMHO.

Over the past couple years I've owned 3 of these hats in various colors. In regards to fit, build construction, materials, and brim shape, this is my favorite hat of all time. Because of the wool it stays relatively odor free and also doesn't stain very easy compared to other hats that are full synthetic. Sadly the elastic headband just does not hold up. After a couple of months the elastic stretches out and fits loose compared to new, (which in windy conditions is a problem). Every other aspect of the hat is almost perfect and should remain unchanged, but the materials for the headband need an update. If that problem was fixed I could happily keep these hats for years.

It fit well and looked great for about 2 months. Now the elastic is weak and it hardly fits.

This hat fits my head perfectly. I prefer a low crown and this is very close to that. the FATAL FLAW is that the finish of the seam of the front panel of the cap created a knot that presses dead center of your forehead. For me if leaves a sore red indentation on my forehead. It would be better if it were a solid panel with no seam OR the seams were flatter at the finish.

Was given this hat last Christmas, it was great at first, comfy, fit well and looks good overall. I have worn it quite a bit, but now the elastic in the hat is totally shot and the cap is now too loose to be worn anymore. I have a s/m so it's not that I need a smaller size, it was snug before and now feels like I need to pinch the material on the band to get it to fit snug enough anymore and the hat doesn't sit properly on my head, it always ends up off to the side or something. Unfortunate this happened because I love the hat otherwise.

The hat is solidly constructed. However, after about 2 months of wear, the internal elastic headband has become rippled/ stretched adversely affecting the ability for the hat to stay on in windy conditions and causing discomfort while wearing.

I just bought two for myself and unfortunately have to return them both. The sizing is much larger than every other L/XL fitted cap I own. The hat itself is very nice.

I bought this hat in black and loved it so much, I bought 2 more. After 1-2 months of use, all three stretched out a bit but were still wearable. After them sitting for 6 months during the warmer months, all three are now unwearable because they are so big. It seems the elastic basically gave out over time - there's not much that can be done.

I have 2 of the XL hats and they fit like different brands' caps. I wish the sizing was more consistent.

I've owned a few other arcteryx hats and they've fit well however this hat fits too deep on my head and comes down over my ears. I can't wear it

Like the original poster of a review with a similar title (which I've liberally plagiarized), I too owned one of these until a few months ago. It, too, was my favorite hat, and I got lots of compliments on it. I lost mine while traveling, too (in my case, a rushed departure to the airport while I was battling a virus). I enjoyed the hat so much I went straight to the source and bought a new one here on the site. Unfortunately the hat newly delivered by arc'teryx is a shadow of the former comfort and quality of it's original and is still sold at the same price. I should have read the other reviews and realized that the brand is cutting corners on quality. The material seems to be a lighter weight, and the "heathering" in the Black Heather is non-existent. It's now just a lightweight black wool ball cap with a cool logo. I truly hope you'll bring back the original.

In a sad moment of rushing through holiday travel, I forgot it at a TSA checkpoint and it was gone when I went back to look for it. Tuition in the school of life, right? My son has the Arcteryx wool ball cap that is described in this listing and it is the most comfortable wool ball cap. It is stretchy (Flexfit) and large enough to wear a thin beanie or helmet liner under. It is composed of 77% wool, 22% nylon, 1% elastane. Since I liked it so well, my wife bought me one for Christmas. Like one of the other reviewers said, it is not the same hat. The one that I received, and that has Wool Ball Cap on the label, is L/XL but will not fit on my bare head, much less over a liner. It is 40% polyester, 29% wool, 19% silk, 7% acrylic, and 5% other fibers. It does not stretch at all. If the model changed so drastically, why hasn't the web page description been updated? Is it going to be renamed Polyester Ball Cap since that is now the primary fabric?

It said on the product description that the hats were adjustable back and all three I ordered came as fitted hats. Disappointing as none of them fit

How do you manage to do it? The S-M is way too small and the L-XL is way too large! Don't buy this hat. I tried them both and returned.

Nice design and materials, however the elastic lining on the inside is to large making it wrinkly and very uncomfortable on the forehead. It may be a one off, but probably not.

I bought this like a year ago and have only worn it once, it is so big I can't wear it anywhere cause it slides down my head. For reference I am 6'2" and am generally large and purchased a size S/M yet it's still so so big on me. I tried hat spacers and that just makes it look like a football helmet.
