FINALLY - a comfortable, supportive, well-made boot that is reasonably affordable, but not cheap. I usually wear an 8 or 38 Euro in most shoes. For some I have to go up to an 8.5. My feet need a roomy toe box that isn't too narrow or shallow, but I have narrow heels so need a good fit for comfort. I need a normal arch support, nothing super strong that pushes too hard against my foot. And I need a gusseted tongue to keep sand and pebbles out of my boots since I live in the desert.
I have tried literally dozens of hiking boots and shoes during the past few months after my Keen's wore out and the new version was not comfortable or as well made as previously. Keens used to be my go-to shoes. No more. The old Presidios were great. The new ones are okay but not as comfortable or long wearing. As for boots, I have tried Asolo, Salomon, LLBean, Teva, Hoka, Altra, Saucony, New Balance....and more. I ordered two pairs of La Sportiva based on reviews but they haven't arrived yet. When they do, I will post reviews on them because I really find reviews helpful in making choices. Sometimes, the reviews lead me astray, but more often than not they are helpful. So....here is my detailed review of the Oboz Sawtooth II Mid B-Dry boot:
The Newbuck leather upper is good quality and the rubber toe bumper is placed properly - it doesn't push your toes down or cramp them. The tongue is gusseted which is essential for me since I live in the desert and the trails are sandy and rocky. Without a gusset, I end up with rocks and sand in my socks which hurts! The fit is perfect for somebody with a wider front foot and narrow heel. There is plenty of room in the toe box, even enough to wear toe socks without rubbing, but the heel doesn't slip. There is plenty of padding around the back of the heel and the lacing works like it should to loosen or tighten the boot. The insole is great with good arch support but not so much that it pokes into my foot. There is a good heel cup so my feet don't slide around when I go up and down small hills (I haven't tried them on bigger hills yet). The boot hugs my foot nicely - it requires a little bit of maneuvering to put them on, but I prefer boots that fit a little more snugly. The snug fit supports my ankles nicely. I can't speak to the breathability or waterproofing because my feet never get hot and we haven't had any rain here for months. I don't care how big or small my feet look and I focus on comfort, not color, but these boots definitely have a smaller profile than some of the others, especially Hokas which are huge.
Of the other hikers I tried, I would recommend only three: Asolo Stynger, Teva Sugar Pine, Saucony TR14. Nobody has the Saucony in my size so I can't report on their performance but they seemed good. The Asolo was really stiff and really expensive and didn't feel as good as the Oboz. And the Teva Sugar Pine runs small so I would have to order a larger size but again, it seemed comfortable and well made based on my living room try on. My least favorite were the Hoka Kaha boots. They get good reviews but they are big and sloppy and made my feet hurt so much I limped back to my car the last two times I wore them. I just couldn't get them to fit my foot correctly, no matter how I laced them. I tried four different insoles but it still felt like the arch support was poking me really hard. I guess they might be good for somebody who pronates a lot, but not for me. Also, I had trouble with the insole slapping loudly against the sole of my foot because there was just too much room in side the boot.
I hope this info was helpful. If I encounter any issues with the Sawtooth, I will update this review or post another one. But based on my 3-mile walk on a sandy rocky trail this morning, I don't expect any issues. I forgot about my feet - something I haven't done for weeks and weeks. Yay!

Ordered these after having ordered the Teva Montara Mid Event, which I wasn't completely sold on when they arrived. The Teva's are going back after comparing them side by side with Oboz Sawtooth II Mid B-Dry. The Teva did have a trimmer look than the Sawtooth and had a bit roomier toe box but my foot could actually wiggle back and forth in the forefoot area, and the toe guard could easily press in. When I first put on the Sawtooth it was a bit more snug than I'm used too, but held my foot and ankle very securely. I tried them on with a thick pair of socks, then a normal pair. Love the thicker lining, especially since boots tend to rub on my old ankle break. The toe guard feels like it has great protection, didn't budge when I press hard. The Sawtooth had better arch support than the Teva, which surprised me. Great to know that Oboz sells after market replacement insoles too.
As far as sizing I'm a 9.5 M and wear a 10 to 10.5 in running shoes. I have a slightly wide forefoot (but not thick), high arch, and a slightly narrow heel. I ordered a 9.5 M after consulting with Zappos and feel it's a keeper.

