I love bags and handbags. It's a problem for me, I admit (my husband calls me a "bag lady" in an endearing sort of way). I love my Bed|Stu oxfords and I love a great leather tote, so gave their bag line a shot and ordered the Cersei (what a name!) in tan rustic.
This is a large tote at 14" x 11". It has a main compartment, two interior slip packets on one side, a zipper pocket on the other, a top zipper, and a magnetic closure outside the zipper. There are also two completely bizarro tabs, one on either side of the interior of the bag, with snaps. I can only assume these are orphaned from an earlier design that included a dividing pouch that snapped in and is no longer included. It has a flat bottom.
This is a swing and a total miss. Do you remember that "vintage" leather Hobo was using a few years back? It was kind of shiny and crinkly/thin? There's a reason why they are transitioning away from it. It doesn't hold up well. This Bed Stu's bag is like that leather but even thinner. I honestly worry that I would rip the handles in two right at their anchor point on the bag. Start putting some serious weight into it, a tablet or even a spiral bound notebook and a book, and I would worry those handles would fail.
The bag has a flat bottom, but no feet, not even small flat brass bumpers, to protect the leather from the floor (which, for such a large sized bag, seems a strange).
Again, the leather is so thin, the round magnet closure at the top has imprinted the leather on both sides of the bag. High quality bags, when using magnet closures (which, let's be honest, they don't often), build in a secondary leather enclosure for the magnet precisely for this reason. And what's with the magnet when the bag already has a zipper to close the top?
And what do those snap tags on the sides actually snap to? Is there an add-on accessory it's missing?
Finally, the lining feels...cheap. It's just brown, kind of rough to the touch fabric. If the little details make a bag, the interior fabric kind of sums it up.
I love my Bed|Stu oxfords. They are stylish, the leather is excellent quality, and they feel great on my feet. Perhaps their new handbag line just needs to catch up with their shoes?
Back it goes...

I absolutely love this bag. The leather is so soft and it has just enough pockets to keep things organized, but not so many that your forget where you put things. The color is gorgeous. And as far as the tabs go that the person in the other review was talking about. Those are to make the bag smaller. You just snap them together tuck in the sides and you're not carrying a such a large tote. I think it's a genius idea. And the bag looks just as cute that way. I'm very happy with it and recommend it.
