I collect Arc'teryx catalogues since 1998, I saw this backpack listed since 2003 or 2001. This pack is a classic from Arcteryx like the Alpha SV or Beta Ar. It is outstanding in different ways. For example, versatility, I carry my 15' laptop without problems, thousand of hiking days, trekking around the Andes and North America. This pack has survived almost everything. The science behind the quality of the fabric is just one of their good qualities. It is a bombproof. The key behind his longevity is the simplicity of his design. It is not just a "simple" pack. It is THE PACK.

Last year, I finally decided to splurge and to replace my trusted long-time go-to backpack, a 2010 35L Cierzo (I know, I know, this pack was never meant to be used for work, daily errands, short trips, etc., but I found it to be a versatile and reliable workhorse--it still is, but not on a day-to-day basis). Enter the Arro. I had to get used to the size--my previous minimalist pack was bigger and did not have a rigid back panel and the like--but I was quickly convinced by the fit, the construction, the materials. When I am on my bike on my way to work, and it is raining--yes, I know the Granville might also be used for this purpose--the pack seamlessly blends with my back and also looks the part. I also know all the stuff that I need for work (or other contexts) will not only fit, but also be protected from the elements. I have not had this pack for as long as some of the other reviewers here, but given the construction and materials, I expect it to last for a long time. While it is not cheap, the price, I know, will be, a few years down the road, more that reasonable given its numerous strengths. If it is to be revised--and I am not sure whether this necessary, a light interior (as in the Alpha alpine packs) would be wonderful. A sleeve for a laptop or other bigger electronic device (see, again, Granville) might be a good idea, too, although I have to say that I have experienced no issue with my devices and are not concerned that they might be damaged during everyday use. (The bottom part of the pack is sturdy, too, and offers some protection, albeit not too much.)

I had the smaller 17 version of this pack when it first released. Must be ten years ago at least. It has a very attractive and sleek appearance but I am surprised to see it described now as an urban pack because I have used it very extensively for skiing, kayaking trips in Scandinavia, day hiking and general travelling- and in all conditions. It is highly durable and weatherproof, and has suffered no signs of wear and hardly any fading of colour. The internal size is good, and despite it being a small pack the side mesh pockets easily hold and retain water bottles. One of the best pieces of equipment I have ever purchased. One minor downside is that the front zip pocket narrows towards the bottom, but that's no big deal. I won't be surprised if it lasts another ten years!

I've had so many bags in my life, and this is by far my favourite for daily commuting. It was one of the few things in my life this expensive that I have been willing to pay full price. I have used for 2 years and the colour is still strong and the fabric feels great and has retained 90% of its shape. It conforms to my back wonderfully and makes doesn't feel like a cumbrance when wearing. Waterproofing is a perfect balance of breathability and protection. The only issue I have had is that the bottom of the bag that curves around your back has started to develop asynchronous shaping. (see photo) But because it fits so well still and conforms to my back beautifully (I don't know what some of these other reviews are referring to with "bad design") that I am willing to overlook it; although deep down I wonder how perfect it would be if those had retained their shape. I also think outdoors companies need to stop plastering their logo blatantly on everything. The visual form of the piece should be enough to let me know who made it.

If you live in the city, this is the one bag you need. I use this bag to hold my laptop, notebooks, pens, hardshell, wallet, and other accessories. I have walked miles in this rain without and water leaking in. On the bike, the bag sits close to the body even through the sharpest turn. The straps are padded with thick foam that quickly move sweat away from the body. The straps are comfortable enough to wear the bag fully loaded for hours without fatigue. The front kangaroo pocket allows for easy access frequently used items like headphones, wallet, and metro card. The durability of the bag is beyond reproach. I have been using it daily for a year and see ZERO signs of wear.

Rugged, convenient, very comfortable, and stylish, this backpack has it all. I especially like the generous kangaroo pocket and the two separate designs for the exterior side pockets (one is ideal for keys, energy parts, etc. and the other is ideal for a good size water bottle). I find the hydration system is a bit hard to work (the hole for the hose is tight) but that's a minor issue.

