I have worn many pairs of Salomon XC ski boots and these fit just like those but with a useful sole that has good traction on slippery surfaces. I needed a winter running shoe for icy/just snowed conditions, i.e. keep feet dry and have good traction. I also wanted a shoe that was light weight and didn't have a giant wedge heel and was flexible. As a forefoot striker it is getting very hard to find even regular running shoes without a big heel that drags down your foot at the achilles, yet ones that still have good cushion in the forefoot so not entirely minimalist. Saucony had the Corteza but discontinued it years ago. Then Adidas made one in the Boost line several years ago but every year kept adding to the heel until they didn't work anymore. Both Corteza and the Addidas boost had decent Continental soles on them and they were workable in winter. Back to Saucony this year with a new model Kinvara but the sole on them is terrible. Extremely slippery on just wet pavement - impossible on snow/ice. So I decided to try this Salomon because all the winter and trail running shoes I was seeing all were clunky and had huge heels. The Salomon is solid in the traction dept. and keeps feet dry but has zero cushion in the forefoot, or anywhere for that matter - very much like a ski boot. It is also very flexible. I'm satisfied because this is the best i can find for my purpose right now. I'd give this 5 stars if Salomon put some cushion in the forefoot area and kept the heel minimal.
