The first NF down vest , which I bought in the 70's, that is still in great shape but to small, I purchased several down vest from different manufactures.... BIG mistake! I should have purchased another NorthFace rather than buying down vest from different manufactures! I highly recommend the 1996 Retro Nuptse Vest. Buy this vest for warmth and quality.

I have a Nuptse vest from a couple of years ago that I love and wear almost daily during the fall/winter months in the Midwest. I loved the color options in this season's offering and sprung for the Aztec Blue. First, the colors really have to seen to be believed. In person, the blue really pops in a way that the web pictures don't quite capture. Looks awesome, and the finish on the fabric is really nice. The fit on the new 1996 vest is true to it's "boxy" descriptor. I bought a medium and it's very roomy in a way my older Nuptse (also size medium) isn't. I'm happy for the drawstrings on the hem, otherwise I feel like I'd lose heat easily. The larger baffles on the new model are also nice; it's just as warm and lofty but seems a bit less "poofy" compared to my older vest. The overall look is just more stylish, I think. The enlarged North Face logo is cool as well. I can't see myself using the hood very often, given that if it's raining I usually don't wear a vest, but it's a nice add on to have.

I know this might sound funny but I am writting my review after browsing for the newest model of my North Face NUPTSE VEST bought 5 years ago. Well I bought my NUPTSE VEST (in Black) about 5 years ago while on holidays in London and since them I am wearing it very ofthen every winter here in Cyprus. The winter here is not very bad, lowest temp is about 5 to10c and this vest is the best choice for such a weather. Its fashionable, its light, its warm, it's hi quality, I cannot say enought. I wear it at the office, at the afternoon coffee time with friends, its my daily best friend :) This year I am planning to get another one, prob the black and yellow. :)

I like this vest because it's warm and it looks cool. The only thing that bothers me is that it's too puffy.

I always wanted one of these types of vest and I was not disappointed at all. Where I'm from our weather changes a lot and this vest held up to the test. I highly recommend one

This vest is very stylish and very warm. It is nicely filled with goose down that really insulates quite well. I bought the red color and it looks great with a pair of blue jeans and a flannel shirt. The craftsmanship is on par with TNF. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the inside zipper pocket. It goes unused because, well, it's on the inside. Who wants to unzip the vest and then unzip the inside pocket to get something out of it. I put my sunglasses in there a few times but it became a hassle constantly unzipping and zipping everything up again so i just don't use the pocket anymore. However, if I was hiking, it would be a perfect place to stow a granola bar or something but for everyday use, it's useless

My boyfriend loves the vest. It's warm in a northern climate and very comfortable. He hasn't taken it off in over a week!

This vest is amazing. I've had different versions of the Nuptse vest and this one is by far the best. It's identical to my very first one that had the bigger baffles. I prefer that. It's light weight and warm. It's very stylish too. I have got many compliments on it. I have paired it with a hoody, long sleeve shirt, my Apex Flex GTX jacket and my Borod fleece. Love The North Face and Love The Nuptse

I wear this west all day long

Would consider myself an athelete without the title due to my occupation within United States Marine Corps, however this jacket is very stylish and copes with every need i look forward towards in an everyday jacket regardless of how you use it.

Great for daily use going to work or school. Having the good pop of out the collar is neat and useful if you need it.

Just as described. Bought one size bigger than recommended since I do wear it over a hoodie.

This vest is great! The warmth it offers is outstanding I often go to the coast we're it can be very windy & cold so I was looking for something warm & that could withstand the brutal winds & this vest is perfect for it!

Test

The exterior appearance is the same as the iconic version from the late 90's, however the fill level of down is not the same. I would estimate each compartment has roughly 60% of the down fill that the originals did. As someone that has an original one still I can confirm side by side the lack of down in each compartment is glaring. I was very excited to purchase this but have been disappointed by the choice northface made to use less down to save money. Not the same as it used to be, but still looks great.
