This is an excellent boot. The cushion is good yet not so much where you can't feel the ground for steady stepping. I wore these straight out of the box for an 11 mile hike and never got a single blister or any kind of sore feet.

Usually, I'm a 7-7.5 in shoes, and I went for the 8s in these after reading reviews. I have the analogous trail runners in 7.5 but I'm glad I upped it in these for more hiking sock space. But my, oh my, do I love these boots. I felt like I had to retrain my foot how to move in the shoe because they give me so much space to spread my toes without feeling like they are loose or unstable. The sole is astonishingly grippable and even though I can feel rocks and uneven surfaces my foot feels sturdy and safe (I prefer a lighter weight hiking boot where I can actually feel what I'm walking on vs. an overly stiff midsole that feels like a platform). I just got back from a 5 day backpacking trip with these, 2 days of which were torrential downpour. While these definitely aren't waterproof, with some wool socks my feet were plenty warm and the shoes dried out pretty quickly. I was in such a coffee+burger craze when I got back to my car that I dropped one of my boots off my pack (I'd finished hiking in my Bedrocks), and was nearly in tears when I discovered it 3 hours away from the trailhead. Needless to say, I'm obsessed with these boots enough that I drove alllllll the way back to the trailhead to fetch my dropped left boot. Thank goodness it was still there. I would buy these again and again and again. Thanks, Altra!!

Oh my! I have flat feet and bunions. Up until now (I'm in my 5th decade) I have equated hiking boots, with pain and stiff clumsiness. These boots have changed all that. I took them on their maiden voyage yesterday and not only did I finally did I have more confidence and grip without loosing "feel" of the terrain but tons of toe and bunion room but not one blister after 7 miles. Thanks so much for making my hikes so much more enjoyable.

I absolutely love these trail shoes. My blisters happen no more. But holy cow, the colors of these shoes are awful. Please come up with some more neutral colors

I started backpacking in 1977 and I have had to deal with blisters on the trail pretty much since 1977. I have unusual feet. I just returned from a 30 day JMT yo-yo trip which ended up covering about 450 miles. I'm a 5'5" male and found that the WOMEN'S LONE PEAK 4 MID MESH were a perfect fit for my small feet with wide toes. I shipped a second pair to Lone Pine for the halfway point and I got 1 blister on my first day out and never had another for the rest of the trip. Over 400 miles and no blisters! I'm still marveling at this! 22 High Sierra passes, each one with snow crossings and countless wet water crossings and no blisters. You have changed my backpacking forever. I do mid-range thru hikes every year(200-400 miles) and I can now go farther and faster because I have less foot pain. Thank you Altra. Glider

I just finished hiking the Tour du Mont Blanc, which is a 110 mile hike with 32k feet elevation gain and loss. The mesh Lone Peak were amazing and I am pretty sure they are responsible for my having zero foot problems the whole hike. I got no blisters and still have all of my toenails. I have always felt like goretex boots were incredibly hot and responsible for a lot of blisters, and was elated to find a non-waterproof boot. When I did step too far in to the water in these shoes my feet dried quickly. I have hiked and trained in a lot of Altra trail shoes and was worried that I would need more support for this hike. The added ankle support with the midrise Lone Peak did help with ankle support. My only complaint with this shoe was that it felt too wide for my foot. I had to cinch it way down in order for it to hug my foot enough to not bang up my toes on the downhill.

I have two other pairs of Altras for running - both in size 8. Ordered this in 8 and they are definitely too small and tight. Check the size guide before you buy. Ordered the 8.5 which is on its way.

Pros: Other trail shoes should feel embarrassed. Altra's Lone Peak 4.0, like Altra's Timp, move feet down trails the way feet evolved to transport the body. The wide toe box with its breathability keep feet comfortable even under the weight of a 35lb pack. The zero drop allows for proper walking (or running) gait. The opposite heel/toe claws keep the shoe trail stable up hill and down, dry or wet, rocky or smooth(like there is ever a smooth trail).
Cons: For me, the color choices and the few color choices suck (but the shoes are so amazing who gives a rat's behind)
Full disclosure: 60+, flat feet, pronated ankles

I have ligament damage to my left foot and my physical therapist suggested I purchase Altra shoes. These felt absurdly comfortable right out of the box and I am sold. I'll be buying more pairs in the near future. Having a roomy toe box is great.

