I received the Beta SV Bib pants as a gift for Christmas and should have returned them before wearing them, but I didn't know how bad the design was before I used them.
The Beta SV Bib pants have the following problems. They are cut quite tight in the bib area, try adding the right layers for a -25C day and you will see what I'm talking about.
They have a very small front zipper that does not fully unzip from the top. This makes access extremely hard when wearing any base and mid layers. Not having a full frontal zipper also makes it very hard to get on and off with the crossed back straps combined with the tight bib area.
Another reason the design is terrible, the Beta SV Bib Pants only have one pocket on the right thigh. Perfect for an incredibly uncomfortable place to put anything. I had my phone in the pocket one day and not only did it rub and bounce right above my knee, the phone died within an hour because it was in below freezing temperatures. Where are the pockets in the chest area? That would have been a good idea. Oh, and the one pocket on the thigh has a zipper that is extremely difficult to open and close, due to the flap that folds over it and the small size of the waterproof zipper. Maybe multiple pockets big enough for a phone would have been a good idea, especially where its warm in the chest area.
Lastly, the inner gators by the lower legs do not stay down when not in ski boots. Yes there is a hook on the front to hold them on the laces on the front of your boots, however, there is nothing else holding them down, no rubber on the inside so the back of the gators ride up and over the top of your boots when walking in a couple inches of snow which means snow in the boots.
Lastly, the price is really high considering all the drawbacks. I'm really not happy with these pants. The only thing that's good is the heavy gore-tex that's used. Very frustrating.

I have used standard BETA GoreTex pro pants and decided to buy these. My main activity is SKI touring and mountaineering. Well these pants disappoint mainly on the bad design decisions. I am not sure which athletes are consulting Arcteryx but clearly not those who spent a lot of time in the mountains. Here is why:
The zipper on the pants is useless. Try go pee somewhere in these and you will know what I am talking about. Removing bib in severe weather and conditions is not an option.
Then the lack of pockets is big no no. As a ski tourer what you need is at list one warm pocket, close to hands and close to chest. Bibs must have a chest pocket for at list holding a cell phone. It would be nice to have additional leg pockets on both sides and one of those to be used for beacon or drop in gloves if necessary.
Material dos sure not look or feel as durable as on my cca 8 years old BETA pants.
Price is up, quality is down. Seen so often these days.
