I did a lot of research before buying his jacket. I wanted warmth and versatility. I wanted to be sure I was making the right purchase for me before I spent so much money. I love the fit. I can wear it alone or layer under or over. I love the colour as most jackets seem to be black. I bought the merlot and the colour is perfect for me. I travel a bit for my job and I love that I can compress the jacket in airports etc.

I bought this jacket as I've relocated to an area that's drier and colder in the winter than where I've lived previously. So far, this coat has exceeded my expectations. I sometimes fly in helicopters with the doors off for work and I used this coat on one of those days and did not feel cold at all. There was almost no wind penetration. Down jackets from other brands are priced similarly and you can't beat Arcteryx for their quality and warranty so for me it was a no brainer !

I wasn't sure whether to get a small or a medium, and the small has been perfect. Definitely still has room for layering underneath. I got the Nightshadow color and it is the same as it looks online, and absolutely beautiful!

I purchased this jacket this previous winter (17-18), during one of Utah's much dryer but colder winters, and there was not a better jacket in existence for that type of weather. It is so unbelievably warm, lightweight, and comfortable. In addition to this my girlfriend bought one, and although she is normally a very cold person, never complained about being cold while wearing this jacket. So good, and the bigger zipper compared to the Cerium was the cherry on top!

Un excelente diseo que aporta gran abrigo con un peso realmente reducido. Ajuste muy cmodo, en el que destaca el cuello que permite un abrigo extra para esta zona, sin llevar bufanda u otro complemento.

Gave this to my wife as an early Valentines Day present. She is from El Salvador and despite loving to ski she hates the cold. I try to buy her the warmest gear possible to keep us on the slopes even if the temps are in the single digits. She wears the Thorium most days this winter as a mid layer under her ski jacket and as a stand alone jacket if the temps warm up. She loves it! It's her new favorite 'sweater'. When we travel back to El Salvador its nice to have a jacket that can be stowed in a rucksack so easily when we arrive and be easily pulled out when we return home to Delaware.

I originally ordered an XL as that is what I have in a Beta AR however the XL thorium was small. Exchanged it for an XXL. I am 5'11" and 215 lbs. No belly just a wide back hence an XL however, true to Arc'teryx sizing, which I need to comment is crazy different from other high end companies such as Mountain Hardwear of which XL is perfect. No big deal other than the delay of returning and receiving on-line of which was done less than 3 days and I am 5 hours from major city. Jacket is warm. Comfortable in -20c wearing a light weight long sleeve merino. Even so with simple t-shirt. Highly recommend the jacket. Material is also tough. I wear this in the bush when bushwacking. Not on trails and have yet to tear it.

This Thorium AR Hoodie is my first Arc'teryx jacket. In the past I've had very good luck with North Face 800 Pro down and Helly Hansen products but this jacket fits and feels great. Today was the first test in actual cold Canadian weather (-14c) and I headed out to clean off the truck for work wearing only a tee shirt under this jacket. I remained toasty warm and I can't wait until we get enough snow to start the cross country skiing season. I love winter, always have, mainly because of products like this one that deliver what I expect to get out of them. Very good jacket.

Bought this as an everyday jacket, but also as an insulator/lighter option for ski coaching. Fit/sizing is good. I'm 5'8". 43" chest with 33" waist. I bought a large, which fits well and allows an extra layer which is necessary in my line of work. Jacket does a great job of keeping the heat in. I don't really get affected by the cold, but this jacket has been great so far with minimal layering beneath it. I have no complaints about wind coming through where the baffles meets others have mentioned. I haven't experienced any issues with that as yet. I have one minor issue: The flap/baffle under the zipper could be taped to prevent the zipper from catching in the main fabric of the jacket. It would add some weight, but it would be negligible. Overall a great jacket that does what I need it to.

After a ton of research, I bought this jacket before leaving on a year-long trip through Africa, India and Nepal. I did quite a few long treks, including several with days or weeks spent well above 4000 meters, and this jacket functioned incredibly well through all of it. It's amazingly lightweight and packable, fits close to the body, allows for great movement, and is just fantastically versatile. I used it on windy beaches in austral winter in Madagascar, wore it up 5400 meter Thorang La on the Annapurna Circuit, made it into a pillow on two-day bus journeys through Ethiopia, and hiked for more than two months through mountains high and low. As long as I was moving and had a good midlayer, I found that this jacket was warm enough to use even in -20 temperatures.

