This bag is the bomb.com- I searched for a convertible tote for a long time and finally landed on this one.
Pros- very stylish and sleek (especially compared to other convertible totes), fabric is very nice and durable, in backpack mode it sits comfortably on the back, the black lug color is awesome! I also love how the backpack straps can be tucked into their own pouch and are not hanging out all the time when not in use. I spilled hot coffee on the bag recently and it slid right off!
Cons- would be cool with an inside water bottle sleeve!

I bought this bag with the intention of using it for work - it's casual enough for our low key office vibe but also professional enough to take with me when I go to meetings. I also go to a lot of construction sites and the convertible backpack lets me have my hands free for drawing, photography, and taking notes.
I was also pleasantly surprised that my 17" lap top could fit in the bag! (The interior protective sleeve is less than 17" but the bag can still be fully zipped).

Verified PurchaseReview for Zappos VIP Points(What's this?)
I was hopeful! It's a well-made bag, sturdy, nice colors etc etc, and the shoulder straps were fine, comfortable without being bulky. But the tote straps seemed short for thick winter coats. And the zippers were sticky -- especially the zipper that closed main compartment. So, although material and size and versatility seemed good, I'm returning it.

Search is over for a super functional bag for my commute. Perfect in black with gold zipper that works with my classic casual wardrobe that is (jeans/sneakers to tailored jacket/tailored pants with ankle boots. Privacy secured when I dig down into bag searching for commuter ticket, snacks, wallet. Sturdy quality zippers & key fob pocket is excellent to store much needed tissues, hand sanitizer, mask. I would have wanted less weight for the bag, but as one reviewer stated, it was okay for her petite frame. That helped me to decide on the purchase. Bag looked larger in photo regardless of measurement. (I wear a lot of black everything so it does feel & look fine as a backpack). Easy to carry more when needed unexpectedly, toss a craft project inside keeping hands free. More organizational pockets would have been great but weight of bag gets heavier. No need to carry an extra bag (or look like a bag lady) since all my stuff can fit into one great looking bag. I like the single zipper for front pocket. It is quicker to open/close. Nothing important will be stored inside. Also, backpack is removed during subway/railroad ride. Best backpack straps for my petite rounded shoulder.

My husband purchased this for me just before a trip to San Francisco. I wanted a lightweight backpack I could also carry as a purse. This was excellent. I carried it as a backpack for 3 days all over the City. It was stuffed with a fleece, rain jacket, extra shoes & all my purse items, plus my purchases. It never hurt my shoulders. It rained for 2 days and nothing inside got wet. At night I had a cute tote purse. I was worried about the strap length for the tote, but they adjust & were exactly right (I'm 5'7") Finally found the perfect bag for travel. The purple color is pretty, unique, but not overly bright. Another win for Timbuk2! (Along with the Wingman duffle)

I was worried that this backpack would not fit everything I need, but it's surprisngly roomy. I was able to fit my laptop in the laptop sleeve, a notebook, a large planner, a few Manila folders with files, a clipboard I need for work, my wallet, phone charger, and a few extra personal items as well in the front pocket. It also looks professional and is super light when used as a backpack (even filled up). I was looking for something professional yet stylish, with a lot of room, and something that zipped up. This fulfilled all my criteria! Only thing I'd like is a water bottle holder on an inside or outside pocket.

I've waited until after using the Convertible Backpack Tote for 3 months to write my review and I can say that this is an awesome bag! I liked both the Army and Shade colors but ended up buying the Shade version. It is a nice dark grape hue. The fabric has a satin-feel to it but has stood up to daily use and travel like a champ. Dirt and scuffs wipe right off. The fabric makes the bag look nicer than the typical sporty looking messenger or backpack and easily transforms into looking like a large purse. I use it as my daily bag to carry my laptop and an Arc notebook + way too many pens to work. I also fit items like lotion, pack of tissues, small notebook, and charging cables but still have room if I needed to throw in glasses, my phone and wallet if needed. I find that the # of compartments is fine, I didn't need a ton of extra pockets. The ones included with the bag work for me.
For travel I used it as my personal bag in tote bag mode and carried headphones, my 12.9" ipad pro, cables, wallet, snacks, blanket scarf and a cosmetics bag. When I got to my destination, I switched the bag back to backpack mode and used it to carry my laptop to a conference.
Bonus! My 15.4" Dell Latitude actually fit in the built in laptop sleeve - barely but it fits. I expected to have to put my laptop loose in the main compartment but it actually fit in the padded laptop sleeve.