I've had my Arro for 14 years. Yes you read that right. The main zipper is starting to have issues, but otherwise it has performed flawlessly all over the world. It's a bit lacking interior pockets/organizers, but otherwise I wouldn't hesitate recommending it very highly. Being so old it's made in Canada, but hopefully the new ones are equally good.

As expected, nothing but he best. I'm 6'4" and use a camelbak pouch with my bag on trails. The bag is large but fits snug like a turtle shell on my back. Very comfortable

Excellent backpack for everyday use, or even one day hikes. I often use it to carry 14" laptop and also dlsr with just enough space to fit hardshell and all the other EDC things. There are also two side pockets, which I usually use just for small things that can get wet in case it rains. In general the pack looks small, but just a little bit of skill you can pack quite a load of things in it. Materials are top notch and overall it feels very solid and almost indestructible. The outer shell is thick and waterproof so rain is not a problem - all the things in main pocket stay nicely dry. What I really like is the shoulder padding which makes carrying it pure joy.

Today was the first day i used the Arro 22. It is pouring down rain and everything inside stayed dry during a 1 hour commute. The pack is much lighter than I expected and fits great. The outside pockets could be a little deeper to handle the taller (Hydro Flask) water bottles.

I fell in love with this bag after a single day. It has everything I need and more. There is enough space to fit a 15" laptop (although there is no desighned sleeve it still fits nicely in the bag), there are two seperate compartments one being water proof and the other having drainage holes to let water escape if it ever became flooded. The thermaformed back is unbelievably comfortable, that along with the extremely sturdy shoulder straps allows you to carry the weight for long periods of time without getting sore. The bag is also ridiculously tough I have used it for a year now and it still looks in perfect condition with no rips what so ever. There is also a hydration pouch that I have yet to use, but it is a nice bonus. Finally the design of the bag is beautiful, I have received many compliments on it and I love the blend between city style and outdoor practicality, that I find all Arc'teryx products to posses.

Took this pack across the US for day hicks and city adventures. Very good quality and the flexibility to use whatever bladder you want is a great feature. I also like the fact it is simple without all of the straps and unnecessary pockets that other packs have.

I have owned this pack for close to 4 years now. It's been used for commuting on the train, as a laptop bag when flying, day pack for outdoor trips, and most recently, as a purse/diaper bag. While the latest use is, admittedly, too tame for it's origins, the sheer indestructibility of this bag is why it was nominated for the task of everyday use. After over a year of service in it's latest assignment, it still preforms admirably. In over 4 years, the only thing to damage it was suspension by it's top pocket zipper pull. As the zipper pull is only rubber, under the full weight of the bag it split. Easily replaced by a length of cord. I think the reason I LOVE this bag, apart from it's good looks and wonderful performance, is it's comfort. Even after a full day of toting it around, filled to the rafters with whatever I deemed important at the time, it's still comfortable to wear. Books, laptops, water... My shoulders never felt the weight like any other backpack I have used. Mine is still far from retirement so there was no use for a second, until I told my husband one day how much I loved it... Time for a new one for me while I generously loan mine out I think. ;) This bag is yet another reason to love this brand. Simply put, they are unparalleled.

I have owned 2 arro 16 and 1 - 20. I wish they made the 16 as it was a perfect city day pack - 99% waterproof- indestructae and excellent load carrying. I have worn it climbing- biking- boarding almost every activity outside and inside. Well not EVERY inside activity. Seriously the absolute best day pack you can buy. PLEASE BRING BACK THE 16 and I'll by another 2!!!

Better conception with the internal pouch for laptop and the zipping system. Will check for the longevity because I hold the previous one only for 5 years and zipping system broke.

The backpack carries comfortably and feels very well made. The front zipper compartment is very useful to store smaller items. It could however use some form of subdivision to create more order in the compartment. The main compartment works well, but it can be a struggle to fully make use of the space available as the top part is kind of narrow which blocks extra load while there is still space. Overall very happy with the bag!
