A little big for s/m but overall a quality product

I really love this hat, except it doesn't fit. I have a pretty large mellon and I always need XL head stuff. I got the L-XL size and it floats on my head. I tried washing, heating, boiling water, hair drier, even microwaving to get it to shrink but it's still like a bag on my head. I'm probably going to try the S-M size just because I like the hat so much, but I can't imagine that it will fit.

I wear this hat all winter except for the coldest and snowiest days. It get a break in the summer time. I lost it once between season. I quickly replaced upon noticing. My head size is in the overlap range that supposed fits into both hats. I bought the s-m and it fits perfectly. Not tight at all. As other have commented it fits larger.

Bought this as a gift for my boyfriend. He loves it...wish there was an option for a "small," as he isn't a large guy, and the S/M is still a tad bit big. That being said, it's a well-made, comfortable hat (or so he tells me).

I purchased this cap for a few reasons. Flex-fit instead of adjuster. Added warmth with the wool blend. And, of course, the branding. Love it. Like so many other reviews this cap fits large. I'm a medium in helmets so I ordered the S/M. Well, if my head was a millimeter smaller the cap would sit over my ears. I'll see if growing my hair out a bit makes for a better fit.

Looks good in Navy Heather. Fit (size L-XL) is bit tight for my 61.5 cm head but not overly so. Material is o.k. weather resistant and keeps my head warm in temperatures around 0 C. Being bald I find the the material (29% wool) slightly ithcy.

Overall, the cap looks and feels very nice. At first, I felt like it was sitting a bit low over the ears, almost pushing down on them, but I've gotten used to the fit and it feels very secure. The finish is quite nice - looks pretty smart with just about anything. Maybe keeps a tad bit more warmth in than a standard cotton cap, but not by much. In other words, it's pretty comfortable no matter what the temps are.

Great cap and nice for winter usage due to the woolen material. The fit is slightly large, especially behind in the top of the head at the back. I usually fit L/XL in flexfit caps and chose this size for this as well, as the S/M was quite tight. The smaller size did, however, fit a little bit better on top of the head.

Great flexfit hat. Hard to find them in wool. Logo looks good, not too flashy. Only gripe is the flex band comes together right at the back of the cap and its not quite sewn down. So small bump where the pieces meet unless you do something about it. Fix that Arcteryx! That flex band should be perfect. Cost you a star.

Sizing is not great. It is too large for the "size". L/XL is huge. (Should be my size) S/M is tight. (Hoping it will stretch)

I bought this to replace an older version that went missing. I love this new green color much better than the Navy I had before, but this one is 1/4-1/2" bigger in size S/M. I don't want to return it, so I guess I'll have to find a way to modify the not very "flex"fit. My Pret snowboard helmet is Adult Medium (55 - 59 cm), my Giro bicycle helmet Adult Small (51-55 cm), so I don't think I'm that far off a mainstream fit - probably a 55 cm. But this is definitely LOOSE out of the box. I wouldn't trust it to stay on in windy conditions - the tops of my ears fit inside! Otherwise a great hat, though. Loved my old one.

This hat is wonderful. Warm and well made. However, I usually wear a size Large baseball hat. This size L/XL hat is entirely too big to fit me.

Nice hat, great quality but sizing is a problem - L/XL runs large. In hindsight, the small bird hat is better with its adjustable, one-size fits all fit.

You need to size down! I'm 6'4" and 210 pounds with I guess an average size head. Have purchased many hats online from Patagonia, Black Diamond, etc. with no issues on fit. I ordered a size Lg/XL, and the hat was so large that it spun around on my head. I sent it back and ordered the size small/medium. This one fits snugly but will work. I'm only marking down due to the hassle factor of having to send the first hat back then having to purchase another. Otherwise, this will be a good hat.

Love this hat and the quality of it. Tried one on in store and the fit was perfect. At that point I had to have one, so I ordered the color I desired almost immediately. Unfortunately the one I received is too big for me, really disappointing, yet I'm reluctant to return it because I really do love the hat.

It is very nice looking in the anecdote Heather color but I wish Arcteryx had better fitting hats or more sizes. This is third experience I've had with a brimmed arc cap where it was either sized for a tiny human or just awkwardly large.

Arc'teryx describes this cap as being for 'around town' which in my opinion is spot-on. It's a well put together ball cap that happens be made out of a wool blend. If you were hoping for a cap with more of a functional outdoor focus I think the 5-panel cap may be the superior option. On the positive side, the cap is comfortable to wear and has noticeably better weather resistance compared to a traditional ball cap. The wool blend material is pleasant to the touch with a rougher exterior but smooth interior. With the exception of the awful squatchee, the FlexFit makes for a slick snag-free design. The cap runs large and deeper then expected, but at least for me comfortably so. I like my caps to fit a bit lower down on the head. And as a brisk weather hat, the increased coverage is nice. I really appreciated the more subdued branding and colorway options. It's still noticeably a dead bird product but without 'Arc'teryx' in bright letters running across your forehead. The Anecdote Heather colorway having a particularly nice subdued look even if it's a bit darker than I expected. The overt branding is a big reason why I passed on the 5-panel cap. My biggest criticism of the cap is the absolutely terrible use of a squatchee. That's the little metal button on the top of the cap. Modern ball caps don't need them. It's purely for looks and headaches. I get that many end users don't have to worry about interfacing with ear protection or communications equipment, but it's still a snag/bump hazard in outdoor activities. And it's not unheard of for people to wear headphones when wandering 'around town.' Pretty much every outdoor focused ball cap doesn't include a squatchee. Including Arc'teryx's own BAC Cap. Admittedly the squatchee is shown in the product pictures, I just didn't see it when I purchased on mobile. So it's inclusion did not factor into my review score. But it does mean that I'm unlikely to use it for any of my professional work. My other criticism is the plastic stiffeners found at the front of the crown. It makes it so that it doesn't quite fit as nicely on the head as I would like. In my opinion, the stiffeners are unnecessary and don't add an meaningful benefits to the cap. Hopefully they'll soften with time Lastly, I think there is a lot of value to a billed wool (blend) cap for a wide range of outdoor activities. I think with a few design adjustments this could make for a spectacular choice. If Arc'teryx were to make an improved or even a hypothetical LEAF version, the removal of the squatchee and plastic crown stiffeners would make for an immensely more useful hat. I also think it would be beneficial to consider a longer brim. The dead bird cap has the standard ball cap brim length of 2" it's been my experience that a 3" brim is really well suited for serious outdoor use. tlThe length adds more protection from the elements without being intrusive and in a pinch will protect the face. Just food for thought.