I bought this as my daily work bag. Couldn't decide between a tote and a backpack but this is both! I don't carry tons to work but it comfortably holds my laptop, charger, a small binder, and little umbrella in the big pocket. Little items like wallet, keys and makeup fit well in the extra pockets. My only fuss is that the straps are super long so if you carry it like a backpack but just over one shoulder, you've got a long streamer flowing behind you with the unused strap. I get so many compliments on this bag and I'm contemplating buying it in another color. It's practically perfect.

My bag was just delivered! I love it. Perfectly fits my laptop, cord, mouse, portfolio. Feels very comfortable and the black color looks nice. I haven't even stepped out yet to use it but I'm sure it will be great! Was also nice that it happened to be on sale.

This is the bag I've been looking for over a year and I am so happy to have finally found it!!! It is elegant enough to carry to work, but sturdy enough to not fall apart with daily, mildly rough use. I love it. The black fabric is satiny and the hardware is brassy gold - both of which make it look a lot nicer than a backpack. But it holds your stuff like a backpack and you can wear it like one if you prefer. At the same time you could tuck the backpack straps away if you choose that option. I am so happy to have found this bag and glad you created it!!! There is a severe lack of good convertible bags out there.

This bag is lightweight, sturdy and stylish. It has a padded laptop sleeve, and I can fit a couple of notebooks/books, a sweater, scrubs and some sneakers/danskos. I keep keys and ID badges kn the hidden front zip pocket and all my other small things in the large front zip pocket (pens, etc). I was worried about 2 things: 1) the lack of space for a water bottle, which I resolved by hooking one onto the front w/a carabiner; 2) the straps being uncomfortable due to not being padded, and coming undone because of the type of metal buckle. The straps are perfectly comfortable for the amount of things I can fit in this bag (practically impossible to make it heavy enough to bother me). I took the bag to a tailor who sewed the straps in place which worked for me! I couldn't be happier!

I am so happy to have found an excellent work bag. High quality material, look, and feel. The right amount of pockets, strong zippers, and I appreciate the blue inner lining (as opposed to black) because my things no longer get lost in a dark abyss. I highly recommend this tote/backpack combo.

This is a great bag. it was exactly what i needed. sometimes TImbuk2 bags don't have enough external pockets and are heavy on the velcro for me. I can fit my laptop, my 15.6" monitor AND my full keyboard in this. love it. I love the fact that i can remove the backpack straps too. the straps on top are long enough for over the shoulder. For me? it's perfect. and about $200 less than the comparable Tumi bag i would have bought.

I love my convertible backpack and tote. I replaced my brief case that I have used for the past 5 years with this adaptable backpack and tote. The color is beautiful, the material strong and the inside well organized with pockets and a divider to separate important materials. I love that I can carry as a backpack or as a purse over my shoulder. I would highly suggest it and buy again.

This fits my 14" laptop and plenty of other work stuff without being a bulky bag. When it's just my wallet in the bag, it still looks great. The fabric is slightly shiny, so it gives it a bit of dressiness. It's great for the rain while still being a stylish bag. I would kill for this to also come in a shiny navy or a shiny bright color fabric with the gold hardware.

I love this bag and use it every day to carry my laptop and all the things I used to carry in a purse. It looks great, has lots of pockets and storage space. I love how it allows me to just carry one bag and have everything I need!

This bag is the perfect size to fit my work materials (laptop, chargers, documents), heels, and a change of yoga clothes. It's perfect for my long city commute and I love not having to lug multiple bags (purse, gym bag, lunch bag, etc.) anymore. I get so many compliments on how professional it looks.
I only wish it had 1. pen slot, 2. More small pockets within the front zipper pocket, 3. And a way to secure the top straps at a specific length better.

I love this laptop bag! I am not a huge fan of backpacks but like the convenience of them. This bag brings the best of both worlds together! The ONLY thing I would change would be to add a luggage pass through. If that was added, I'd be keen to buy another one for my collection immediately!

I have to log all my papers for my college work, papers I need to grade and my laptop every day. I was tired of carrying it all in a decades-old backpack. This backpack/tote permits me to carry everything in style. I would love compartment or space for a water bottle but overall this is a great bag.

I've been researching for days non stop and doing many hours of research to find a all in one bag (doesn't have everything but this bag has 80% perfect of what I'm looking for). I was so blown away by how beautiful this backpack is designed. I've only had it for a few days now but it sooo minimal and well thought out with its pockets and its accessibilities. I was looking for something clean that can have multiple purposes and this bag can style many occasions and conversions from backpack, to tote and into a shoulder bag when you loosen the handle straps.
All I would've loved more about the bag is having it be waterproof and bottom pad for protection when placing it on the ground.
