Good jacket for cold fall weather especially for anything above 5 degrees C. Anything colder you'll need a sweater underneath to not feel cold. Slightly baggy build; could be a bit trimmer if you plan to have it for an urban jacket but then again I'm slim. One issue I did find was that there is a cinch cord for the hood but it's located on the inside neck area. It also has a hard plastic almost pointy like end to it which annoys me as it always pokes into my neck/skin which is somewhat annoying and perhaps even a design flaw. They should find a way to change location or have the cinch cord lie flat to the inner shell.

Tried S size in a store. I'm 178cm tall, 62 kg with a slim body frame, and it fit really large - long and wide at the bottom opening. The neck gasket nonetheless felt a bit tight-ish when fully zipped and raised. Also the material looked pretty crinkly. Opted for a Fission SV after all - it fit much better, with comfier collar and more smooth fabric. So if you're of a leaner build you should definitely try them on to see which one you like more.

I bought this to replace my Canada Goose Langford parka. This jacket is the perfect warmth for winter in Chicago. Zero wind gets in and I am able to layer up all I want/need. Best part of the jacket is how packable it can be without having to wear your large parka on the plane. Rolls up to about the size of a 2-liter without wrinkling. This is the largest jacket you need for a Sub zero Chicago winter.

This is an excellent, great feeling coat. I was looking for something I could wear with a suit or sweater that didn't make me look like Michelin man and the Magnus coat fit the bill. Flat footed I am 188cm/6'2" , 100Kg/220lbs with an Athletic build. I normally wear a 44L or 46L slim fit suit. I found a XXL for a very good price and ordered it before I read some of the other reviews and then worried that I would be swimming in it. I am so happy I ordered the XXL. If I had selected anything smaller there is no way it would have fit my arms and chest with anything other than a dress shirt or t-shirt under it. In terms of warmth, I was out in -8C with a windchill to -10C and I was perfectly comfortable with a sweater underneath. I am confident I could wear it out -15 or -20 without an issue.

Let's start with the fit: hella bigseriously, I'm 1.83m (6ft) and slim and Small is still quite big. Overall it's roomy with plenty of room to layer underneath but I 100% wish it was a bit more slimming around the waist or it had an adjustable draw cord around the waist. It's big and long to the point where this is definitely not a coat but a Parka for sure which is a plus. Something to note: The bottom of the jacket doesn't have a draw cord to seal off the cold but since it's such a long parka size it's a non-issue. The material (LOVE the Goretex), pockets, length of the collar and adjustable hood are all pretty amazing. The length of the collar is perfect because it's exactly high enough to be underneath your bottom lip keeping your neck nice and toasty, you won't need a scarf with this on. The adjustable hood is also pretty great when it comes to customisability. The only gripe I have with the hood is that it's not really one-hand adjustable on the fly because it's a bit too complicated to adjust and loosen all the straps. Generally you'll tend to adjust it to form fit and just keep it there permanently or adjust it before or after your trip because it's close to impossible to find all the straps on the fly in the cold. The warmth is a bit on the lightly insulated side. Generally I wear a T-shirt, Covert Cardigan and an Atom LT Jacket underneath. It seems very necessary to layer at least a sweater underneath. Though this makes it versatile, I feel like the Atom LT jacket part (an additional 40-60g of insulation) should be 'built in' for it to really be an 'urban winter coat', right now it's more of an urban wind/waterproof shell. Overall I do like it because in 'warmer' temperatures I can still wear the coat open with everything else on underneath but it's often a bit of a useless wear at that point unless it's rainy/windy or will get rainy/windy quickly.

