How I wish Zappos had it in a 1/2 size smaller because I loved the comfort and style. Sadly I had to return.

I was looking for a shoe that was lighter than a hiking boot but still provided the support and weather protection required for multi-day backpacking trips in British Columbia. Overall, this shoe fulfilled many of my expectations but has lots of room for improvement. The best part about this shoe is that absolutely NO BREAKING IN IS REQUIRED. To date, I have had zero blisters from this shoe. Despite fitting large (sized down 1 full shoe size) it is the most comfortably fitting shoe and boot I have ever worn. Keep in mind everyone's foot structure and gait are different, so keep reading for more details. The tread on the sole surpassed my expectations. They did not wear as fast as I'd expected and I appreciated the bidirectional tread at the front vs heel portions for steep climbs and descents. After over 200kms of hiking within the span of a month, 120+ of those kilometers with a 34lb pack, I barely notice any wear on the tread. The sole is also thick enough that my feet were minimally sore after 20+ km long hikes per day. I would like to add that the rubber is definitely of very high quality throughout the shoe, with no wear at these points. It is a different case altogether for the material above the top inner eyelets. The soft fabric leads to near-instant wear through the foam structure of the shoe. I agree with the other review that it likely occurred from occasional contact with the other shoe while walking. This seems to be the weakest link of the shoe and the first thing to come apart requiring replacement, an unfortunate thought since the soles, insoles and practically all other parts of the shoe have lots of life left by that time. I would suggest expanding the radius of the more abrasive-resistant material surrounding the top eyelet to prevent this problem in future updates. In terms of arch support, you should expect it to be less stiff with a more neutral profile than most hiking boots, and more like a trail runner. As a person with collapsing arches, a bit more support/stiffness would be appreciated to prevent some discomfort on my medial/inner ankles, but I believe that can be achieved by adding in your own insoles to suit your foot's unique structure. This shoe is, after all, designed to be a trail runner with some ankle support. The Gortex does not live up to its name compared to the Gortex in Arcteryx jackets. Even with the slightest rain, or hiking through wet brush, the front portion of my feet always got wet. On the bright side, the simplistic design allowed for quick drying of the shoes overnight in my sleeping bag. The breathability also prevented the usual stink I create in my shoes. In terms of lacing, I found that keeping the laces through the second to last eyelets (upper section) a bit looser than the rest helped prevent the restriction of blood flow through the dorsalis pedis artery while continuing to provide a comfortable and snug fit. For short or long day hikes, this shoe is perfect. For multi-day backpacking hikes, I strongly suggest you consider the amount of arch support you require as well as the amount of waterproofness you desire.

Ich trage diesen Schuh tglich etwa 2 - 3 Stunden seit ca. 2 Monaten. Bin total begeistert vom Tragegefhl.

The length was good at my regular size 9 in hiking boots but the shoe pinched a bit at the widest part of my foot. the shoe looks good and appears well made. It felt very supportive in my arch and heel area. Unfortunately it looks like I'm going to need a boot that runs a bit wider. Too bad Teva has messed up and cheapened the build quality of the the Ahnu Montera Mid, that's the boot I'm trying to replace.

For as long as I can remember, I have had thin, injury prone ankles. I always worried about going on trail runs and being caught far from the trail head with a sprained ankle late in the day with no hope of same-day evacuation. In the face of this, i continued to wear inappropriately light trail runners... then I found these. I thought they would be the answer to the problems I was facing: get a shoe with a trail running sole with a pseudo boot upper. However after about 200km, I can conclude that these are too soft and shoe like to be a boot... but they are too chunky have too much of a drop to be a shoe to run in. Also, I do find I can't comfortably cinch the top lace eyelets tight enough to keep debris out, without pulling so hard to be uncomfortable. I usually wear these along with a pair of OR Overdrive gaiters. However, the goretex is phenomenal and if you don't have the expectation to actually run, these are excellent for moving at a fast walk through changing conditions in the mountains. I'd give them an honest 3.75 stars, but I'll have to round up to 4.

From the minute I put these boots on I knew I would love them. As someone who goes from work to trail to anywhere in between all in one pair of boots I must say these boots have been remarkably versatile. Very lightweight for all day wear but with plenty of sturdy comfort and support in all the right places when I hit the trail. My only complaint is that they are already tearing around the top inner eyelets. Hopefully this is just a product defect and not a testament to the durability of the fabric. I am usually a 7.5 and went with a 7 in these so they maybe a little bit of a big make.

Super lightweight yet sturdy enough for a multiday backpacking trip (survived the Juan de Fuca Trail and multiple day hikes). Laces would loosen despite tying flat knots, ended up switching them out. Also switched out the insoles to Superfeet as I was getting foot pain (I have relatively neutral arches).

