Hello From Kansas!!! I just wanted to say I just bought my 3rd pair of Salomon shoes all purchased within the last 6 months....that is how much I LOVE your shoes my first 2 pair were the SpeedCross 3 and today I just received my SpikeCross 5 GTX. I enjoy hiking for fun and have found the SpeedCross 3 to be insanely comfortable, durable and dependable!! I get more compliments about these shoes than any other athletic shoes I've ever owned. I can't wait to see how the SpikeCross 5GTX handles the snow and mainly ice that we get here in Kansas winters. I got the 5 GTX mainly for every day use in the winter because I have a tendency to bite the ice a lot and not for fun haha I am planning on testing the SpikeCross 5 GTX on some hikes this winter also so I can see just how durable they are when really pushed hard. I'm definitely addicted to Salomon and I'm so glad that I spent the extra money to get shoes that I not only love the look and feel of but that will also withstand the elements and my tendency to be mega rough on shoes. One last thing being a female who wears a size 11 women's it's great to finally find true unisex athletic shoes. Women's shoes can tend to run too narrow at times but the Solomon's fit perfectly!! Keep up the great work, you have definitely gotten a die hard Salomon fan on your team!!

Here’s another pair of Solomon hiking shoes that’s extremely comfortable right out of the box. No break in time required. I typically wear a size 9, but always order up 1/2 size to allow more toe room and they’re perfect. I ordered the Spikecross this time because I wanted more grip on the gravelly hills. I’m so happy I did! Plus, they’re gortex so I’m set for rainy season that will hopefully start in November. I highly recommend these!

I wanted to use comfortable shoes for hiking but never knew exactly what to wear. As soon as I tried the SPIKECROSS 5 GTX I realized I had made the right choice. These shoes look and feel great.

The Solomon Speedcross 5s are awesome! Exceptional overall design and construction especially with the GTX model! The new low-profile laminated construction saves weight and it's looks super slick! The new thicker and more durable, better treads are awesome as well, they're way more comfortable and more adaptable when walking on wet tarmac if needed. There is one feature I'd definitely would like to see added to these sneaker and that is there needs to be an additional centered "climbing" shoelace loop in the center of the top portion of the four-foot for a stronger adjustability/hold in the toe-box. Because Solomon have now lengthened and widen the toe-box a little too much, they've slightly overcompensated now. It's simple if you have wide feet get the wide model. I do not. There is exceptional underfoot comfort with good arch support but I would like to see even more arch support in the OrthoLite insoles, and the height of the drop is totaly perfect. If Salomon makes the toe-box any bigger it's going to be too sloppy, as it is already slightly sloppy already for me compared to the Speedcross 3s which I admit were snug. Never had the 4s. The Speedcross 5 GTXs are by far the best Outdoor Gore-Tex Sneakers on the market! I am the one that requested Salomon to bring GTX / Gore-Tex model here to the States, so thank you Salomon :) I'd like to see the toe-box shortened by 1 or 2 mm as well as the 1 or 2 mm in the width, as the toe-box has become a bit too sloppy now. In years past with some of the complaining about the toe-box being too narrow Salomon has now overcompensated to much unfortunately, but the design and construction is excellent! I have now purchased three pairs because I like them so much, I would just like to have the toe-box slightly tweaked/decreased by 1 to 2 mm a bit. It would be cool to see this exact same upper with midsole with a hybrid tread geared for slippery tarmac conditions, and also a mid version with some ankle support. GearFreakNY Approved!

I went through multiple brands & shoes before I tried these. I walk/run on unmaintained trails that are rocky, with sharp edges (such as shale/slate). I put approximately 6 miles a day on them, & have had them for several weeks now. They have supreme grip even in the most unforgiving slopes, grades, & grounds. The picture of my outsole is after 3 weeks/125 miles, & as you can see, the tread is holding up well, especially considering the environment/conditions I run in. The spikes add grip & stability where I used to slip on the terrain, which adds confidence when running along uneven terrain! If there's a downside to the spikes, it's clearly stated in the shoe's description, which's they're in no way meant for walking on asphalt/concrete, so if you need to traverse solid ground to get to your trailhead, have a plan to swap footwear. Great overall shoe, & I would highly recommend for an everyday user who has had difficulty finding shoes that will hold up to harsher environments!

After several years of missing the boat in the fall, I finally remembered to buy some spikecross runners back in September before they sold out. I run 7 days a week, 12 months a year, on dirt roads in Vermont. That translates into at least 3-4 months of daily running in spikes, as the dirt roads are glare ice for those 3 months. Usually I buy trail shoes that fit my foot and then I twist spikes into them. That's a good solution for me but reviews on Spikecross were excellent and I faithfully wear Salomon nordic boots so thought I'd give them a try. 1st day out: glare icy roads with a skim-coat of sand over top = skating, not running. Spike cross performed beautifully. Good traction there and I also veered off onto a woods trail for a test. Again, beautiful traction. I was feeling supremely happy and satisfied that I finally found pre-drilled spiked shoes that worked for me until mile 4. Perhaps the shoe doesn't give enough in the toe box because of the gore-tex or wrap-style build, but my big toe began to scream in pain at the ball of my foot and joint?? Next day I decided to donn my old shoes and had no problems. I'll try again with the Salomons, but I'm feeling like perhaps the toe box is too narrow (I have very narrow heels and high arches and not overly wide toe splay, so not sure what the problem is). I had contacted Salomon prior to buying and was told the wide version is wide across the whole shoe, so I didn't try them because of my narrow heel. As another recent reviewer noted: I suppose I'd only recommend these if you already run in speedcross or are familiar with Salomon running shoes. If so, they're pretty great. As for me, I guess I may just have myself an expensive pair of winter shoes to go to the mailbox in.

I’m sure these are great shoes, but not for me. I had to return them because they rubbed my bunions.

I was hoping for better traction on ice. I've had SpeedSpikes in the past and was thinking these would have a similar stud design. Sadly, the studs on the SpikeCross are in small recesses in the lugs. They don't grip on the ice nearly as well as my SpeedSpikes had.

I bought these in the fall excited for winter running (in Alaska). I was glad to see that the sides were reinforced with rubber as my last salomon spikes split on the side. But after 2 runs, I cannot wear them b/c they are so hard on the bottom and tight fitting (which does not make sense b/c you wear a thicker sock in winter). I even tried buying a 1/2 size bigger. Because I have worn these, I cannot return them and my only hope is to sell them to someone else who already knows they like this shoe.

Am here because I was about to order a pair as my Speedspikes (apparently a previous version of these) need replacement. I live in AK and wear my studded Salomons daily. In checking out the soles I noticed that my Speedspikes have 15 studs and they are sitting directly on top of the lugs, not recessed as shown above, just like another reviewer noted. Why would you reduce the number of studs? And place them less aggressively? Actually my Speedspike soles are still great after two winters. The only problem I have with them is that the material is tearing on the inside of the foot just below the lacing where there is a recess in the outer covering, right where you bend your forefoot. Now that is a design flaw that could easily be fixed. So, no new spiked shoes for now because I am not about to reduce the security provided by my old version.

Had Solomon xa goretex I paid premium $$ for. Used very lightly and they still look like new. After < 25 miles, the sole completely separated from R shoe back to the heal leaving me to flop along on the maintained trail, etc. They were very hot too even in cool weather. I will never buy Solomon's again. Who do you pay for those great reviews? I have shoes with 500 miles and 25 years on them still going. These? Going in the trash sadly.
