I wanted to try a pair of Scarpa hiking shoes because I had heard the quality was excellent. These shoes did not disappoint in that regard. They had everything I was looking for: Gore-Tex waterproofing, Vibram lug soles, and excellent arch support. I normally wear a 7 1/2 but my foot is wider than average, with a high instep, and this can make it challenging to find the right fit. I ordered two sizes: the 39 and the 39 1/2. I found the 39 1/2 to be the best fit worn with a moderately cushioned sock (Darn Tough hiking crew) with plenty of room in the toe box. The left shoe was extremely comfortable and supportive, but I had a problem with the right shoe. It felt like there was something pressing against the bottom of my heel (I even pulled the insole out to make sure nothing was trapped underneath it). I couldn't find any explanation for the uncomfortable feeling in the right heel. Since I suffer from Plantar Fasciitis in that foot, I didn't want to take any chances of aggravating it with the wrong shoe. So, even though these were great shoes, I had to return them and will try another brand -- perhaps one with more cushioning in the heel area.

Very sturdy shoe! Fits true to size, well-made, comfortable. Good support. The shoe is on the heavier side (which is what I wanted). A nice looking hiking shoe.

The shoes offer a lot of lateral support, something important to me and my less than stable ankles. I was disappointed in the inserts that came with these shoes. They are very thin and offer no padding. Once I replaced them, the shoes were much more suited for long hikes over uneven terrain. Scarpas always fit me very well and are true to size. These are no different. I really like them.

After wearing these shoes for a couple months, the footbed collapsed resulting in a hard, lumpy surface. The shoes were basically unusable. Zappos was awesome ( of course) and offered me an exchange or refund.
