I really like the breathability of the shoe and perfect for casual wear. I have worn size 9 in all other escalante shoes, but in this size, the size 9 was WAY too big.

The only reason I'm not giving these shoes 5 stars is because of the breathability of the mesh. As another reviewer mentioned, the mesh is totally breathable which exposes your foot to the elements. This is not the shoe you want to wear in rain, mud or snow as your sock will get wet/ dirty. I was nervous about getting a white shoe, but these were so cool looking, I couldn't resist. I usually wear a women's 8.5 in Nikes or other sneakers, but Altras fit me smaller at an 8. I wore these shoes right out of the box, running on a treadmill and weight-training - no blisters at all! They are so comfortable, functional and stylish. The perfect indoor training and casual shoe in my opinion.

I’m a longtime distance runner with bunions. I’ve worked my way through a variety of styles and brands of running shoes over the years. These shoes are the most comfortable that I’ve found in a long time. The width in the toe box makes a big difference, and i like the zero drop. They are lightweight and comfortable. I also have a neuroma and I have to put in an extra insole to protect it. The best thing about these shoes is that they have improved my run times for 400m, 800m, 1600m and half marathon. The worst thing is that I have to buy a new pair about every 8 weeks as the tread wears quickly (that’s approximately every 200 miles - and I wear these shoes for nothing but running)

I work in the hospital setting, always on my feet/moving around. I first had the Torin 1.5 but wanted something a little less bulky and came across the escalante racer '18. I got the NYC edition and was quite happy with them. Stylish and comfortable. Many people have commented on them. It was time for new ones and I am over the moon with my 4th of July edition escalante racer '19. A great design of one blue shoe, one red shoe, American flag and USA proudly displayed. Love this shoe! My only complaint is how open the mesh is at the toes for spills or other things of that nature, but love how breathable it makes the shoe. A little give and take. And they're so light!

If I was a runner I think I'd love these. Really, really comfortable. But they are at least a half size too long. I ordered 7 different Altra shoes to replace the Torin 2.5 I've been wearing for two years. There is no consistency in sizing. Some of the 9's are too big, some are too small. I wear an 8.5 sandal and am a solid 9m in everything else. These were a good half size too long.

I love love love my Escalantes. They are the first shoes I've bought to run in that I will get a second pair of. They fit like you aren't wearing anything and the pavement magically disappears. My only request is that you make the exact same shoe without dates. My Chicago 2018's are beginning to wear. I need new ones and don't really want an old date on them. How about navy or something.
p.s. I wear regular Escalantes too. They are good for casz wear and for shorter runs. I got black to wear to work. Happy feet.

Please bring back the original version but with the center midfoot width of this shoe! Check my image and see the blue pair in the center thats the original iam referring too. Im currently trying out the black racers in 9.5 which feel okay but if the escalante 4 is any indication of what this shoe will feel like after awhile of wearing I have low expectations. Just stop adding cushion into the bottom we like altra for the zero drop & the foot shape toe box bring that back plz!!! And the blue option as well

Please just black color with white or gray details if necessary for Escalante and hike shoes for women like before. Not all customers like colorings! Why not to keep colors and styles that have been a success?! Three stars because the colors option and I will not buy with the colors available.

I can't stand shoelaces!!!!!!! WHEN is Altra going to use velcro????? Not only do I not like shoelaces...but Altra's seem SHORT, makeing me dislike yours even more. What a shame to ruin these great shoes with yucky shoelaces. VELCRO is where it's at, Altra. When ya gonna get at it??

These shoes are great for HIIT classes but the tongue is barely big enough to cover my foot and the laces are extremely short. I have size 7 feet and have never run into this issue with other sneakers.

I love escalantes for weight lifting, and have worn them for many years, but the full mesh version is so impractical. My big toe broke through both shoes in about 3 months, and if I wear them outside, gravel and debris get inside the shoe. I really wish the uppers were a different material.

Gosh DARN it Altra!!!!!! Go back to your old designs!!!! This is the last pair I can trust with you. The new escalate SUCKS!!! My feet hurt! I'm a physical therapist and have always recommended you but since you've sold out and are clearly lacking on quality I can no longer recommend!! If you would just stop trying to ruin a good thing! Also why is there only 2-3 shoes with the original foot shape and everything is so narrow now? What are you DOING?! Please fix this, or this truly will be the last pair I buy for my husband, for myself and the last of altar I ever recommend. So sad!