I really like these shoes. I hike in them about 5-6 miles every other day. They support my ankles. The only down fall I have with them is I need to have a shoe horn to help me get them on but I would still recommend them As a matter of fact I purchase another just like them.

I have many of these. I have been hoping that Altra would fox the biggest flaw and that is at the toe. The sole comes up to the toe and with some little use the toe tip starts to peel away. I had to go through 2 pairs this summer. Again I do love these, but wish they could figure this out like every other company (maybe a stitch or better glue).

Great fit and roomy, no blisters. However, hiking trails in Shenandoah National Park are very rocky and I started to feel like I was experiencing every rock and boulder on the bottom of my feet. I want to put more cushioning in the shoes but now will I compromise the integrity of this great balanced shoe? UGH!

Absolutely love the feel of this boot. The toe box is roomy. It has curtailed my bone drift/bunion pain and I no longer have throbbing feet after walking at work for hours on end. That said if Altra is going to release a nearly all black boot- why not make it actually all black so it can be worn for work where all black shoes are required. Would love to see a more patrol/work boot all black style of this in the future.

FINALLY! 5 pair of boots (two of them, Zappos, you sent the wrong boots!!!), 4 sent back, fingers crossed when I ordered what I determined would be my last Zappos order. I was prepared to have to send these back, too, but they worked!
I had to order 1 1/2 sizes larger than my regular shoe size for the ball of my foot to not be too tight! I wear a 9 (but it may be time to size up - as I age and my high arches fall, my feet seem to be getting bigger) but had to get a 10 1/2!!! in this boot. I'm glad I stuck with it because I think this boot will make a difference for my tender feet.

First of all, order a size up, even in doing that, they just fit!
I do not love these for style, but they are comfortable and that means a lot! I have been having issues with my bunion on left foot, and these have been the only shoes other than sandals, that I have been able to wear, due to the width and them being light weight.

I've worn Altra before, and this pair, a half size up, still hit my big toe weirdly. Maybe its the cut , just wrong for my particular foot, but I also thought they were seriously unattractive, I don't usually care about that in a sport shoe, but combined with the lack of comfort, there was no question of keeping them.

some reviews said runs large but did not for me. The shoe is also a challenge to put on if you have a high arch' Lastly the shoes had a pungent chemical smell that did not dissipate after two days out of the box.

Almost all the things I like about Altra's and with ankle support except that there is little cushion in the sole. I am used to more cushioned Altra's and was disappointed that these were so thin. I put some good insoles in, but had sore foot pads and am returning them. If this shoe existed with a more cushioned foot bed, I would buy them in an instant.

I really want some zero drop boots for my daily hiking. I have Merrell Trail gloves, but the minimal sole causes my soles to get tired after about 8 miles. And I want higher tops. These felt perfect...but I can't bring myself to wear bright colored, 'pretty' hiking boots. And the olive ones would be fine, but you're out of my size. HURRY and make some in a bland earthtone so I can buy them!

Size 7 was at once too short and too wide. Tried 7.5--again, too short but extremely wide. Didn't want to try size 8 since except for length I was already swimming in size 7.5. Too bad--from the description the boot was perfect.

I bought my third pair of Lone Peaks in spring 2020 when I found a pair on sale. When I went to use it a few months later the boot was at least a half size to small and the big toe part of the toe box had been modified such that I developed black big toe nails. In all my years of hiking I have never damaged my big toes. Ended up with painful toe blisters. A very painful experience. I won't purchase again because the fit of the boot in the toe box has been modified so much that it no longer works for me. Overall liked the narrow heel and glove-like fit, although for longer or rocky hikes I added a superfeet trailblazer insole. To deal with the toe box issue I went with Hoka 1 1. It does the trick but is a clunkier shoe.

Just bought a pair this year. I'm not a strenuous hiker, more of a woods sauntering kinda of person. LOVED the way these boots fit in the store. I have used them in gentle hikes maybe twice a month for a few months and the stitching on the toes are coming out. Called the store I bought them from and they said everyone complains about it with this brand. Wish I knew that they don't last long before I handed over all that money. Repeat - I am not a hard core hiker so it's not that I'm shredding them in a trail. They are just made cheaply.

Could no longer find this shoe for men.
Posting this for the ladies.
Terrible delamination soon after purchase, gear fit and good wear on the sole.

Ordered this boot in women's size 10 in black. Received a men's 12.5 Olympus 3 in green. This is the second order in a row where the wrong product was sent! I have no idea about the questions asked above, it was a men's 12.5!
Not impressed.
