Pretty utilitarian cap. The low-pile fleece seems easy to clean and isn't prone to picking up dirt/debris compared to a high-pile. I haven't washed it enough times to test, but I also believe that it's not going to pill too much. Criticisms: (1) Seems slightly shallow. Only a minor issue for me since my head is pretty small, so I can still pull it far enough to protect my ears. But if you have a large head (or even normal head), this may be a disappointing fit. (2) The cap is made with two layers of fleece. Great in theory: two layers is warmer than one, and the interior is smoother without protruding seams. (a) But the seams of both layers line up across the top of the cap, giving your head a pointy and remarkably lumpy look. (My mother saw me wearing this cap and asked me what the heck was wrong with my head.) (b) Wearing anything with an over-the-head headband can get awkward if the band crosses the center where the seams on the cap meet--it creates a pressure point on my skull. I own a similarly cut cap from North Face (an old purchase from a brick & mortar, but looks like the Osito based on photos) with a high-pile fleece, and the cap section of the design is a single layer so it dodges the awkward lumpy problem. I'd recommend taking a look at that cap--I like it much more than this one.

I have been the #1 fan of the ORIGINAL standard issue beanie for years and was beyond disappointed when they started making it reversible. (BAD IDEA) I do love the color choices, but it doesn't fit like the original. MAKE THEM IN ORIGINAL SINGLE CONSTRUCTION AGAIN - just make more single colors if that's what you want to add more choices, but don't mess up the beanie! it SUCKS! i have some old ones i keep like miser's gold. I bought one new one a while ago and ended up cutting out the inside layer because it kept riding up over my ears and it bunches up! PLEASE bring back the original! it WAS the best beanie on the planet - IT'S NOT THE SAME BEANIE. Rename it as something else for those that don't care about the integrity of the orginial standard issue beanie! i can't recommend it anymore, BUT the original is still the one piece of clothing that i can't live without!

It is really small and short, despite the fact I ordered L/XL size. It is maybe designed by toddlers. Also the finishing looks very cheap. So, for me it was a waste of time besides the waste of money.

Not a great beanie. But more disappointed how hard it was to complete the "free return". Still like north face products. But would never order on the website again.

I have a North Face Standard Issue Beanie that I ordered from Zappos a few years ago. It looks a bit worn, so I wanted to replace it. Alas! The design has changed, and not for the better. The new design fits poorly - it is EXTREMELY shallow. Now, one of the things I love about my hat is that it is also not too deep, but this redesign barely touches my ears. There's also a layer of extra fabric inside the hat now, which is bunched up and poorly sewed in. So sad.

I have one of NF Beanies from last year and went to buy 3 new beanies because I lost my hat at my Daughters Basketball Tourney... I was wild and upset with myself because I luv'd the beanie hat. Ordered out 3 of the TNF Standard Beanies and was excited to get them. Went back to the Tourney the next day and found my hat... So I was really happy in finding what I lost and that I was getting more of them shortly.... When they arrived I opened the box and put the first one on and something was wrong... They put insulation on the top of them?!?! Which bunched them up and made the top of the hat look weird... Tried the other two on and the same issue. I was bummed and am in the process of calling in and have been on hold now for 30 minutes.... Why did NF change such a great product?!?

I ordered the S/M as I am a petite women with an average sized head. In addition, I have The North Face Horizon hat in a S/M and it fits perfect. This hat however was WAY too small. didn't even come down far enough to cover my ears! Which was the whole point. I will say that the mint blue/kokomo green color is beautiful. Too bad I can't keep the hat, and it's too close to my trip to exchange it. I'm pretty bummed, now all I have is The North Face ear band that came with this order, but had uneven/puckered stitching. I expected better quality. This will be the first and last time I order from The North Face. Shipping took forever, then required a signature at delivery. I had to take the day off work to sit and wait for my shipment to arrive.