I have a narrow foot and have a hard time finding hiking boots. My last pair finally bit the dust so started the search. I generally look for reviews which say the shoe felt narrow (thank you regular width peeps!). These were perfect with my sock liners and hiking socks, haven’t tried with thicker winter socks but I think they will be fine and I only need for super cold days here in CO, I use a different pair when I snowshoe. I put in about 22 miles on 2 different hikes up at RMNP this weekend and not a blister in sight, I coat my feet with HikeGoo and moleskin in hot spots but have had other shoes give me blisters even with all the preventative measures. I stepped in a spot that I thought was solid ground but was a marshy mucky muddy mess and my hiking partner and I just watched in amazement as everything slid off (like it never even happened) so crazy good water proofing! I am looking forward to many many hikes with these!

I love these boots! My first impression putting them on was “Wow, these are SOLID!” The soles feel sturdy with good shock absorbance that I think will definitely help my feet out on rocky terrain. Additionally, the padding is comfortable so my ankles feel protected and arch feels amazing as I do have flatter feet that needs extra support. The toe box also seems pretty protective! Stylistically, they’re not my favorite, but I definitely care more about comfort when it comes to hiking boots. Can’t wait to wear them on my next hike!

Absolutely loved these boots! Unfortunately they felt very narrow and maybe a half size too small. I would have ordered a different width, but they only sell them in a standard width. I'm usually a 7.5 standard width shoe/boot. My arches are extremely high so whatever boot I buy needs a big toe box to accommodate my orthotics. Back they go!

I love these boots! Other reviews said they ran large so i ordered 1/2 size smaller, and they fit perfect. I have wide feet, and these boots have comfortable room. They were tight fitting when I first put them on, but after my first hike with a nice sock they fit me really nicely. I would recommend these!

These boots are really comfy. The insole could be a smidge more cushy, but having said that, they feel like your feet are surrounded in comfort and protection. Great for rough lava hiking. A regular for me!

This is the second pair of Oboz that I have owned. My first pair lasted ten years and I am a moderate hiker and a faithful walker. I always walk in my boots due to weak ankles. I must say that I loved the first pair so much that I wore them beyond the time when they should have been replaced. I didn't realize it at the time, but now that I have my new pair I realize that I should have replaced sooner. I wear a 81/2 narrow shoe but narrows are hard to find. I can usually wear a 71/2 medium. My last (and this) pair of Obozs are size 8. They fit perfectly. I do keep them fully laced. I only gave 4 stars on style. My last pair were gray and I loved that color. No grays available this time so I went with a brown with a bluish trim. The other brighter colors did not appeal to me at all. Still, I would have preferred a gray. The arch support is perfect for me. I have worn orthotics for more than 20 years but so far I have not replaced the insoles that came with these boots. I am very happy with them! Yay!

Had a sprained ankle and was getting ready to hike in GTNP. Decided on a higher pair for better ankle support. I have small ankles, and did not lace up the top hooks. These boots were super comfy out of the box. provided good ankle support. Also had good internal “heel” grip, so my foot stayed in place on descending trails — so no pressure on toes on the way down. I wear an 8.5 or a 9, or a 39 European. I sized up, due to hiking sock thickness and got the size nine. Perfect! Allows your foot to “roll” heel to toe when you step, so you don’t have issues breaking in horizontally across your toes. On stony paths, I did not feel the stones, and the treads were great on wet, dry, stony, smooth and slippery surfaces. Recommend these.