I've been wearing this jacket for a few weeks now and felt I could give an accurate review. Fit - I ordered the small which is what I usually wear, including the Atom LT, which fits perfect. The Magnus fits a bit large and has a lot of extra room in the stomach area. Sleeve length is about right and since I'm really short, the bottom goes to mid thigh. It's more of a parka on me than a coat. Finish and Features- The materials are very nice and the Gore-Tex isn't super crinkly or overly loud when moving. I love that there isn't any Velcro. Your hands emerge from the sleeves with a soft stretchy material around your wrists which is inset from the outer shell. This method provides a cover of sorts to the back of the hand. The hand pockets are deep and warm with a slick material on the palm side and a fleece like material for the back of the hand. The hood is amazing and features five separate adjustments. The same fleece material used in the hand pockets is used on the collar. The entire inside of the coat is the slick material. The synthetic insulation is not too bulky, but since the jacket fits me large, it does look like a big coat. Function - I've worn this in a few temperature brackets and it works well in all of them, except for 50+ where I was too hot with just a t-shirt underneath while walking my dogs. Upper 40's and no wind can be done with just a t-shirt or long sleeve. Lower 40's down to upper 30's and some wind and I'm comfy with a light sweater. It hit mid 30's with wind and I tried wearing the Atom LT underneath. I was beyond comfortable and because of the size of the jacket, had full movement. It did look a bit puffy but I was nice and warm, but did start to get toasty after an hour of walking. I'm sure different combos can be done for below freezing with good results. I've been in driving rain and water just beads-up and comes off by shaking or flicking. Things I would add - While the hood has a half dozen adjustments, there really should be a below chest and hem draw string to help with the sizing issue. Overall - I bought this jacket because there aren't a lot of nicer parkas/coats that are warm with synthetic insulation. I've been rocking the Atom for over seven years so I knew Arcteryx made quality garments. The Magnus is no exception. The amount of pockets is fine and I like the sleeker look anyway. I do wish they offered an XS, but can manage with the Small, especially since I can fit thick under-layers without restricted movement.

Overall a great jacket for wearing in the winter in New England. It would be very helpful if future versions added a second zipper so you can open the bottom when seated in a car and also some type of draw string or synch around the waist to seal out the wind.

Comparing this to my north face GTX Mountain Jacket it is much lighter and also warmer. I've only had it a few days but so far it has been a great jacket for everyday use. The only thing I wish as other reviewers have commented on is that it had more pockets. You're very limited in pockets with this jacket. If big pockets and/or multiple pockets are a must for you this may not be the jacket for you

i think overall is very good but it is true that as other review, too less pocket for city winter use the inner pocket is at the right (maybe because of the front outer pocket at the left?)

Wonderful jacket, I'm very happy. It feels like performance gear but looks like a city jacket. Two minor gripes: It showed up heavily wrinkled... and those wrinkles aren't coming out. I haven't tried ironing yet, but may have to. The fit for the "large" is a bit large.

After wearing this jacket for couple of years, my impression of this coat is that for what it costs, its missing some basic features as well as sufficient warmth. We just got back from holidays in Berlin, Amsterdam and Paris where the average temperature ranged between 35~40 deg F. Not severe coldness by any means. The coat simply was not warm enough with merino base and mid layers under the coat. While it worked great in drizzling rain to keep me dry, the insulation simply did not provide warmth expected. The other issue is the lack of 2-way zippier. While it may sound like a trivial thing, the length of the jacket is such that, at times, one would have to unzip to sit comfortably - which then compromised the warmth more. Further, the lack internal pockets leave the user with only external two pockets. If one wears another jacket underneath, clearly this is not an issue but often, that is not the case. Was not comfortable with having to carry smartphone, passport and other valuables while on travel in the outside pockets, along with gloves (and often hands in the pockets for warmth). Probably should have bought the Thorsen instead....

Nice jacket, good for mild winter days. Keeps the wind out. But I won't be buying another unless it has a two way zipper.

I tryed on a size M in a shop but it was to small in the chest area and arms to short. So the L should be the solution. I had to orderd it and it arrived today. I put it on and the chest and arms were perfect! But under the chest (waist) is rediculously wide. I also see that the difference in waist between the M and L is for some reason a huge difference. More then the difference between other sizes. For me its a no go now because neither size fits at all. Weird to make this choice in my opinion. Because I like the quality of Arc'teryx I really wanted to go for it but I have no choice but to go for another brand. Hope you guys will receive more of this feedback and change the size a bit in a future model.

Wanted to like this jacket. The edge of the sleeve is not repellent and there are certain patches on edge areas that are not repellent. The water beads off well on other areas but then there are spots where the water stick and does not run off. Maybe its defective and they forgot to spray the repellent? I think a jacket at this price should have fabric that is repellent without the DWR spray.

Same articles of clothing that the Dad brands offer, only better athletic cuts, triple the price.