Overall, great shoe - comfortable, ankle support, traction, lightweight. I did several hikes/scrambling in them, on a general scale - the shoes held up well. However, there are a couple of things that I wish to be different in the shoe - too much room in the toe area and laces. I didn't feel safe on some sketchy scrambling parts because I didn't feel a secure grip in my toes. In the store, I tried both shoes - this one and the lower version, in the same size. The two shoes fit completely different. The lower version felt perfect on the foot, very secure and stable. I didn't need to size down. This higher version of the shoe felt roomy and I had to go down half a size. Now, I wish I went down a full size. My toes have too much space. I didn't want to take a chance to go down a full size because I was concerned if my feet swell after long hours of a high altitude hike, but even in those conditions, I feel too much space in the shoe and wish the shoe was sitting better on my feet. Another thing, the laces get undone. No matter how I tie them (tried double knots), same problem. I have to stop now and then to tie the laces. I hope some improvements will be made to the shoe because I think these have a really great potential.

I bought this boot for our recent hiking trip to Spain - they are amazingly light, comfortable, never rubbed and I love the slightly larger toe box for extra comfort. Unfortunately I am rating this boot a '3' because after our trip they have developed a smell that I can't get rid of by airing/drying them (which I religiously dry my boots if they ever get wet). So that I don't smell up my shoe cupboard or offend anyone hiking with me, I will be buying another pair in the hope they don't develop this smell. Aside from smell, I highly recommend this boot for Spring/Summer/Fall hiking on all terrain due to its support and comfort

I have been wearing these for probably 3 months and they kept my feet dry for the first while. Now they leak. The laces constantly come undone. They feel nice and light, have great grip and are comfy but not built for rainy days. Half size down if you do purchase. Disappointed as I love most arcteryx products.

I'm an A'T fanatic; own more than 50 products. I'm usually really pleased with product quality. Recently forayed into these boots which I figured were somewhat of a risk, being relatively new to the A'T lineup. For me, the experience of walking/hiking in these boots is like wearing well-padded galoshes. A little too soft and rubbery for me, and therefore causing some light abrasion (would blister if I wore them all day on inclines). I tried two different sizes, so I don't think it's the sizing, but I would recommend anyone trying these to go smaller with your fit (and they run large to begin with). I think these boots would do well in inclement weather, so that would be a plus for some. One last thing - the mid-rise ankle cover doesn't add as much heel security as I hoped, and I wonder if the back of the boot continued up rather than cut down so much whether that would help. Or maybe that's the nature of mid-rise boots. Had there been an option for "Maybe" recommending this product, or "Recommend with qualifications" I would have chosen that instead of Yes. But I can see this boot working for some people.

I have the Acrux which I LOVE so I bought these thinking they would be a lighter weight version and would fit similarly. I went on an overnight 6 km in that was just a fire road to the campground. My knees and hips and ankles hurt so much that I could not wait to take them off. They have some kind of stability control on the inside of the heels that do not let your foot move. I have high arches and am ok with some arc support but this was over the top. My foot could not fully move naturally in the shoe. I even tried them after the hike in town after the pack was off and had to put my sadals on right away. There is no way I could wear the shoes again. I contacted arcteryx support. I hope they will take back the shoes. They usually have excellent customer service to it is a wait and see. I am not sure who I would recommend these for. Maybe someone who enjoys a lot of control in their shoes. This is most definitely not a neutral shoe. I did not get any friction spots so no break in is needed for these shoes.

I am a very big Arc'teryx fan and own a lot of gear that I'm very happy with. I own the original hiking shoe and would give it a very good review still. But not this shoe. It's too soft underfoot and I can guarantee you it is not nearly waterproof. I have wrung water out of my socks on wet days! Not walking through streams but in the rain. And after a few wears it looks beat up and dreadful. I wear it walking around town or on light trails. It is absolutely not sturdy, stiff, or waterproof enough to be a shoe for hiking technical terrain.

I bought these boots a couple of years ago and have worn them on many trails in all kinds of terrain. They are light, comfortable, and have great traction, but they are NOT waterproof. The tops of my feet around my toes get wet, particularly if I'm hiking through slushy snow. I trusted the "Goretex" label and I've been disappointed. If I could do it over again, I would not purchase these boots.

I bought these boots 3 months ago and they are beautiful. They are not, however, built to last (even two months) and the design is not functional. First of all, the beautiful fabric around the ankle is too flimsy - it is already torn in several place, probably just from me kicking my own ankle with other foot now and then. This is true for both shoes on the inside. Next, the design on the shoe leaves the ankle part wide open, so the shoe fills with rocks regularly and must be taken off, shaken out and retied regularly on the simplest walks. This shoe looks gorgeous, but it is not up to the standard of arcteryx gear.

Purchased a pair last week. The first time I wore them they rubbed the skin off the back of my ankle. I now wear them with two pairs of socks and can still feel slight rubbing. They are not comfortable. I have to walk in a sort of stomp motion because if u bend your foot the rubbing intensifies. They are also not waterproof. I wore them to walk my dog, the grass was only slightly wet, yet the inside of my shoes became damp. Overall massive disappointment. They are not as advertised and I would not recommend to anyone. If I could return them I would. Awful.