I have been running in Altra Escalante Racer's for over a year now! I have always chosen Altra running shows for the zero drop, lower stack heights, and especially the original (wide) toe box. Right now Altra doesn't have any options that match the reason I started buying these shoes. There's still a lot of us runners out with wide feet who would benefit from having the original toebox option and the low stack-height. I have a really wide feet and the old Altra running shoe models were the best! I'd love to see these Escalante Racer's with an option to choose the "original" size toebox.

I love Escalante racers and have been running in them for over a year now. I had one pair in Black/Pink and one in Grey and was too excited to purchase a new pair in the new Black color (the one with light blue on the bottom). Unfortunately, that shoe didn't feel the same as my older pairs: the shoe has a thicker backside above the heel, and has a tighter feel and shorter shoe laces. I ended up purchasing another pair of the Black/pink version which felt the same as my older pairs and I returned the pair but didn't receive any feedback or reimbursement on that pair.

I have been running in escalate racers for over a year now. I have the black/pink pair and a grey pair (color was discontinued). I needed a new pair and was too exited to see a new color on the market. Unfortunately, this pair didn't feel the same as my previous ones: the shoe is more cushioned on the back of the shoe above the heel bone compare to other colors in this design. The shoe lace is much shorter and the overall width of the shoe is smaller than previous ones too. I will be returning this color and buying one similar to my older shoe (black/pink)

This is definitely not the escalante 2.5. Close, but no cigar. The width is far too narrow. They need to make a true wide size shoe. And the shoestrings were way too short. They provide the heel lock slot, which the escalante 2.5 was missing, but no way you can use that with the shoestrings provided. Good shoe, but not great like the escalante 2.5. The escalante 2.5 would have been perfect if it had had the heel lock slot.

Overall the shoe felt too wide. The does not have any arch support nor is it even contoured for my arch. This is my third pair of Altar's and I generally prefer minimalist type shoes, and barefoot type styles, but this shoe didn't work for me. It's a nice looking shoe but doesn't feel nice

I need a wide toe box and love Altras for the their light weight and comfy fit. After a while, though, the upper loses its structure. I can run barefoot, so this would be fine - except with the cushion it becomes too soft all around. Also, for the first time, the brand applique peeled off the shoe. Haven't used them that long. Now ISO a firm Altra; might try the Superiors. Altra might lose me. :(

I know this shoe got very good reviews but for me they were too narrow and seemed to have a very thin soul. Felt like I was pounding the ground with not too much cushion. I use to wear the Torin 4 which is no more of course!!!!! Hard to find another pair that fits as well.

Got these for running. Already had Superior 5's for trail that fit great, thought these were supposed to have the same type of fit. They do not. The toes are wide, sure, but everything behind the toes it extremely narrow. My foot falls off on the inside. I can run in them but I know it's going to be a bad idea in the longterm. Also of note, when they say "mesh", they mean mesh-mesh, as in, they have actual holes in them that go through to your socks. I can read my socks in these shoes. Never tried them in rain but I feel like that would be of concern. They look pretty fly though, and they fit right, they'd be comfortable.

The toe box is weirdly shaped. It juts out and away from the big toe leaving a large empty space, but crams my pinky toe. Unless you have a deformed big toe that is drifting away from the rest of your toes, I don't see this working well for a normal to wide foot. Narrow feet will just have a wide open space for extra curricular big toe activities. Also, the mesh is very, very open. Small rocks will invariably infiltrate these. I miss my old Boston's and really hoped these would replace them, but this is a big no from me.

I was excited to try these shoes in preparation for my half marathon training. My escalates are hitting the mileage and I needed a new shoe. Unfortunately, the smaller amount of cushion doesn't work for me. I ended up with shin tenderness after running my first 6 miles in them. I wish I could return them for a new escalate pair but I threw out the box and return slip.

I have medium-high arches, a wide wide toe box, and a wider than average heel.
The make of this shoe is very tight- for a small, narrow foot. The stitching that secures the laces dig into my metatarsals, effectively cutting off circulation to my toes. I traded out for the Solstice and I am very happy with the fit!

As I've gotten older, I've found my favorite running shoes (a different brand, with a 9mm stack) a bit TOO un-padded. I love Altra's wide toe box and have tried various models over the years but have never liked them for running because of the thick soles. I was hopeful that this model billed as low cushion would finally hit the sweet spot. Unfortunately, they're still more padding than I want.. hey're usable, but feel a bit like running in platform shoes by comparison to my favorites. I'd recommend these, but definitely with caveats.

This shoe is a step up from the excalente, but sooo far from my favorite shoe, Intuition, which as been discontinued a few years ago. I keep trying to find an Altra replacement. No luck. This shoe is not enough shoe for me, to little support and not enough cushion. Please bring back any version of the Intuition!!!