These shoes are made to last! I was impressed with the overall workmanship and sturdiness. Sadly, they were too narrow in the mid and forefoot (the ankle was just right).

Oboz Sawtooth's have been my go-to hiking boot for the past several years. This year they did a re-design. The biggest change I noticed is that they are no longer zero-drop. The change in the foot-bed design was enough to aggravate my arthritic right toe. If you have normal healthy feet, you will probably love these, but they no longer work for me. Sadly, they're going back.

These felt great right out of the box. I have very narrow feet and they were comfortable for me, so I think if you have a medium width foot, these will be too tight. I noticed that my pinky toes feel like they are being squished under my feet when I wear them, but even without shoes my toe kind of naturally sits a bit under, but these definitely push it further. But the comfort of the rest of the boot outweighs that for me, they have a nice amount of thickness to the sole yet don't feel too clunky. The one negative, I bought them for warmth on winter hikes, but I hiked several times in UT and SD in 30 degree temperatures and my feet stayed frozen the whole time. Hiking in upper 40's was much better. Overall I would recommend these boots for sure if you have narrow feet.

I have finally found my hiking boot! After a two year search and many returns (and a leather pair of Vasque languishing in my closet) I have finally found a boot that a) accommodates my wide foot bed but normal size heel b) offers ankle support but is relatively light-weight and c) provides a supportive sole. I waited to put some miles on these before writing the review. I went with the 10.5 (I normally wear between a 9.5 and 10) and this is perfect for what I want: I can wear wool socks, they are comfortably roomy but don't slip, and will fit an insert. I've splashed through plenty of muddy puddles and my feet have stayed dry; I just rinse off the boots with a hose to get the mud off. So glad I found these Oboz!!

I was worried, based on other reviews, that the boots wouldn’t fit. I ordered my usual size in wide. They are perfect. The toe box is roomy and the boots are not too short for my feet. Very comfortable and easy to get on and off.

I'm generally an 8.5 or a 9, I ordered these in a 9 and they fit perfectly. I also had zero time to break them in before my 10 mile hike to the summit and this was not an issue. They were comfortable and kept my feet warm and dry.

I tried on several brands before I tried the Oboz brand. I wanted a shoe with good ankle support and one I could use an arch support. When I tried on the shoe, I found the sole they use provides a good amount of support and using mine was optional! I have a narrow foot but these are keepers.

I've just taken these out of the box and put them on, so the review is pre any hikes, BUT I think I've finally found my hiking boots! There is stability in a fairly light weight boot, room in the toe box, but the heel and ankle are not swimming on me. Yay! I have literally tried about 10 different brands and styles of boots looking for a pair that provides some support and is comfortable. I've gone to REI, I've ordered 5 styles of Keen (Keen's used to fit me well, but they've changed), Columbias, Vasque and some other brand.
My feet: I have a wide front foot but women-sized heel and ankle: men's sizes/styles just never fit me well. I need a bit of ankle support as I broke my right ankle a couple of years ago and it is still weak and/or will become sore at times. I have over pronation. These Oboz seem like they will be great! I'm going to go for a hike in them tomorrow and I'll update if I experience and problems.

This is my second pair of Oboz, and I won’t buy any other brand for hiking. They hold up really well, and are very comfortable & supportive. Neither pair of Oboz that I’ve bought have needed to be broken in. I bought my usual size/width (8.5 medium) & they fit perfectly.

The first pair I received were worn/used. They arrived in a different box, soles were dirty, and had rocks in the treads. Returned that pair and ordered a different pair. They arrived and are in the correct box and appear to be new.

I liked the boots, comfortable and offer support. After a few weeks the support in the right boot gave out causing my foot to turn out. Thankfully Zappos is there to correct the issue. I purchased another pair. Fingers crossed this pair holds up

They fit fine and were comfortable. However, I did not like they way the heel was kind of rounded over. I tend to supinate and I wanted the heel shape to provide more guidance for my foot going into each step.
