This shoe is super comfy and is great for wearing on the hike to your climbing spot!

best workout shoe I have even owned. Also fantastic for long walks and hiking trails. Grips on rocks and everything. Very comfortable.

I love these approach shoes, just wish the laces didn't break within a few months with every pair that I get!

These shoes were a gift for my husband. After reading several reviews (some said go up a size, others said go down) I decided to go with his real size. But he definitely needs to go up. And with hiking socks on we decided to go up by a full size.

Seems like could be an excellent approach shoe for many. I usually like my approach shoes shoes to fit a little snug like a glove for scrambling and low grade climbing/bouldering but these were really quite small. I usually wear a 9-9.5 in almost all non climbing shoes, these in a 9 weren’t painful but definitely needed to go up a half to full size. My impression was they looked very high quality and durable. Only flimsy piece on this was the back heel loop to put the shoe on (which I actually do use). I didn’t break it but I have a strong feeling this thing would snap pretty easily if used regularly (some reviews I’ve seen indicate this is true). For a climbing shoe company, they should easily be able to get some webbing or other bomber material here. Ok another grip in general with approach shoes. In my experience, on of the first failure points is always the cloth inside at the heel. Can somebody please reinforce this area with something like Cordura? Then maybe I can stop having to do my own reinforcement with gorilla tape or tenacious tape!
I'd also recommend:
Vasque, black diamond, scarpa, chaco (anything with Vibram soles is usually superior in quality)

Surprisingly large toe box ("never" happens to me, i have wide forefoot). Mostly the heel was too low so i was flat-footing around. very cool double lacing system, color, etc - i wish they worked forme. Definitely try them

I bought less than a month ago, I like the shoes, but like I read in another reviews, the laces are totally crappy, they got broken, and for the price I paid that bothers me.

Too small, I usually have EUR 43 and got the 9.5, could not get into the shoe with hiking socks on.

I was very pleased with these shoes the first 4-5 times I used them. They hike almost as well as trail runners, and they climb better than most approach shoes I had in the past. And then, in one day, the right shoe turned from looking almost new into what you see in the picture. I don't know what caused the initial tear, but then it grew from less than half an inch long to being so large the show would not stay on my foot, in just 4-5 hours of mild scrambling and hiking. Not what I would expect from high quality shoes La Sportiva is known for.

I have two points to make. Assigning stars is unfair with regard to the first point in this case, because the shoe can be really good or really bad depending on what one wants. Every approach shoe has to deal with the tradeoff between rock climbing and trail hiking. The first requires "feel" and sticky rubber. The second requires stiffness in the sole to protect ones feet. The TX4 emphasizes the first. So, it is only good if the approach is short and or a well groomed trail. Otherwise your feet may regret it. I used them in the Tetons last year and they were fine. I used them on Capitol Peak and Snowmass last week and my feet are trashed. Blisters on the soles in multiple places and all around the heel. I have had a number of approach shoes from La Sportiva and others and never had any foot problems. That is my main point (the only caveat may be that this is not a problem for lighter climbers. I am 6'1" and 195 lbs). The other point is a design flaw that some may not agree with but I failed to take into account. That is that the heel is too high. Going down is where one's feet take the most abuse. The higher the heel the "steeper" the downhill grade becomes throwing body mechanics into extremes when it is not necessary.

Bought these less than 2 weeks ago for hiking after I wore out my TX3's to nothing and the laces and lace straps are falling apart for no apparent reason. Shoes only have a little over 30 miles on them! Other than that they are excellent fitting shoes just like the TX3's and are really comfortable. I will be sending these back and getting a pair of TX3's. Don't buy the TX4's buy the TX3's.

I bought these less than 3 months ago. I bought these to use running a highropes course, zip line and wood climbing wall. (We have to climb half way up the wall to use the zip line). My season was already over when I bought these so I never got a chance to use them on the course, and never will. The rips above the rubber are 3-4" long, in both shoes. I've only used them for everyday use around my office, going out etc. This is to bad because they are really comfortable. Bit if they don't last wearing them like I did how would they last on a mountain