I bought this jacket for going on a school trip to Iceland. I already have 2 other down jackets of other makes, but this without doubt tops both. For starters, it looks great. I loved the feminine fit and, in the purple, the colour was lush! It is also our school colour and so will be a perfect addition to my working wardrobe for next year when the Scottish winter hits and us PE teachers are still out in the yard! Technically, this jacket was light and yet very warm. The temperature in Iceland is very variable, even in the summer, and the wind chill at times, especially up on the peak tops, was pretty cold. This jacket packed away neatly in my pack without taking up much space and was pulled out when required. I usually just wore it over a synthetic t-shirt and it provided all the heat I needed to keep my core warm. Even in the damp conditions on the glacier edges, I felt warm and dry. I wore this under my Gamma Hoody jacket in light showers - a perfect combination. The cords can be drawn in at the waist to block out any wind. There is not the same facility for the hood, however, the hood elastic is already relatively tight which provides a perfect fit and also ensures the hood sits well when it is down. The girls I took all loved this jacket - they said it should be an addition to our school kit!

Got this the start of the winter season and after using it for a few months I am convinced that it is a solid performer compared to competitors. Prior to ownership I use to wear the patagonia ultralight down and mountain hardwear ghost whisperer hoodies. Those were great pieces but i found them lacking in durable zippers that would fail or jam quite easily. Their fabrics would leak feather pretty easily, even under everyday use and much more during aerobic activities. They were also lacking in warmth and of the mentioned cons were reasons I sold or returned them. The arcteryx thorium is a heavier jacket compared to the above but right off the bat it was better suited for my needs, the zippers were more tolerable and the face fabric did not feel like it would tear catching on a branch. The jacket immediately was a winner with its construction. I did not have any feathers leak during my ski season, hiking, our touring sessions. Overall great piece, I will probably check out the cerium if it is close to the same experience I got from the thorium. Fits true to size with amble room for some light layering if needed.

This is my first Arc'teryx jacket, and it certainly won't be the last. This jacket is lightweight and warm, and looks very nice on. I often struggle to get a decent arm length, but this was pretty much perfect. It has a very pleasing fit too, and feels well made. It felt incredibly light when I first picked it up, and I worried how warm it would be. But I needn't have worried, it provides plenty of warmth - and actually does an excellent job at stopping me overheating while keeping me comfortable. I would have liked a third pocket, just to carry additional stuff, but this is nit-picking. I'd definitely recommend the jacket to others.

I've read through a lot of these reviews and I have not experienced any of the issues others have. My only complaint is that they no longer offer the brown version of this jacket, but this has been my go-to jacket for the last three winters. I wash it and dry it with 6 tennis balls and have probably done so a dozen times now--NO ISSUES AT ALL! It fits perfectly, but I'm a thin guy (5'11", 150 lbs, wear a medium).

I don't understand what some of the reviewer's are complaining about. I love this jacket. I bought it to use as a mid-layer under an arcteryx shell. What do I consider makes it a mid-layer? Elastic instead of Velcro cuff cinches. No cinching for the hood. Both were features I specifically looked for. How does it do in the rain? I have no idea because I throw on a gortex shell in that situation. If I ever decide to use it in the rain I'll hose it down (carefully) with a serious marine grade DWR but I'm not seeing a need for it. What I wasn't expecting when I bought the Thorium was how well it does in the wind. Its been 15-20mph winds and temps in the lower 20s for the past few days where I live, and the Thorium has done very well without a shell. This is due to the very fine tightly woven rip-stop fabric I'm sure. I've not seen a fabric like this before. Its like four times more dense than the typical rip-stop squares you see on other jackets. I haven't seen a single feather shed from it either. So see this jacket for what it is and what it isn't. I can't recommend it as a shell, but as a mid-layer its the bomb.
